In modern computer's, no its not a lot. If your running XP, and all your doing is web browsing and music, its more than sufficient. If your on Vista and 7, 2 GB is more appropriate. 4 GB is generous amount for most people though. You would need a 64 bit OS to use it though and if you only have 1 GB, I doubt you are using 64 bit. I have 4GB and I wish i had more, you sir, are hard core.
-
Hell no it's not.

Get yourself one of them 6.12 QBs or Quantum Bytes They are really fast.
-
I was running with 512 MB of the stuff on my laptop, and I used Photoshop CS3 on it. If you're running more than Windows XP, or you want to do any sort of gaming, then you'll want at least 2 GB, and probably 4GB.

Ram memory is the cute little "card" deals that most motherboards have up to 4 slots I believe for the ram memory. You can't not download ram memory from a website. However you can BUY ram memory from certain websites... also I'm assuming OP you have 1 GB of ram? O.o .99 GB sounds funny lol

WASSUP YALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL I'm running a Windows 7 computer on 0.5GB of RAM. 512MB and it runs perfectly. Of course I only process documents and such, but still.

If you're in the market to buy one, 4GB is a good amount to look for. 1GB is not.

five years ago, yes

pretty much anything above 6 or 8 is conspicuous consumption
Posted by: Rocket Turtle How the hell do you have .99 GB of RAM? That seems literally impossible... And no, you'll want AT LEAST 2, 4 is probably a good amount. Anything above 4 is more or less academic.
I had 997 mb of ram in my last comp. It's been retired to a CS:S server.
Posted by: CHRISLY0NZ UK
Posted by: ICEISNICE If you plan on gaming, I would say 4GB is the minimum for solid performance.
I wouldn't say it's the minimum, but it's the amount that makes the most sense. The only time I've ever used more than half my RAM is when running StarCraft II and Crysis on max settings at the same time...
Yeah, I worded that kind of funny. It's not the absolute minimum, but I wouldn't willingly go any lower with a gaming computer. I haven't actually done any real benchmarks on my current computer, so I can't say what the loads are on my CPU, RAM, and GPU, but my RAM might be my bottleneck. I'm not certain at all, it's just a guess. Well, might as well post the above parts, in case anyone's curious. For internet browsing? Probably 2GB. For gaming? 4GB. For media editing? You could probably go up to 8GB.
-
I have 6gb
