Is Master Chief the last Spartan alive?
During the time span of Halo CE - Halo 3, is Master Chief the last living Spartan? Or are there others?

you guys are forgeting the fact that the books are secondary canon and the games override all. As far as i remember it is said IN GAME that chief is the last one, so unless there are some diologe updates comin out (which will never happen in a game) then that word is final. and you guys are forgeting all the spartans playing in multiplayer there are millions!!!!!! I consider game jackets as much less than canon.

Sure they aren't the pinnacle of literature, but they aren't bad. I'd love to just forget about the Star Wars prequels, at least I and II, but that isn't how it works.

In the games Master Chief is mentioned as "The Last Spartan" and no others are referenced. In the extended universe fiction such as the books/ comics/ etc this is not the case, and there are many other Spartans alive. Personally speaking if you consider how awful some of those books are then I'm content to just pretend they don't exist and roll on with the "Last Spartan" bit. Halo's extended universe can be plain-awful and ultimately superfluous to the main story. [Edited on 10.02.2011 2:57 PM PDT]

Hmm... people have been missing out a few points, but there are still other spartans. As far as we know, Kelly, Linda and Fred are trapped in the shield world with several spartan 3's, grey team is unacounted for, as are the spartens from halo wars, but they may have met up with the rest eventualy somehow. All of gamma company is unacounted for near enough. But, there is also the head hunters that are unacounted fully for, as well as the top honours group from Beta company, we know Noble are the top honors for Alpha, what else would they be? There are also the rehabilitated sparten II's as well. SO over all, there are alot of spartans left for the grinder.

There are around 11 spartan II living if I remember correctly. There is around 307 spartan III alive. [Edited on 09.29.2011 12:40 PM PDT]

There are over 300 Spartans alive. I'd say there are about 20 Spartan IIs alive.
