Marathon Symbol, Redacted

I decided to take a look at the cover for Anniversary, and say that the marathon symbol has been replaced what looks like a horse-shoe. I had a feeling this recurring symbol would finally make a disappearance, but it makes me kinda sad all the same. inb4 wrong forum and go to 343's forums, this has to do with Marathon, which is a Bungie game. EDIT: left out a word [Edited on 08.29.2011 8:47 PM PDT]

What do you think Microsoft got out of Bungie becoming an independent developer, because they certainly didn't let 'em go out of the goodness of their hearts.
Microsoft acquired Bungie. By doing this they got the rights to Halo. When they split in 2007 part of the agreement was that Microsoft retained the rights to Halo and they maintained an undisclosed minority equity interest in Bungie. If I'm wrong in any of this I honestly would like to know. Please tell me.

 • Meh, bungie used so much symbolism in the first place, I doubt 343i would even be on their level, with or without marathon references.

 • It was nice to see that symbol when playing Halo as a Bungie/Marathon fan. It almost felt like an inside joke you had going between the developer and yourself. All in all, I'll miss seeing it, but I really wouldn't have felt it right for them to use the symbol in their artwork. Whether it be legal issues or just by honoring the fact its not theirs to display, I felt it was a right move. [Edited on 08.30.2011 9:02 AM PDT]

 • It's probably due to Bungie putting copyrights on the Marathon IP.

 • I assume it's because Marathon is a Bungie game and 343 doesn't want to use Bungie's symbol. Disappointed none the less.
