Over the past few weeks people have been making threads saying that reach's population is dying b/c halo 3 had whatever at this time... then they are always assaulted by flamers saying that halo 3 runs on a 24 hour system and thats why.
Fact: Halo 3 indeed does run on a 24 hour system NOW
Fact: in the first 2-3 years after its release Halo 3 ran on the same system as reach
Fact: Reach right now has on average 130,000 people on a Saturday
Fact: at this time for halo 3 the population rarely dropped below 300,000 during the day and never ever dropped below 200,000
Fact: unfortunately the people with the threads are correct... reach is failing
Proof: This thread shows the active number of halo 3 players per 24 hours 2 months after release.. idk if you guys remember but halo 3 did not say it had 1,000,000 players online when you were on xbox live... it was in the 300,000 oh and that thread saying reach has more was true at the time however right now only about 600,000 people get on per day... halo 3 was growing right now not receding..
PROOF: halo 3s population would go up and down throughout the day a 24 hour system can only grow 'til day's end when it resets halo 3s would decrease sometimes and grow sometimes
proposition: However... since all i care about is finding a game its okay :) I just was getting annoyed by the people posting about the 24 hour thing

Why don't you quote sources from december or later where H3 is still 1 or 2 on the UU charts and reach has now fallen to 3, and will soon slip further

So since cod is the most popular shooter because it's the meat head "I'M A GAEMER DERP". It's easy and known to most people. Halo isn't as high because people think it's "-blam!-" and it actually takes some skill.

Interesting. I haven't played Reach in a month until today.
Posted by: infernowave179 PROOF: halo 3s population would go up and down throughout the day a 24 hour system can only grow 'til day's end when it res
actually I believe it's hour to hour. at 7pm it is a total each everyone that has been on since 7pm yesterday. at 8pm it switches to how many people have been on since 8pm yesterday. if it in fact worked the way you say, there would be like 1000 people online on a 24 hour counter a midnight. edit: Also, Reach isn't "dying". It's not as popular as every other halo, yes. It has lower numbers that h3, yes. But That doesn't mean it is dying. I mean the game isn't that great ATM, but it has potential to be the best halo yet. Assuming bungie cares about the game, which it seems they do as they have made many changes so far. Just, not ones that we really care about. A title update takes months to design and a few after that to test. H2 and H3 Both had a lot of issues pre patch, and IMO reach is better than h2 pre patch. I played h3 yesterday and boy was it awesome. Yeah h3 is a better game, but give reach until the patch and then say that it sucks. I personally would still be playing h3 but I don't want to be like 20 ranks behind all my friends when the patch comes. And there's like no one on h3 anymore. That is all.
Posted by: Mike Huntt
Posted by: Kanku13 FTW fact: halo 3 had much less comepetition than halo reach did at release.
Halo 3 survived through heaps of massive title releases. Reach survived through none. Black Ops absolutely destroyed Reach, and AC:B just made it worse. Wait 'til 343 releases their game and GoW3 comes out, Reach will have maybe 25,000 max players on. I will continue to play Halo 3 until it is dead. When Halo 3 dies, I won't play the Xbox until 343 releases their game.
none were anywhere near as big as black ops. when halo 3 was most popular, the cod franchise had only just started getting popular, now its at its biggest yet
Posted by: ubercow92 and I love it how people say "this game is failing". how on earth is third most played "failing"? being the most played game is an achievement, not the minimum.
Amen, brother. Some seriously fatalistic personalities on here.

I've never had trouble finding games, and I don't think I ever will for the foreseeable future. These numbers, assuming they are accurate, mean nothing to me. They have no impact on me or you. Why do you all keep bringing up this topic?

FACT: Lots of people don't give a damn about population, and are just having fun playing the game.
Posted by: infernowave179 PROOF: halo 3s population would go up and down throughout the day a 24 hour system can only grow 'til day's end when it resets halo 3s would decrease sometimes and grow sometimes
A 24 hour system keeps track of how many players have been on the last 24 hours as a running amount. It doesn't reset. It can go up and down through the day. It doesn't reset and start at zero. At 5pm it states how many people have been on since 5pm the day before. At 6pm it states how many people have been on since 6pm the day before. It doesn't reset at midnight and start at 0. Making stuff up and calling it fact and proof doesn't prove anything. This guy is a dumb load of -blam!-. Look through old Halo 3 forum posts. Use the search bar and look up various things like Halo 3 population and things like that. The sky was falling 3 years ago too as COD 4 had come out. The population was falling too. There are a lot of posts on this. From posts I have seen it seems like Reach is doing fine.

its because of a little thing called black ops. when halo 3 came out, halo was without question the biggest franchise on the 360. cod4 was the first properly popular cod game, so when halo 3 came out the competition had only just started. cod then brought out W@W and mw2, which increased its popularity. in this time halo released odst and wars, one of which wasnt an fps and the other not a fully fledged halo game. so over the time between halo 3 and reach, cod overtook it as the biggest franchise. this was before reach was released, so it isnt reaches fault. then comes 2010. both reach and BO are released. over the past three years the popularity of one franchise has been declining, while the other has been growing. what did you expect would happen to reaches player count once BO came out? and does that show reach is bad? hell no. everyone says mw2 was bad, and that was absurdly popular. just because reach isnt doing as well as BO doesnt make it worse
-
When reach came out i saw well over a million players online then after a week around 300,000 walked off (probally cause they have lives) and then once black ops came along it dramaticly dropped. what i say isnt solid data is estimating but makes my point just because reach has alot more tougher competition than H3 did also it was a more diffrent approach to halo and the Halo triliogoy fan boys tended not to like it
Posted by: ConanTHEepic Why is FIFA soccer #4? Does anyone even like soccer?
FIFA 10 had awesome online features. No surprise that the new game is #4. You have to remember people outside the US play games too.
Posted by: ConanTHEepic Why is FIFA soccer #4? Does anyone even like soccer?
Soccer, or football as it is called in most places, is the most popular sport in the world. So yeah, quite a lot of people like it. I am not one of them however.

You have to remember that when Halo 3 came out there were no other FPS's worth playing online, aside from Halo 2. These days there are many other decent online games so the numbers are probably never going to be as high as Halo 3 was in its prime. The fact is, even if it is beaten by a couple of other games, it still gets daily numbers that most other games could only ever dream of getting.

Well, i still find games :D

I havent had any problem finding matches so I'm not complaining [Edited on 12.10.2010 10:34 PM PST]

First H3 was not always on a 24 population count, it would change after every game Second There are more people with xbl+gold now than back then Third There was just as much competition in H3s day as for Reach. Fourth H3s population was far greater during the same time period Reach is in now Fifth Reach is still putting up good numbers for a xbl game, however when compared to H3/H2 it is failing Sixth if you ask to cite sources you are a fanboy, the numbers dont lie Seventh If you are a fanboy, just take a step back and look at what halo has become, sure it might be fun for casual players, but until the bungified MLG playlist we literally had no competitive playlists that worked.
