I've always wondered this.If the UNSC can give Spartans energy shields surely they can give their ships shields.
-
Insufficient power generation.
-
spartan IIs didnt get there sheids til late in the war, and that was a hard task for ONI to do, so being that UNSC ships are huge, creating a massive shield to cover entire ships just wasnt able to do at the time

Probably too expensive. Also, the weapons wouldn't match the shielding, it'd basically just delay the inevitable and would be a waste of resources and currency.
-
IMPULSE DRIVES
Posted by: Lord Slade Also lol@Seraphs and space Banshees using Slipspace travel.
Yep, because they totally don't go "Impulse engines." and instead say "Slipspace signatures detected." when the attack waves come in.
-
There is a HUGE difference in giving a Spartan a shield and a goddamn ship a shield.
-
It was hard and expensive enough to give shields to a SPARTAN suit, they didn't have the capability to shield entire vessels.
Posted by: Lord Slade No, the question is why the hell do Sabres have shields in Halo: Reach? If a freaking Cruiser can't have shields, an orbital defense craft shouldn't have them. Especially if the shields operated on the same principle as the Onyx sentinels, and only activated to absorb hits, so they wouldn't be a constant drain of power. Those engines are pretty strong, you know. Also lol@Seraphs and space Banshees using Slipspace travel.
Sabres might have been equipped with up to date tech. Also they are significantly smaller than a Frigate.

cause MJOLNIR is very expensive while Titanium Grade-A is relatively cheap for its uses
-
Energy shields werent developed by the UNSC untill late 2551. And even then, it was only able to be used on small scale. Only MJLONIR armor(thanks to it's fusion plant) and the Sabers were the only known UNSC devices to be able to accomodate the energetic needs of energy shielding. Capital ships would have eventually got the upgrade, but it would take a couple of years more to develop the tech for such big craft.
-
They don't have the technology yet.
-
Posted by: Cmdr DaeFaron Easier to shield a smaller craft then a larger craft. Hence why the MJOLNIR had shields, and the sabers had them. Most likely were trying to develop shielding for their ships, but it'd go from smallest to largest.
Pretty much this. The energy required is proportionate to the size of the ship. Not to mention the power cores of UNSC ships were woefully underpowered as it was.

Mjinor amour held a very large amount of power. I mean VERY large. And Shields were only invented in humanity when they captured a good number of Jackal Energy shields. And with all the space battles, I would not say they had time to install them to ships. Or maybe it was to much space to cover.
