Hello all,
So I always pass by the needle rifle in multiplayer. I prefer the DMR.
I've been told that the needle rifle takes more shots to drop shields, but I've been rethinking things since I've gotten pwned by it a time or two lately.
Question: Are there situations or circumstances in which the needle rifle would be a better choice than the DMR? Although a needlesplosion is a lot of fun, it seems like there are too many downsides (shorter zoom, more shots to drop shields, etc.) to take it seriously.
Also: if you prefer the needle rifle to the DMR, can you tell me why? Just wondering if I should be paying more attention to it.
Thanks!

The NR's bodyshots do practically no damage, making it impossible for your opponents to steal your kill with a body shot in FFA.

The only change the Banshee desperately needs is to make the bomb only usable once it's locked-on.

I suppose saying Banshee Bombing is overpowered is considered "dumb" as well.
/sigh. Banshee bomb is powerful, but the banshee itself is fragile. If you can just rally your team to teamshoot the banshee it will be down in seconds.
lol DMR is always the better weapon to use except in Team Classic where the NR is more effective.
I agree, I like the DMR in every situation except for in Classic. Needle Rifle is good in Classic.

Eh..DMR has an advantage at longer ranges.
Posted by: Neo Kaiser 0 I've played a lot of Halo. It's obvious that headshot capable weapons are broken and unbalance the game making all other non-power weapons useless. They remove half the fighting that players should be doing and place beginners on the same level as pros.
lololol You just took the crown for posting the dumbest reply on bungie.net!

The needle rifle is a much better weapon for unscoped mid range firefights, a better suppression weapon, and a better finishing weapon for use in conjunction with another weapon that strips shields(plasma pistol/grenades/sniper/gl). The DMR is the better all around weapon because it strips shields faster.

One thing I really like about the NR is that if a guy is running away from you and his shields are down, right before he runs around a corner or into cover, give him a needle right in the ass and after he is out of your sight, you end up with a needle explosion kill. funny stuff.

Needle rifle is unaffected by bloom. DMR is.
Posted by: EvilTaffyapple Needle Rifle has less bloom, fires faster, and has a less powerful scope. Takes 8 shots to kill. DMR has more bloom, fires slower, and has a better scope. Takes 5 shots to kill. Ultimately, it's down to preference.
The NR is a 7 shot kill... Anyway, in Normal slayer, the DMR is better because you can spam and still kill effectively. In Classic however, you wan't the NR since it's a 6 shot kill and a timed 6 shot is just as fast as a DMR spammed 5 shot and much much more consistent.

Magnum is still broken. But it only has half the magazine size of the DMR and NR. So it only has 3 dice rolls as opposed to 10.
-
Okay, well how do you feel the needle rifle stacks up to the magnum? I like the magnum a whole bunch. Any thoughts?
-
NR has a faster rate of fire than DMR, making it hard for the DMR user to scope in mid/long range situations. DMR is way better at close range and popping out shields though.
-
It has far less bloom than the DMR. I prefer it in most cases for that reason.
-
dmr is better

I think in close to medium combat I would prefrr the needle rifle just due to the faster rate of fire amd the reticule returning to jormal faster than that of the dmr. The needle rifle is always good to have against AR opponents but i prefer the dmr unless I get sticly grenades in my loadout lol
-
It has more or less no bloom in vanilla. That's a good enough reason for me to favor it. I have a slightly higher k/d with it in Invasion too, 7,4 to the DMR's 6.8. [Edited on 06.17.2011 7:47 AM PDT]

I hold the trigger and spam the needle rifle
