I've seriously been toying with the idea for a looooooooooooong time. how would this be accomplished? Ideas? Success or failure? Discuss.

I actually have this topic in the Bungie community boards. take a look at this. Posted by: Viva la Vache What would a Halo RPG be? You are a customizable spartan? You can do two things: fight other Spartans in training exercises or fight invading alien races? Sounds an awful lot like Halo campaign and multiplayer... EDIT: Thought of something else: Level/Ranking System? Challenges? Posted by: Venule I think Halo is an RPG in itself. As the player, you assume the role of your own Spartan.Focus moreso on the vital RPG elements. I could see how the protagonist would start in some training facility with the basics of everything - armor, weapons, moves, skills, etc. - and build up on it. For example, let's say you start in an unnamed training facility on Reach for Spartans. You don't start immediately as a Spartan, but you go through training for a few years (in-game). When your training is over, you receive missions to rescue wounded, marine squads, take out rebel squads, or Covenant patrols. The main storyline will consist of major battles that happened throughout the Halo universe and you will come across many Spartans who have been alive at one point. As you progress through the main storyline, you have a rank that is increased when you complete a certain mission, and you receive payment and more opportunities such as: - New squad members - New locations and cities - New armor - New weapons and modifications - More I believe Armor Abilities could be incorporated as awards for solving difficult puzzles or challenging side-missions, and you are allowed to select one at a time. Sprint is not an armor ability, it can be used from the start. Equipment could be bought from a special shop from an ONI base or Spartan facility or something similar to that, and you would be able to order armor for your Spartan from the in-game makers of the armor pieces. These armor pieces would actually benefit you in some way (more health, speed, etc.) I could think of a lot more, but to be honest, this would have a lot of potential. An open-world Halo with RPG elements would be incredibly successful. FPS's might be the most popular, but RPG's receive a very large amount of players as well, and I think a Halo RPG would bring newcomers to both RPG games and Halo. It is definitely something to think about, and I can only hope that sometime down the road, this will actually be made. Post by: Bol5hevic I think those are amazing ideas venule. basically took words out of my mouth, and away from my pen and paper. There has to be a way to get this done, and make it HUGE. Think about it. open world. contantly updated. All the halo lore could be instilled into the game. wars, battles. Not just human vs covenant, but human vs flood, human vs human(UNSC VS. separatists). Maybe have a mission to help explore new worlds, with new customs and a new story. Halo survives as an FPS only because of the fact that there hasn't been a halo based rpg released yet.

They Have been discussing it on and off for awhile actually. The major problem is what to do.......They wanted to do an RPG with Master Cheif but lets face it not much of an RPG honestly, armor varients would be the same, voice is the same, attitude etc. But they Were saying doing a random Spartan2 0r 3 or even one of the ORION subjects would work better for an RPG. The ORION project is completly unused in Halo games and they tried to make a Spartan 3 but didnt follow anything about it at all. but yeah Do what the did inFallout 3 where you start out as a child and quickly fast forward to where your almost ready to use your Mjilnor armor and you can customize your face, speech , body size and shape, hair etc. and play against the insurrection 4 a bit bfore you fight the Covenent. And you know.....actually follow the storyline and characters from the books.

It was discontinued as Microsoft "decided that its Xbox platform and XBLA really needed to go more in the direction of appealing to a more casual, broader audience." This part is being saved for every time someone says Bungie made Reach for "casuals."

Untitled Halo MMO "Output "Ensemble has been wanting to make an MMO for a long time. That was in production for a long time. The Halo IP was a great IP to launch an MMO with. Microsoft... hasn't had the best track record with those. And we worked on it for a long time--we had staffed up an almost-40 person team. And then there was some reorganization at Microsoft, and the new bosses thought it wasn't the best idea anymore. It had actually been green-lit, and then it got cancelled after that." -Dave Pottinger Between 2005 and 2007, during the development of Halo Wars by Ensemble Studios, another three teams worked on other projects. One of these was the "Untitled Halo MMO", which seems to have been codenamed Titan or Orion project. Overview: While concept art was produced, and Bungie planned to work with Ensemble Studios on the game, the other non-Halo Wars related teams were disbanded to focus on the RTS instead. It was discontinued as Microsoft "decided that its Xbox platform and XBLA really needed to go more in the direction of appealing to a more casual, broader audience." The details of the game remain unknown though the concept art shows various new additions to the franchise such as the Sentients, Runner-class Transport, Aardvark, Diggerz, Grackle, Jaggmaw Sawtail, Rhino, Psion and Rogue. Former Ensemble employees have commented that, while comments comparing released screenshots and concept art comparing it to "WoW in Space" were accurate and that the early builds of the project drew inspiration from World of Warcraft for the basic structure and style, the more advanced builds were radically different before it was discontinued. "Just to give you a couple of examples, we were using a heroic stylised artform. This heroic stylised artform is exactly the artform that you see being used in Star Wars: The Old Republic right now. It's timeless. It doesn't age itself like a game that's built with a strictly realistic artform does. We were developing a cover system. This cover system is in Star Wars: The Old Republic. We had the idea of quests - and like I said, this was between 2004 and 2007, before Warhamer Online had been released - but we had this idea of quests where you could participate and pull them together without having to be on the same team. This would be a public quest that everyone in a particular area could work on. That idea went into Warhammer Online." -Dusty Monk, former Ensemble employee Intended HUD design. A Forerunner City. A close up of a Forerunner structure. An unknown Flood form being analysed by a Forerunner Monitor. Species within the MMO. The Covenant species concept art for the Untitled Halo MMO. [Edited on 06.04.2011 6:16 PM PDT]
