Warthog run on 'The Maw' doesn't make sense, from a logical standpoint

Here are a few reasons why it doesn't make sense. 1) The run is too long. From what Halo Nation said, the Pillar of Autumn was 1.17 Kilometers. Yet the warthog run is over 1.8 kilometers. 2) What is the purpose of the place? Why would you need a large scale obstacle course designed for warthogs in a ship? 3) Why is there no roof in certain areas? In certain areas, like I just said, there is no roof. Why is there no roof in a ship? And it couldn't have fallen in, because there is no debris in the ship, or outside the ship as seen in the cutscene. I'm not going to mention the giant jumps and gaps, and the part where you meet Foehammer where there is no side to the ship because those are pretty obvious.

 • I've always wondered what the purpose of that section where Foehammer crashed was.

 • The "obstacle course" is a "Class-7 service corridor," evidently used for ferrying materials around the ship. The reason it's a bit of a mess is that the UNSC has no OSHA compliance. No surprise, really. Actually, the PoA is substantially more OSHA compliant than a certain human ship from a certain 1990's Bungie FPS series.

 • I will say that I found it interesting that you get from the bridge to the engine room on foot awfully fast when you take the length of that Warthog run into account. Oh well. I still love the game.

 • Upon hindsight, I see that The Maw was a predecessor of most H3 and Reach levels, as well as some H2 levels. The explosions and scripting at the end and the room to room combat throughout most of this level is clear evidence of this, linear gameplay long hidden. I was only able to find one area where I could manipulate the AI compared to T&R, SC, AotCR, and Two Betrayals. Besides this one gun fire routine, I was only able to do simple manipulations: shoot Elite, Elite throws grenade, stick Elite and run past him. This got me past the cafeteria and the Covie battle before Engineering without any problems. Tested on Legendary of course. Today. The hog run was pretty simple but not very exciting. • You sir are on a much higher level of thought than myself. I do see your point about the obstacle course. Maybe the covenant were trying to train people on human weaponry.

Now that I think of it, I probably could get 2 Chiefs, 2 Arbiters, and Johnson in a cutscene on The Ark. It would mean re-installing Halo 3 but who said this has to be a public project? • The ultimate Halo mystery: how did Johnson survive Halo? Most people will say the Legendary ending was non-canon but I call bs. I say it's real. Then again, I also say his death by 343 Guilty Spark was also phony... I'm not crazy! Johnson's alive and well right now and he's just itching to greet Chief with that badass salute.

 •
Posted by: nesteggfailure And now, Invasion, you see the harsh reality and cower in its wake... Us nerds have debated why "This cave is not a natural formation" is a piece of dialogue and 'If Flood are smart enough to repair the ship, how are they so susceptible to grenades...' We've dorked/geeked/fanboyed virtually everything. You've got to bring something new, like how Keyes could somehow understand 'The guards talking,' when Chief could only understand Covenant in H-2. (Which has in all likelihood been covered out the yang...)
Give some time, I'll think of something to complain about.

 • I can at least contradict your first point. Yes, the Pillar of Autumn has a length of 1.17 kilometres; but this is a "how the crow flies" length, or the length of the craft in a straight, flat line. Throughout the run you come across a variety of steep climbs and descents as you make your way to meeting Foehammer, and again as proceed to head toward the Longsword fighter. This doesn't include the U-turns you come across as you move between the larger, open spaces of the ship; U-turns which can be partially bypassed if one chooses to go through the series of side tunnels provided. These basically accounts for the extra 630 metres ones has to travel to reach the objectives.
