What is the CANON explanation to Sgt. Johnson's Survival?

I've always been curious. First Strike mentions his "Boren's Syndrome" saved him from infection, but I heard that the Halo Graphic Novel was monitored by Bungie in it's creation. So what is it? Did his condition save him? Or did he escape heroicly? [Edited on 06.20.2009 5:17 PM PDT]

  • I'm fairly sure that the current canon has him heroically fighting off the flood and escaping without a failed attempt to infect him. Joe Staten mentioned that Johnson's Biological immunity to the flood was something that they would like to change, and the Breaking Quarantine Story does not show him being infected by the flood. Considering how the introduction to the story says that they would like to carve the events of his escape in stone, and Joe Staten saying they'd like to undue his biological immunity, I'm guessing Boren's Syndrome had nothing to do with his escape. They even go further to show that the documents Halsey based her theory on was a fake. So, I'm 95% sure that current canon does not involve Boren's Syndrome in the escape, and it was just his skill.
