Now I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions, but I think for the most part, the older the account the older the person is behind that account.
Now an old account, imo, is 2006 or older. Many would argue 04 or bust.
I'd like to get an experiment going if enough members participate
I'm 26. Join date 07
Join Date vs Average Age
2002 - 32
2003 - 23
2004 - 23.5
2005 - 24.8
2006 - 21.5
2007 - 19.2
2008 - 19.4
2009 - 19.2 ( With 49 year old member) (18.2 W/O)
2010 - 17.2
2011 - 14.3
2012 - 19 (Based on 3 members)
Now remember, there are exceptions. This will not be specific to every user.
So don't get butthurt ;)

Because of this thread, every time I see an account as old as Recon 54, I'm just gonna assume that everyone behind that account is just as old as Recon 54 irl.

04 - 25 I think Bungie.net is lucky I joined when I did. I have never really been involved in another online community before or since, so I may have never joined up... I wonder what my life would have been like? Hopefully my time would have been better spent. [Edited on 04.17.2012 7:46 AM PDT]
Posted by: DrBunsenHoneydew Generally, yes there's a correlation between account age and real age. The correlation coefficient is about -1.2, meaning that for every year of account age, the user is about 1.2 years older. Nice idea for a research project, though. /hire
I'm 6.6 :|

Right on, digital high five's! *^5*
Posted by: EAGLES5 2004..... age 23.

Posted by: erac2detsaw2 I'm 23 and I originally joined shortly after Halo 2 released. I only posted on that account for about a month then didn't really log in until I created this account in '08 because of a gamertag change. I'm not sure which one you would use in this case though....
[Edited on 04.17.2012 5:52 AM PDT]
Posted by: arch4ng13 I don't think it has any influence on age.
It doesn't. Joined when I was 15 back in 2004. Going on 23 this year. I mainly run on my alt account created in 2006 now. [Edited on 04.17.2012 5:50 AM PDT]
Posted by: elmicker
Posted by: Telec Or failing that, we can just cut out the top and bottom 2.5%.
my arbitrariometer just exploded. surely you should be doing that kind of t-blam!- by standard deviation? ed: oh i love that filter. never change.
Well, y'see, what I'd do here is take the mean, use a normal distribution to construct a 95% interval around it, and then treat all outliers as anomalous and drop them. But that would mean me all the raw data off OP and then getting out my calculator and some tables. Dropping the top and bottom 2.5% is a (very) rough approximation at that process.
Posted by: elmicker What I'd like to know is how the ages of new users has changed, if at all, over time.
People who make accounts now are older than the people who were making accounts back in the day (coefficient of 1.12), although you've got a 10% pvalue on that so I wouldn't start writing home about it just yet. OP: you're now at a coefficient of 1.04 and a p-score of 0.003.
