-Smaller Armour (Recon helmet/Operator shoulders) makes your hitbox smaller.
-Larger Armour makes you a bigger target.
The truth:
Shoot any Spartan in Halo Reach with a Magnum - Their "shield" will "ping" yellow.
That is size of all Spartan's hitboxes. It does not shrink, nor does it grow to accommodate your "I don't have a job and play WoW all day" belly size.
Calm down everyone.

Females have smaller hitboxes. - False. All Spartans use the same exact hitbox due to them having the same height and nearly same diameter. Smaller armor permutations = smaller hitboxes. - Again, false. The permutations don't have hitboxes; they're only cosmetic. No change. Elites have a larger hitbox than Spartans. - True. Unlike Halo 3 where the Elites had the same hitboxes as Spartans, their hitboxes were made specifically seperate to remove problems such as headshot immunity. Because Elites have larger hitboxes, they're easier to kill. - False. Bungie buffed the Elites' shields and armor to balance the different species. [Edited on 04.04.2011 10:14 AM PDT]
Posted by: PainRelief1 Male and Female models share the same hitbox.
Of course. And indeed, perception makes quite a bit of an occurance in Halo: Reach - If I saw a Spartan with the EVA helmet for example, with a blue visor (Or gold) I would see it from a mile away as opposed to the default, or black colour visors due to how gold and blue pops out of the rust/grey/black of the surrounds (Which is why it's so obvious that sky is sky and ground is the ground).
So your saying it doesn't matter, all the hit boxes are the same?
All the Spartan hitboxes are the same - Might not hold true for females against males, but I have a pretty good guess that they use the same hitbox. Elites on the other hand use an entirely different hitbox obviously due to their different dimensions/height. But generally when you need a guide as to what part of a Spartan is a hitbox and what is not, shoot first, take note of the yellow ping, and then you will know exactly how it is. Example: If the hitbox was armour-piece orientated, then the attachment to my Recon helmet would cause me to die a bit more, but, due to the hitbox at a set height, even if it looks like it's a hit-able entity, it's not actually solid, or even part of the hitbox.
Male and Female models share the same hitbox. Like others said, the perception is what makes them think otherwise.

Hitboxes don't matter, I don't need them to kill opponents with my mind.
Posted by: Pocket Syndrome Although the hitboxes do not change, your opponents perception of you does. Its easier to hit the bullseye of a target that is twice as big as another, even if there bullseye is in the same location.
This. This. This.

its all in da mental

chances are, some people might think bigger shoulders = head protected.. wich is probably not the case and the bullets ignore the shoulder peice and pass through it, just like attachement pieces on the helmet.

I'm pretty sure they're all the same size.
