267 lbs Cop Tasers Handcuffed Girl In The Back.. Now Braindead!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2L85M287gk&feature=player_embedded "The Florida Highway Patrol have cleared 267-pound Trooper Daniel Cole of wrongdoing and have released a disturbing dash cam video that captured him tasing a 100 pound, 20 year old handcuffed girl in the back as she fled. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement determined Trooper Daniel Cole's "use of force" was justified when he tased the woman last September at the FHP Pinellas Park Substation and cleared him of wrongdoing. The fleeing woman, Danielle Maudsley, 20, suffered severe brain damage after hitting her head on the concrete and has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since." Is the cop justified?

 • She ran, and was a repeat offender. If she didn't happen to hit her head on impact, we wouldn't even be talking about this.

 • To be fair, in any situation, it's a much safer bet to taser a person than to tackle a person, especially if the person is 2.5 times heavier than the other.

 •
Posted by: MilitaryTheorist Honestly? Yes. Its sad that the girl was seriously injured, however, and my thoughts are with the family. I have pity for the cop too, he must feel like crap. inb4typicalfloodattitudetowardscops
This
Posted by: tsujen Yes he was, girl shouldn't have run from a cop especially if she was handcuffed.. What an idiot.
And that.

 • Her fault for running in the first place..... and escaping after already being arrested.

 • While i agree with his decision to use the taser gun, you have to wonder why someone at that kind of weight is involved in front line policing, he should be told to either lose wight or lose his job.

 • Why is his weight involved in this? If someone skinnier did this it would be fine? I think it's fine. She fled therefore it is her fault. It is his job to subdue the culprit.

 • 1. Don't run. 2. Tasers only have 50,000 volts and .02 amps, neither of which are lethal, but they are effective. 3. Accept the consequences of your actions.

 • Not the cops fault she fell over and hit her head, dumb -blam!- shouldn't have ran. Don't run, don't get tased. Simple as -blam!-. [Edited on 02.22.2012 1:19 AM PST]

 • So I've researched this a bit. She was responsible for a few hit and runs, and she was on several drugs at the time. My book, she completely deserved it. I'm putting my self in the shoes of someone who's car got hit by her idiotness. My poor innocent car, she deserves worse then what she got for hitting my child.

Cops are only allowed to use tasers if their life is threatened! She was not a threat. Period. This isn't my word, it's also the word of the courts. Tasers are deadly weapons that have killed. You can only use them in self-defense! Cops don't have any ability a regular citizen doesn't have, that includes attempted murder.
It is simple read the description of the video to find out that everything he did was legal. So instead of trying to act like you know the law and your morals matter try to read before you post.
A handcuffed girl is not a threat to his life. Period. He could have called for back up to get her or pick her up at a later time.
Also police tasers can not directly kill it is a fact. The way people die from being tasered is falling down and hurting themselves. Also the whole "they can only taser if they feel their life is threatened thing is complete bull-blam!-." • Unlucky, she chose to run away. She was prevented. If there was a video of him tasing a girl just being argumentative then yeah he is in the wrong. Preventing a criminal running away this is perfectly justified, if you say otherwise you are a problem to our society, you are adding to the issues of criminals winning cases where they are in the wrong. Stop being so -blam!- sympathetic to criminals. Motor functions appear to be fairly undamaged judging by how she sits up. She just looks a bit dazed. Which you can VERY much understand because she definitely hits her head. Source for brain damage? [Edited on 02.21.2012 5:52 PM PST]

 • Yes, the cop did the right thing. She resisted arrest which she shouldn't have. And it's not the cops fault she landed on her head, there were many alternatives in ares that should would've landed on. In this case it was her head and the cop would've been able to do nothing about it. And are people really saying he should've tackled her? Wouldn't that just make the situation worse by making her get a broken bones and maybe have her head smack the ground? [Edited on 02.21.2012 5:16 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: A Wise One The video and courts are quite clear. A description holds no value over what the courts have ruled.
Oh okay, you're going for a ruling of the court with this argument okay. Wait... v
The justice system being broken is a whole other story, lad.
So you think that a broken justice system gave out a sound ruling before, but not now? It's obviously the girl's fault, she was a danger to the community if the cop had let her run and called "backup", and she would be a danger to the cop had he gotten close to her. The only safe option would be to taser her.

 •
Posted by: What Is This1
Posted by: A Wise One The justice system being broken is a whole other story, lad.
Lol you must really value your opinion over the facts. It is obvious that he didn't break any laws. Sure he could have tackled her to the ground, but he thought it would be better to taser her which usually is safer. Now sure you can argue that he might have broke a policy, but that is not the law and the policy does not fit for every situation. Also the girl should not have ran in the first place because anything that happens to her after that really is her fault.
Agree with him ^^^ She shouldnt have run. or gotten herself into that position in the first place.

 •
Posted by: What Is This1
Posted by: hotshot revan II Yea they usually do it with multiple men. Catching was just an option, it's what i would have done. She was handcuffed, smaller, less weight,...the cop is trained, larger,...it should have been easy for him.Probably resistance on the way but she's too weak. Now she ran away twice in her life right?Well a -blam!- up move on her part, but if i would have been that cop i would have taken extra measures so it wouldn't have happened twice. Example:More cops, guarding her and not let her stand there like a free bird... So my opinion on all this: -She started this twice, she's stupid and dumb and doesn't thinks ahead -Taser was unnecesarry and extra measures to prevent a second escape would have been welcome.Cops are trained for this, it was their job to prevent a second escape on someone with that record
Cops usually tackle them to the ground if the person is running. Nobody gives a crap what you would have done since I imagine you are not a cop, but if I am wrong please tell me. Since what he did was legal clearly he is in the right to do what he did and it was the best decision in his mind with all the training he has had.
Nah you're right. While i don't like the decision of some cops like this one, i will have to agree with what you've said.

Ni, he could've tackled her and not given her brain damage... he was within three feet of her back.
He's 267 pounds, his rationale was likely that he would more damage tackling her than tasing her. Which is usually true...
It;s better to break some bones that put her into vegetation.
It was a freak accident usually they just fall and twitch, she fell on her head though. Ive been tazed twice.

 • Apparently this girl already had a record for burglary and was escaping another failed burglary and H&R at the time of the incident. Plus the cop didn't do anything wrong he only shot once she just happened to fall in a particular way. [Edited on 02.21.2012 4:38 PM PST]
