How do you Assassinate a Brute in Reach?
Ive only done it like two times and i have no idea how

Melee them in the back and then hold the melee button.

There's no trick to it. It is just random.

They have to be distracted, no other enemy in the area must know that you are there and you have to be lucky, sometimes they turn around for no reason. The assassination isn't very good, but it's very satisfying knowing that you could do it.

Don't line up with their backs, line up with the back of their head.

I thought you couldn't at first until a friend told me you could and I eventually got it!

you just have to hit them from behind. it doesn't seem to be as easy as assissinating the elites. I have no idea why. Doesn't matter what kind of brute it is, the assissination isn't very entertaining. Still, perorming one on a chieftan is a good feeling

Yeah. Ive only done it twice in firefight and it was from jetpacking and landing onto the brute yet i cant reproduce it

They must be completely unaware of your presence. Have your teammate or marines distract him, come up behind him, and assassinate. EDIT: Beaten. [Edited on 07.17.2011 9:35 AM PDT]

There's only a few brutes in the campaign you can land a assassination/beat down on without any troubles.

If they know you're in the area, it's a crapshoot. Much easier if you're hidden though.

The brutes are very fond of spinning around even if you are crouch walking.. I don't recall ever getting one but I might have gotten one here and there, I usually don't go close to them anyways unless out of ammo because their melee's are quite powerful.

It's actually really freakin' hard... I've also only done it a few times... You just have to get lucky...
