•
Posted by: Mutoid Log When someone made the hexagonal design for the bubble shield, bungie got really excited about it and started putting it everywhere. Lore-wise, the covenant just use hexagonal Beryllium grids as the base of all their constructions. They're incredibly prominent in the flood ship in Floodgate. There's a direct description on page 56 of CH.
not to mention its a very very strong design and a basic honeycomb design was used as the base for hyclon class cruisers.

 • It's too make the aliens seem more alien and irregular in design.

 • I didn't notice until Halo 3 when I saw the under armor when I tea bagged this horrible player in a Slayer match. Soon it is completely noticeable on Reach, all over. It's even visible on the Corvettes of the Covenant. Must be their type of measuring unit.

 • Oh I see what you are talking about, haha... I would say because it gives a futuristic "science fictiony" sense to things. That ring (known in Organic Chemistry as a cyclohexane ring) gives a depth to the structures that seems to make things fit and look like they belong in that time. Or I could be completely off and it could be that it is just how Bungie sets up the game, either way, it's there and to me it seems like it belongs.

 • Yeah, I've noticed that before. As far as I know, it's just a design choice. It does a good job of differentiating covenant tech from others, such as human or forerunner, without being overly obvious about it.
