ODST not appreciated for what it is:

Recently, I've heard far too many unfounded complaint about the lack luster of ODST, that it isn't a good Halo title, or doesn't even deserve to sit with the other Halo titles. Hear me out, ODST is much more than the gameplay; other factors have to be taken into consideration. The Character No longer are we playing the role of a galactic hero; this time around, we're more of a human being than ever before. This different tone and sense of survival is fresh and relieving. Quite a few players disagreed with the decision to not implement Master Chief, but think about it: Chief has been exploited for almost all of his potential thus far and a new face was open up another aspect of a, generally speaking, linear in-game universe. It should be seen as a welcome choice. The Story Not to beat the dead horse, ODST is nothing like any other Halo game. You're not on a sole mission to save the galaxy, you're not the turn-to-guy that can't fail. Rather, you're in an relatively small world and you're only choice is to unravel the mystery of the previous few hours. Why was ODST's story valuable and intriguing? Because it brought to the table a more human element. The story brings you back before the Covenant landed on Earth, and explains the social tensions that proceeded the hours to follow. it shouldn't be taken for granted the venture Bungie took into their established anecdote. The Gameplay Putting firefight aside, ODST showed us that we, the players, can have fun without being a walking tank. Honestly, there shouldn't be too many upset with the gameplay, it still handles like Halo. In fact, the planning ahead notion put forth by the series is emphasized here as momentary choices seriously affect how the next arena would play out, much like Halo: CE What this also creates is an underlying understanding to the atmosphere that ODST aimed to create. The Music The somber mood given to ODST is one that is easily recognized by players and fans alike. Once again, keep in mind you're not a Spartan and the general Halo theme is not called for. Referring back to the emotion extracted in Marty's pieces, his work is shy beauty (personally speaking). With a completely new set-list, ODST defined itself from the other Halos with sax-solos and brand new orchestral pieces, traditional in his work. To wind down, Halo 3: ODST is, of course, a different and new new Halo. It deserves as much praise that's given to Halo 2; considering the well executed Character, Story, Gameplay, and Musical score, with a one-year development plan and the small number of hands recognized. ODST is not a game to be complained about. There's no real significant faults with the game, and remember that it's intent was essentially to be a larger Ad-On. • Yeah. Most of you cant even make something as GOOD as Bungie can. Yes, Bungie has made better games, but ODST has a great storyline. I love how they dont have Master Chief in this. Im not hating but, Halo cant be evovled around only Master Chief. Its nice there's another warrior we can trust to fight the Covenant. ODST is a well made game, with the add-on maps to Halo 3, the Firefight and the Campaign.

 • For whatever reason this bothers me. Any true fan to series itself would understand the leap of faith Bungie took, and the creation that resulted. ODST is, in my opinion, more of a Halo title than Reach. It envolved Halo elements, kept very core game play elements while seamlessly introducing new characters.
Posted by: Brutal Subley Just wish people appreciated it more. Hell, even my bro, a devoted Halo fan. Doesn't really class it in the same league as Halo.
As for the lack of multiplayer, I'm glad there was none. I mainly say this because I look at how tiresome it would get. Halo: Reach SWAT is as close as you're going to get. You're movement speed is slow, like an ODST's, and you can't jump as high as any other Halo player, even lower than an ODST. (Don't believe me, try jumping on top of a large UNSE crate in ODST, then Reach. Reach player models can just barely make it while ODST's can make it with general ease) The campaign was indeed short and sweet, and they could have embellished it more, but I'm not really complaining. I suppose it's better to be fully satisfied with what you have, then to ask for more and be disappointed.
Posted by: Brutal Subley The only two problems for ODST in my mind were: a, no multiplayer matchmaking for ODST and b, the should have been more levels to the campaign. Despite these, I still enjoy ODST and hope for a sequel/prequel/spinoff as a future game between the new trilogy of Halo games.
• I must admit it isn't hard to see all the points you stated in the game but I suppose some players aren't as attentive to story and subtle features in the environment.

 • Yea, I really liked the campaign and firefight, but it was just a little different from Halio 3. ODST's seem less trained to me. They cant jump from heights and its just a such confusing campaign. It doesnt STINK, but I think there were better games of Halo. Also, its just a add-on to Halo 3. Its basically supposed to be united with it, should I say. So, big deal its not the best, Halo is so popular, ODST affected none of it.

 • I completely agree! The story is easily my favorite out of all the Halo games. I think it's kind of lame that barely anyone likes this game, I mean most of the hardcore Halo fans I know even love the game.

 • I found the game fun. I like how we can chose which item to discovery in any order. I like the firefight. But the gameplay killed the game for me. We're suppose to be regular Humans. But the gameplay is basically the same for the Spartans. -Stamina acts as your energy shields. -We can run around with machine gun turrets, and plasma turrets. -We can use the gravity hammer. -We can survive falling from great heights. (For example when we jumped out of the HEV pod.) -We can melee a Brute to death.

 •
Posted by: SamTheWeebo It was fun while it lasted. There really wasn't any support for it from bungie after it was released. They could of had a title update with matchmaking, and maybe a little dlc with firefight maps. I never understood why firefight maps didn't include the AR
I don't know, maybe because the AR is garbage? (then again the smg pretty much is except drones)

 • I think a Halo: Reach based ODST game would be even more capturing than the Halo 2 based story we all love, even the designs of the ODST's in Reach was supposed to resemble that of a marine as they wear very similar armor, gone are the black armor clad soldiers of the Halo 2 - 3 era ODST's and in my opinion the Reach era ones look better, with grey combat trousers, a vest of hardened body armor and the iconic ODST helmet. If you've ever read Halo: Contact Harvest, it closely resembles the armor worn by Avery Johnson at the very beginning of that book.

 •
Posted by: SEAL Sniper 9 I agree with this one-hundred percent. The thing that's sad...Not many people will see this, which is a damn shame. People have just forgot about ODST and moved on. It's very saddening, all things considering. This was a phenomenal game, but so, so underrated. I deserves just as much praise as any other great Halo game.
This.

 •
Posted by: OV3L0D3 The character: You're a -blam!- who can't jump. The story: There is none. The gameplay: Is terrible. You are right that it isn't appreciated for what it is. Which is a massive pile of dump.
You never really backed up an of your comments other than saying the game sucks. The only reasonable comment you made was that the player cannot jump, which makes sense as they don't have augmented bodies with power armor.
