Which one did you find more rewarding?
For me, I'd definitely have to say Oblivion gate closing, Don't get me wrong, but Oblivion gates tend to be more rewarding, and they aren't always straightforward.
Needless to say, fighting a dragon is a very unique experience, and feels every bit as you'd imagine fighting a dragon would be, especially when the ancient dragons start coming.
Something else:
Now I feel like every TES game after Skyrim should have dragons, even though it would conflict canon, unless they can really put something out that outranks dragons and the gates of Oblivion.
Posted by: ajw34307 I always hated going through Oblivion Gates because every time I'd find the same thing, those damn pedestals that somehow manage to fire massive firebolts at you (even with 110% chameleon). Then there would be the long and boring ascent through the tower until you finally got to the top and killed the last few guys and got the stone. With Dragons, you can approach the way you fight them in any way you like. Just the other day I was being chased by a Giant when a Dragon comes swooping down and all-of-a-sudden the Giant starts helping me fight the Dragon, it was a truly epic moment. It's always satisfying to see the corpse slowly burn up as you absorb its soul. To surmise: Dragons are always fun to fight, Oblivion Gates were extremely daunting and my only relief comes from finishing the game so no more pop up.
I agree with this, Oblivion gates were a pain to close, especially at higher levels.

Closing gates felt like a choir. Dragons are simple yet more fun and interesting. The gates were always predictable. The lavish ruins more than make up for it.
-
oblivion gates were a lot harder to close than killing a dragon but they were boring and felt like they slowed the game down
Posted by: Neptunne0100 i dreaded closing those damn gates. i would usually just ignore every enemy and sprint the entire way to the... whatever the hell it was that closed the gate.
When I played it on PC, I eventually got to the point where I said '-blam!- it' and used the console to close them from outside.

You were probably referring to Vivec, Almalexia, or Sotha Sil though. [Edited on 11.28.2011 2:28 PM PST]

The damn oblivion zones all looked the same. Dragons are much more exhilarating because you have the townfolk and such pitching in even if each dragon encounter is pretty similar.

iv'e never played oblivion so i guess dragons feel more rewarding. Instead of dragons or oblivion gates in the next TES, you should fight massive mythical creatures like hydras or giant cyclops or even a pack of griffins.
-
Multi-headed dragons.
-
Dragosaurus' with hyper beams, Daedric gods riding them, in an Oblivion gate.
-
Dragons But battle for Bruma/Imperial city was pretty darn cool
Posted by: Werdy I found Oblivion gates to be obnoxious. I found Dragons much more fun and rewarding to fight, especially at lower levels. -
I would kill a billion dragons before I'd even consider closing an Oblivion gate "fun".
-
Dragon slaying. More epic in my opinion.
