Definition of MEME : an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture
I don't see what you're getting mad about. It wouldn't be a meme if it stopped spreading.

Oh noes! The Interwebz isn't my secret club anymore! Who cares? It's not like any of you even made those memes and the definition of a meme is that it's widely used. How much more widely used can you get?

Is it because your precious internet jokes that nobody will understand is now entering the mainstream public?
0/10 no its because with this rapid increase there will be a surplus of usage. Back in the day, rage comics were at most ~3 faces. Now I can barely see one on facebook that has less than 8. Tl:dr- memes being mainstream make them suck, just like 90% of mainstream music.
So they're expanding and having more variety in the jokes and pacing. With more people being able to spread their jokes and make people laugh. Interesting.
I'm going to calm myself down and explain this to you. It's not the fact that they're used so often, it's the fact that they're MISUSED so often. Rage comics are supposed to be crude depictions of frustrating scenarios that everyone has experienced and can relate to. Reddit has bastardized them into "a blog about my day featuring every goddamn meme template I can find whether or not they're used correctly". Think about a joke that was the funniest thing in the world to you 5 years ago. Are you even smiling now when you think about it? I'm willing to bet you're not. Now imagine that hundreds of thousands have seen the joke, and then tell it incorrectly to anything that moves. Wouldn't that be annoying as hell? An army of mongoloids spamming an old joke and missing the punchline? Because that's exactly what this is.
For the love of god this
Posted by: WolfmanMaverick I think the bigger problem is them becoming commercialized.
That's it exactly. I think the internet presents a completely new era in human interaction and development. It's some kind of giant floating collection of everything the human mind has to offer: good, bad, and everything in between. Humor, something uniquely and wonderfully human, has a brand new medium that everyone can contribute to (for that reason, we get funny things and really stupid things). The result: memes. Love 'em or hate 'em, they come from a deeply human desire to share experiences and make connections. The internet finally makes that possible on a global scale. It just seems wrong to me to try to profit from it all. That said, there's really no reason why they shouldn't try.
