Do odsts have an armor or even a shield system?

Judging from the render of the odsts. IT seems that they are unreasonably bulkier than normal marines. Also, there is no reason by the need a friggin helmet. But it does make sense if they have some primitive shielf system. Mark one or something. It would be cool to see some of the odsts wearing shields. I wonder how are they going to compare with normal marines. Give me your thoughts. [Edited on 4/28/2004 7:00:26 PM]

 • Well, in the book they use HEV's (Human Entry Vehicles) hence the name "Helljumpers." In the book "The Flood" they are described as having Ballistic Armor. Suffice to say, no shields, especialy when Seargent Parker is slashed by a Hunter's spines. In the E3 demo of Halo 2, those marines in the Pelican are IMHO not helljumpers. They are just average marines. Now the helmut I think has a HUD. No shields, although I H2G hope that Halo 2's ODSTs will have some kind of shielding. I mean, isnt it kinda lame that armor THAT cool doesn't have shields?

 • No idea. They didn't seem that bulky to me. With the helmet I don't know. It may be purely for looks, who knows.

 •
Posted by: Thanatos 117 ODST's need extra protection because they're Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. They get shot through the atmoshpere in intense heat and stress. It takes a special kind of crazy to join up.
No, the armor is merely armor. Orbital Drop Shock Troopers drop from special pods. Read thought Halo: The Flood and you'll read where a group of them drop to Halo using such pods.

Why would they burden themselves with the suit if they didn't need it on the pelican nor in battle?
