Didn't you ever play on Assembly in Halo 3?
True, but it is controlled by thousands of Lekgolo worms, just like hunters.
I had always assumed they were vehicles...cool

 • A Mgalekgolo colony makes up a Scarab meaning it's more of an ultra heavy infantry unit than a vehicle. It would help explain the screeching noises. But it is likely a combination of both the worms and the equipment of the Scarab.

 • If you got rammed with a Pelican and weren't immediately obliterated but slowly dying, wouldn't you screech and scream too? That'd hurt like hell...

 • Scarabs are giant hunters, basically. Hunters are made up up thousands of tiny worm thingies. Scarabs are Hunters on a much larger scale.
