THE NEW THREAD
Thank the Maker, my will has been done!
We are finally getting a Competitive Team Doubles ^^
Favourite quote of the day:
A new competitive Double Team playlist will be created to replace the Doubles Arena.
I can only hope that we will be given normal Slayer as a gametype in this new upcoming playlist (It being in the Competitive section of matchmaking my bets are on "Yes").
Also, I hope that all the weapons that are supposed to be on their respective maps are there, as a proper Slayer game deserves.

THE OLD THREAD
I would really like to play Slayer in Team Doubles. I am tired of Arena Slayer.
One issue is the DMR starts, as every sane person knows, they're overpowered. Whether or not it's bloom issues or the fact that it restrains player movement on respective maps, it is overpowered as a starting weapon. It's fine as a normal weapon however.
The other issue is the weapons on the maps themselves, Arena Slayer is often very stale and boring due to the very limited weaponry it offer the players.
Weapons in Arena Slayer:
- Designated Marksman Rifle
- Needle Rifle
- Magnum
- Plasma Pistol
- Shotgun
- Sniper Rifle
- Rocket Launcher
- Grenade Launcher
- Machine Gun
- Fragment Grenade
- Plasma Grenade
Weapons left out of Arena Slayer:
- Assault Rifle
- Plasma Repeater
- Plasma Rifle
- Concussion Rifle
- Plasma Launcher
- Fuel Rod Gun
- Focus Rifle
- Energy Sword
- Gravity Hammer
- Plasma Cannon
As you can see, there is a lot of weapons left out of Arena Slayer, and many of them is the very weapons that colours Halo gameplay to stand out from the rest of FPS games.
I don't feel like I'm asking too much here, all I want is to be able to play Team Doubles in normal Slayer, the way Halo was intended to be played on maps containing the very weapons they were intended to contain.
Please, give Team Doubles a normal Slayer playlist or add Slayer as an option to the Arena (I know the latter doesn't make much sense but I'll take anything I can get).

Aaand.. BUMP!

I feel like bumping the thread mostly because I'm scared of a Team Doubles without the proper weapons, I need re-assurance.

I wish they would re-skin it as a Covenant Carbine, although I would miss the "needle to the forehead" death animation.
I don't think it needs a reskin at all. Why would it matter what the gun looks like if it works properly? I could understand the argument that it looks too much like the Needler, and maybe making it look like the Carbine would be ok, but the reason the NR is so much better than the DMR is that it kills in 3 body shots regardless of health, is shields are already popped.
Well, it doesn't matter for gameplay reasons, but looks is a big part of the game too, hence The Armory. I do believe that the Designated Marksman Rifle kills in 3 body shots as well, although the Needle Rifle kills in a much more entertaining way.
Posted by: Robbor8oy I know how you feel. The DMR is hardly what I would call an appropriate starting weapon. It falls under the category of 'weapon everyone wants' as such it should spawn on the map where players have to right over it. I miss Assault Rifle spawns. Someone get a DMR, Starts shooting at me. I am a distance away so I have to creep around. Then get close enough that my AR is in its 'sweet spot'. Burn the hell out of the guy, then swap out my magnum for the DMR. Moments like that are completely removed when you start with a DMR. DMR starts also severely removed the use of the much touted 'Halo Sandbox'. Which is very sad to me as that is what Halo has always been about.
I really wanted to comment something that would add to this, but I simply can't. It pretty much embodies everything I wish to express. Thank you and well done <3
Posted by: ggt
Posted by: barnseyblade Why not just play on the multiplayer playlists? Who cares if you don't win all the time. I usually play Team Slayer and the like, usually with friends however a lot of the time on my own with randomers as well, if you have a poor team then you can usually grab quite a few more kills if you play in the right way, for example i've been playing a lot of Countdown for some reason recently and i've been getting my hands on the sword and shotgun, with active camo it has proved to be lethal for me, even without a great team. On the other side if you have a decent team you can get an okay amount of kills (assuming you are a decent player) as well as hopefully winning the game.
^ This. Why can't you just play multi teams? It is pretty much the same thing as team doubles, and it promotes normal slayer.
I would if I could. Well, I can, but I won't. It's not the same thing as Team Doubles, it's similar, but it allows too many people. It's more like Big Teams Battle with 4 teams. The charm and soul of Team Doubles is that it is so intimate, it's you an your friend versus 2 other friends. It is perhaps the gametype that has the highest demand for team work. Every move you make must be near perfect lest you will fail, there is so little room for mistake as you cannot rely on a massive team to correct your mistakes. I just love the tension each battle offers, I even love the feeling of being completely and utterly pissed of when I make a mistake. Not because I made a mistake, but because I get so angry at myself for making it, it proves that I have strong feelings for what I am doing, which reassures me that I am not just wasting my time, but actually doing something I care about. It's hard for me to explain all my feelings for this simple gametype, but I promise you, they are strong, and I want to play it with it's competitiveness pushed to the limit, which would require Slayer. It's common knowledge that Slayer maps often has twice as many different weapons, which of course puts more elements into the equation, which is French for making the game more complicated, which makes it harder, which increases the skill gap. Arena Slayer is too simple, but Multi Teams is too messy and chaotic.
Posted by: d CoolGuy b lets be honest here guy. Stop worring about DMR starts. Competitive halo is a DMR start hence the arena vibe, do you go into halo 3 mlg with an AR, no. The catch phrase for halo 3 was " veto for BR's!" You need to be worring about the jet pack in dubs arena. not the gun the game was built around. And also btw AR starts are so bad. you talk about spamming the DMR. what about holding down your trigger? that fun for you? If it is, go play call of duty. The BR and DMR is what makes competitive halo.
You completely misunderstood me. I don't want to kill people with the Assault Rifle, I like to kill people with the Designated Marksman Rifle. What I want is to start with an Assault Rifle, so that I have an incentive to change weapons now and then. Halo might be the only FPS in the world that revolves around fighting with varied weapons, I think it is a shame to eliminate this unique and beloved feature, which is what Arena Slayer does. Yesterday I played some Community Slayer, a lot of the maps felt strange and was hard to play without a Jetpack, but I did have some fun times. Most of the kills I earned was through grabbing a DMR, sneak around the map, find myself an elevated position with cover, and start picking people off. I loved it. If I had played Arena Slayer I would have been robbed of this feeling, because absolutely EVERYONE would be able to counter me even if they couldn't aim to save their own mother, because they would have an unlimited supply of the weapon. I do not hate the DMR, I do not condemn people using the DMR, I am not a member of the AR fan-club. All I want is an incentive to pick up different weapons as I go and play Halo the way it's always been intended to be played. EDIT: When I do eventually utilize the Assault Rifle I always shoot in 2 shot bursts. That way I can kill people on un-scoped Battle Rifle range with deadly efficiency and even snag kills from grenade explosions(Don't ask me how it's possible, somehow it just is).
Posted by: Arathax Baracen
Posted by: carl crunk dude, stats don't like, you do. I understand you just don't like precision weapons, or at least the DMR, that's fine whatever. But you have to realize it takes much more skill to kill with the DMR vs the AR and you are saying it should be taken out of the Arena, where people go to 'compete'. Your idea just doesn't make sense. The DMR is definitely the best weapon (right up with with NR) for all purpose, however there are plenty of other guns in the Arena playlist that are way more effective at what they are meant to do (i.e. rockets, shotgun, sniper, etc.) that are meant to give an advantage. Things like the Needler aren't in the arena because they are more of a novelty and less tactical to use.
Lmao, lighten up kid. I use the gun better than you and even I can agree with the OP. He's just tired of seeing the same gun all the damn time.
lol your telling me to lighten up? your the one who takes the game so seriously that youve spent countless hours boosting. what are you doing wasting your time in a forum, go cheat some more. also why do you even care, you dont play arena anyway [Edited on 02.15.2011 9:25 AM PST]
Posted by: Bruzzrad I wish they made a playlist with no DMRs or Needle Rifles. That way it can be played like Halo CE.
Multi team is the closest you're ever gunna get to that.
Posted by: carl crunk
Posted by: SilverJoachim24 here is no such thing with the Designated Marksman Rifle except failed Rocket Launcher then a clean DMR headshot.
I disagree with this 100% I get into great DMR duels all the time (although the random luck factor in the broken bloom system is annoying) and enjoy them very much. At the end of the day, DMR's will stay in Arena no matter what, there's no way Bungie will alienate the 'hardcore' players any further by taking out their precision weapons in the arena. if you want AR's go play swordbase in TS and enjoy the armor locking newbs in the yellow lift room.
I would rather spam DMR's than be subject to the Armor Locking in the Yellow Lift Room, I'll give you that. And the hardcore players may keep their DMR infested Arena. All I want is Team Doubles with plain Slayer.
