After playing through CE, I remembered the Flood couldn't be hurt using the Sniper Rifle. I tried it, and the only thing I could do was take off limbs and kill Infection Forms, but otherwise it did no damage. Is there a canonical reason for this, or is it just a bug?

On the subject, do you guys think that the rounds from Reach era Sniper Rifle would be able to do anything to the Flood? I mean, obviously this is a different and more explosive bullet seeing as it can kill tanks. I think one hit from that bastard and it'd turn a combat form into a pile of green gore.

Carrier forms = NO sniper and no headshots, best use AR or pistol or grenade or pop small infection forms next them. Combat forms = YES headhots with sniper or pistol etc. Generally their heads we're to the side hanging off their shoulder so you have to adjust your aim for the headshot. Although their bodies still come at you a bit.

I don't know other opinions on the matter but it always annoyed the heck out of me. Especially considering that they can be killed by other projectile weapons AR/SMG/Turret etc. But we are now two back to back games without them so, lessens the blow maybe.

The flood doesn't use vital organs, but uses the body as a whole for its bio mass. A sniper is designed to kill people by hurting their vital organs (heart, brain, etc). Since the flood uses the whole body, the sniper is useless against them, with the exception of the infection form being shot by the sniper.
Posted by: Im SteelAssassn This might be for the later Halo games, when there was a headshot option.
Yep. Although canonically chief could have one-shotted the infection form, this was simply not a design consideration in CE.

What DoctorCoitus said, or maybe just game physics.

For some reason I thought you were talking about the forum "The Flood" on Bungie. lol OT: I don't know.
Posted by: DoctorCoitus I think (and I'm not sure) that it's because a lot of their biomass is just mushy, fleshy tissue that the sniper rounds pass through too quickly to do any real damage. I thought it said that in the Flood novel.
This is what I was going to say. It's stated during The Flood while Chief is going through The Library I believe, so this is exactly right.
