I understand why people want gun control. When a tragedy on the scale of Newton occurs, it's natural to want to respond.
Gun control seems simple enough. No guns = no gun violence. But that's not how it works.
Criminals don't get their guns legally. Just like Prohibition failed, gun control laws have failed.
Look at Chicago. And D.C. Heavy gun control, and some of the worst crime rates in the country. Whatever crime gun control does manage to stop is overridden by the now defenseless law abiding citizen.

Edited by Dr. Phil: 1/17/2013 1:29:12 AMGun control works well in MA. Also, let's have a test. You have 24 hours to illegally obtain an AR-15.
-
And it has failed in D.C and Chicago. I already own an AR-15.

I already own an AR-15.
We've been through this, the laws in Chicago and D.C. restrict carry, which is not the focus of the current debate. You can't say it failed in D.C. and Chicago when the laws in effect in those two places are different from the proposed discussion. Not to mention, people can easily get around those laws because guns are easily acquired from neighboring areas and brought in.
the laws in Chicago and D.C. restrict carry,
And in cases, restrict ownership. Automatic firearms, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, and are silencers prohibited. http://www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll/Illinois/chicago_il/title8offensesaffectingpublicpeacemorals/chapter8-20weapons?f=templates$fn=default.htm$3.0$vid=amlegal:chicago_il$anc=JD_8-20-170 But yes, for the most part carry is the problem with Illinois.

Edited by Dr. Phil: 1/17/2013 2:47:30 AMSo? Get another one, illegally. As for Chicago and D.C. they obviously are doing it wrong.

But then I have to call this guy, and I have to go some places, and I have to do stuff :(

Gang bangers probably get their guns illegally, but I'd guess your average mentally unstable psychopath doesn't. And idk about Chicago, but I'd guess that D.C. gets their guns from Virginia, where it's really easy.

Where do criminals get their guns? You can't distil them in a shady workshop, and they're rather difficult to smuggle overseas.
-
Steal 'em. Weapon trafficking. Hell, I remember reading about how some guys nabbed a few M-16's from a military transport. And "they're rather difficult to smuggle overseas." Overseas? It's called the Mexican-American Border.
-
You can't steal them when nobody owns them. A couple of people who stole some military weapons would be the exception, not the rule. As for the US/Mexico border, Mexico actually has much stricter gun control (and much less border control) than the US, so guns are actually smuggled from the US to Mexico, rather than the other way around.
-
Wait, so you don't think people should own any firearms, at all? Seriously? Yeah, the poor border control. Not all that uncommon for weapons to be brought in from Asian countries into Mexico, then across the US border. Assuming the Cartels don't take them for themselves.
-
lol, if the 'law abiding citizens' don't have guns (which was the entire point of your initial post), the criminals can't steal those non-existent guns. Could I have a source to verify just how common it is?
-
Then you leave them defenseless. Great job Seggi, to took a problem and turned it into a catastrophe. And I'll have to look for it.

Defenceless against what?

Criminals, genius. More people were killed in 2011 with hammers than with rifles. You really think that if they don't have guns, the deadbeats are just gonna throw their hands up in the air and say "Well shit, guess I gotta give up my life of crime." Look what happened in Britain. Gun ban was passed, and violent crime shot up.
