When is the best time to do the civil war quest in Skyrim?
With regards to the main quest...PS No spoilers please!

Whenever you have 12000 gold, because finishing the Civil War unlocks Hjerim, the sexiest house in the game.

Alright I already got the crown, but I decided to not give it to anybody until after the main quest, so I can do the peace treaty and since the majority think I should do the main quest first. But once I beat the main quest, without saying spoilers, joining which side do you believe to be more epic?

Do it after the main quest. You'll then have a shout that is very useful in the civil war quests.

I did the civil war after the main quest. You get to make a peace treaty then.

Ontopic: I myself am waiting till I finish the main quest, that way, when I'm fighting for the empire I can summon a dragon to my aid and crush those stormclock dogs.

Don't bother starting the Imperial quest line if you're on World-Eater's Eyrie. You'll need to ask the Jarl of Whiterun something, but you won't get the option to.

I'd say wait until you are done the mainquest. Also use it to level some of your lower combat skills. The troops are not the stringest and it will be great XP.
