Is it me or has this phrase been missed used more then people had made fun of Justin Bieber. People use this phrase as an agrument all the time when it comes to Noble 6, since they can't see him die they keep thinking that he doesn't because hes a spartan. Another association is with Jorge, since we don't actually see him being killed inside the Corvette many assume that he got out alive. But this is where it comes into an argument. Besides the point in Seeing Carter, Kat, & Emile dieing, at the end of lone wolf you see about a dozen other spartans lay dead. So is it me that the phrase it self agrues with it self and should be rephrased or what?

Read Halo ghosts of onyx. You find out that the S2 project is going public to boost morale. They want people to beliive that spartans never die, because if spartans die, it means that even the best of the best get killed by a well thrown sticky.

Unfortunately, Jorge died because he went into a version of Slipspace not known (and therefore no one knows how to escape) and slipspace is HIGHLY radioactive. Normally, a Spartan's armor and the cryo pod would protect people in slipspace, but with that prolonged of exposure...I hate to say it, but Jorge-052 is definitely dead
would the corvette he was protect him from the radiation
no, the corvette wouldn't have done a damn thing for him, sadly. Plus, he was in a Covenant ship that still had plenty of Covenant. Not that I'm saying Jorge couldn't kill all of them, but still, he'd die of old age IF the radiation didn't kill him, and thats one big if.

The spartans themselves know all too well that they can die.
Well, they still have a reputation to uphold. At least they act like they're invincible

People who don't know where it came from just mis-use it sometimes. Just tell them that what it means is that for the Spartan projects (especially SPARTAN II because the III's were never told to the public), if it got out that a Spartan was KIA, then morale of the people would plummet. Therefore, the UNSC makes it sound as if you can never assume a Spartan dies by listing any dead Spartans as MIA, when in actuallity, only 2 are actually missing (with the exception of Kurt)

Like Ret said the only reason they are marked MIA is to not lower moral of the other marines, even when we know they have definatly, 100% died.

"Spartans never go missing in action, they're just dead." Do I win?

Anybody who uses that phrase in a serious argument is a moron and shouldn't be taken seriously. It was a plot used by the military to boost the morale of the civilians, in order to make the SPARTAN project appear invincible. EDIT: Retillias basically said the exact same thing as me. Odd.
