I'll be going to Bonnaroo this year (anyone else???) and I think I'll be using dry ice to keep my coolers... cool. I've heard filling the bottom of the cooler with dry ice, then a towel, then like water bottles, then a towel, the the rest of your items (burgers, brats, ketchup mostly) would keep everything cool for a while.
Does anyone have any experience with this, or dry ice in general? I guess I'm wondering how much dry ice do you think would last how long in the bottom of a cooler?
Also, the plan is to bring some weed with us, too. Volunteers search your car, and they're usually pretty lax about that stuff. But there is a possibility that drug-sniffing dogs will be there, and I'm not taking any chances. I know dogs are next to impossible to beat, but I'll be damned if I don't get as close as possible.
So far, the plan is to put the weed at the bottom of the cooler, then a towel, then the dry ice, then everything else. My questions: anyone know what extreme cold would do to weed? Anyone know how the cold would effect the smell?
Mods, if that last bit about the drugs is a party foul, please just let me know or edit it out rather than locking the thread.
Thanks guys!
Posted by: Frnksnbns That constitutes a "search." Cops need probable cause or a warrant to do that search. For example, police cannot walk around the streets with drug dogs randomly sniffing people for drugs.
The Supreme Court held in United States v. Place (462 U.S. 696 (1983)) that using a well-trained narcotics dog to sniff out the presence of narcotics does not constitute a search under the Fourth Amendment. Therefore, neither cause nor warrant are needed for tests of that manner. Plus, it seems that from what the OP is saying that in order to be granted entry into this event, you must consent to search of your vehicle, person, and possibly other containers or personal effects. That allows for searches on the level of those deemed unreasonable without a warrant... without a warrant. OP, don't take your ganja.

This is going to end badly...

Dry ice coolers are a great idea, but bring something to dig them out in case. Last time I did this everything got frozen in.
Posted by: Frnksnbns That constitutes a "search." Cops need probable cause or a warrant to do that search. For example, police cannot walk around the streets with drug dogs randomly sniffing people for drugs.
No, police officers can't walk around with their dogs smelling everyone. They need to have a reason to have dogs. Once they do have the dogs, the next step for a search is for the dogs to alert the handler. If that happens, police officers have a right to search a vehicle, if that's all that could be reasonable assumed the dog indicated, or a person, if the dog, say, sat down next to a person when commanded to search.

But I haven't found anything else that blocks smell as well as those do.

Put it in your cooler with coffee beans. The dogs can't sniff through the coffee bean odor. I know... people who need to hide smells in the postal system. Coffee always works.

If you're smart, you'll be fine. I made it through countless Phish shows and many other concerts without any problems from security. You need to know your rights. A dog barking isn't probable cause, and the chance that a cop is going to try to claim that is slim. Just be chill and drive up to the venue sober. And make sure your friends are acting chill and not all drunk or something.
I'm definitely paranoid, and for good reason. But yeah, totally, literally everything you've said is stuff we've discussed. We just want to be absolutely certain when it comes to the smell.

The way they train them is to make their toys smell like drugs, and get them to recognize the smell. When they smell the drugs, they think it's their toy, and want to get to it.
