was SGT johnson a spartan?
i noticed based on the armor he was wearing at the end of halo3 it looked like spartan armor
was he a spartan? or odst?

Sgt.Maj. Johnson was apart of the top secret ORION Program. After it was shut down, he and a few key people were basically the only SPARTAN-I's in existence. He apparently has(had) a fake disease called "Boren's Syndrome" from the experiments during ORION. It has affected his DNA pool so much that he is technically immune to flood supercells. He was a Spartan 1. One of the people who partcipated in the ORION project I think.

As I'm sure people have already said, Johnson was part of the Orion project, which later called the Spartan I project. He got augmentations along with a group of other special, hand-picked Marines. These augmentations are what gave Johnson the ability to survive the Flood on Alpha Halo. Because of the way the augmentations messed with his nervous system, the Flood wasn't able to infect him. Although these augmentations required him to take a loooot of drugs to combat the side effects of being modified. But no, Johnson is a Marine, and he doesn't wear Spartan armor ever. The spartan-1 project never existed it was called Orion project but was classed as a complete failure, then when Halsey took the notes she changed the name to Spartan project.

Johnson was a part of the SPARTAN-I project, originally called the ORION project. The Master Chief was a SPARTAN-II, the best of the best. Noble Six was a SPARTAN-III, whose only superior was the Chief himself.

The UNSC has a warehouse full of Sgt Johnson's. One of them died on the first Halo Ring when it exploded so they pulled another off the assembly line for Halo 2. durrrpadurr

Spartan 1s were the UNSC's original attempt at creating biologically enhanced supersoldiers. (I believe Johnson was also the last of them)
