What is the CANON explanation to Sgt. Johnson's Survival?

I've always been curious. First Strike mentions his "Boren's Syndrome" saved him from infection, but I heard that the Halo Graphic Novel was monitored by Bungie in it's creation. So what is it? Did his condition save him? Or did he escape heroicly? [Edited on 06.20.2009 5:17 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Blake Packbornne I don't know why, but this seems like a huge cop out to me. It may just be that I'm an RPer, and it just seems like Johnson did something like this. GM: Johnson, your squad is suddenly attacked. Infection forms come out of the walls, and swarm over your marines. Johnson: I blow 'em all to Hell an' escape! GM: ...What? Well, you gotta make an attack roll or someth- Johnson: No I most certainly do not! GM: Wha? Bu- Johnson: Listen here, you pansy-ass son o' -blam!-! When I say I blow 'em all to Hell an' escape, that's exactly what I do! There ain't no chance that I don't blow 'em all to Hell if I say I'm gonna do so! An' there ain't no chance that I don't escape if I say I'm gonna do so! That's all there is to it! Do you get me!? GM: Uh, Yeah? Johnson: Yeah, what!? GM: Yeah, Sir!? Yeah, Johnson's no fun at the gaming table.
Lmao nice. What about the theory that he was a Spartan I though, that could have possibly given him the skill to get away, not just because he had Boren's Syndrome. [Edited on 06.21.2009 7:32 AM PDT]
