Here's the story.
An american dude went to Canada with his laptop.
Canadian authorities felt it necessary to sift through his laptop upon arrival, and found a loli manga.
He now faces a year in prison.
Wow, really Canada? -facepalm-

I like how they are charging him with child -blam!-. Cartoon children are people too!

I was just about to post something similar.... except with movies. I mean its basically drawn kids.
Oh the horror.
Ok then whats the difference between fapping off to CP and fapping off of drawn CP? There is no difference. If you fap off to one then you are a pedo just the same.
Whats the difference between killing someone in real life and killing someone in Halo? You are a murderer just the same.
Yes, but that's not what the laws are supposed to be for. They're for keeping kids from being harmed.

Where the hell are the morality police to guard me from something I wouldn't read or probably learn exists otherwise and whose only purpose is to get in other people's way?
Posted by: xMaJoR cRaBsx Did you even read the article op? It said that people in the US are also being charged for ordering this stuff and getting it through the mail. Also Loli Manga is pretty bad. I mean its basically drawn kids.
And Halo is basically animated genocide. This is the eschewed moral compass of modern society: Violence good, sex bad.

I know I have. A couple months ago actually. I used to think Canada was cool, but not anymore. Also loli manga =/= child p0rn.
Posted by: Clueless313 Haven't I heard this story before?
One of the comments on that page express my opinion perfectly.
This is the part of the popular argument against fictional depictions of what are generally considered deviant sex acts that I don't get at all. It is imaginary. No real person is being victimized in its creation. As far as I can see, the only substantive purpose in making child -blam!- illegal is that it prevents actual children from being abused in its creation. An artistic depiction of child -blam!-, however, is not doing that, and so should not, as far as I'm concerned, be criminal, no matter how real it appears. I think it's probably a bit disgusting, and I certainly don't find it arousing, but there are a lot of things I don't personally care for that others do, and I'm okay with that. Yeah, a photo-realistic depiction of child -blam!- is skeevy, but that doesn't make it wrong. I'm sure there are plenty of fictionalized depictions of -blam!- in -blam!- (doubtless there's a whole sub-genre devoted to it). I think real -blam!- is reprehensible, and anyone that does it deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law (and the punishment should probably be more severe than it is, in many places), but I don't think it's wrong to have people pretend to be engaging in a -blam!- scene on camera. I personally won't much enjoy watching it, but I'm sure there are people that would, and as long as it stays a fantasy, it doesn't hurt anybody. If someone converts a fantasy about -blam!-, or -blam!-, or anything else along those lines, into real action, then they have done something wrong and should be punished. But indulging in the purely imaginary--no matter how graphic or realistic, and no matter how much the fantasy repels the mainstream--is simply not the same thing, and should not be treated as though it were.
And yet, he would not have been arrested if he tried to carry the bible across the border. Laws are stupid. EDIT: People are probably taking this the wrong way: what I meant is that there are many socially acceptable things that depict horrifying and sickening events (old testament). Not trying to start a flamewar. [Edited on 07.25.2011 8:16 PM PDT]
Posted by: Chaozhound I've never heard of a loli manga before, and after sifting through the story, I'm still not sure what one is.
essentially -blam!- depicting an underage girl this way you don't google search it and feel disgusted or awkward

"If you're traveling to Canada, a country whose customs officials are notorious for playing the role of morality police..." lolwut? I'm Canadian and travel often, and all the customs officials ever do here is x-rays, no patt-downs, no questioning, no going through your stuff, nothing. They obviously just didn't really like the guy, he probably did or said something stupid. EDIT: Metal detector I mean, don't know why I said x-ray :/ [Edited on 07.25.2011 8:05 PM PDT]
