The ORIGINAL grifter video is loooooong gone. Comes from 4Chan's /x/ board. Was a troll, many people got involved, it's a troll used to scare the new guys on /x/ and whatnot.

Hey there. So, you've found the Grifter. Let me quickly sum this up in a simple way. It's fake. 1. People have watched the video and lived to tell the tale. That enough is to confirm the myth is indeed fake. This is because it is said in the myth upon watching it you will die in your home in the next 24 hours etc. Think of it as a chainmail. How fake were those myths? 2. It is on CreepyPasta.com. 99.9% of the stuff that is on there is 100% fake. For teh lulz. 3. The whole thing is generic. I've seen many of these types of myths before. And all of them are fake. This has been done many times as Chainmail on suck popular sites as Hotmail, Yahoo and even Youtube. Consider them all fake. It's basically impossible. ~ Love from Shadow EDIT: Also, there are a lot of different videos on the myth. It looks like its trying too hard to be disturbing. I judge not scary.[/quote] 100% agreed. It wasn't scary at all. It is just a poorly shot, moderately well edited short video. It's full of grainy, jerky and blurry 'creepy' images all jumbled together. It looks like a bad trailer from a bad horror film.
