Bungie-343

Is it true that quite a few Bungie employees went to 343 Industries to work on future Halo games?

 • Guess I'll repost this here too:
Posted by: SonicJohn I did some research:
People I know from Bungie who are at 343i:
Frank O'Connor [Frankie] 2003-2008 Full Time Bungie's "Face" between 2003 and 2008 - wrote articles Bungie.net about Halo 2/3, and answered questions about Bungie and Halo to the press. He left Bungie in 2007 to join Certain Affinity. Then returned to Bungie in 2008 as a Playlist Designer. Then in 2010 he was suddenly no longer a part of Bungie. 343i picked him up as a "Designer".

Vic DeLeon ~2004-2010 Full Time Environment Artist at Bungie working since Halo 2 up until Halo Reach. Is an all around cool guy. I've met Vic a couple times and he's a really genuine guy. He's currently a Lead Mission Artist at 343i.

Matthew Burns ~2007-2009 Full Time Producer at Bungie for Halo 3 and ODST. Now Contract Producer at 343i.

Greg Snook ~2004-2007 Full Time Programmer at Bungie. Worked on Halo 2 and Halo 3. Now Lead Animation Programmer at 343i.

Justin Yorke Full Time Server Engineer at Bungie. Now Software Design Engineer at 343i.

Carlos N. Full Time Associate Producer at Bungie. Now Content Coordinator at 343i.

Patrick Gillette 2009-2010 Contractor Contract Animator for Bungie from 2009 until 2010. Now Contract Environment artist at 343i.

Will Christiansen Contractor Contract Animator for Bungie. Became Contract Animator for 343i. Now full-time Animator for 343i.

Donnie Taylor Contractor Contract Artist at Bungie. Now Environment Artist at 343i.

Dan Callan Contractor Tester at Bungie. Now Mission Designer at 343i.

Eric K. Contractor Tester at Bungie. Now tester at 343i.

*All found on LinkedIn

Out of the 13 people listed above, there are 6 contractors listed. That's 7 full-time people from Bungie. Worked on Halo 2? That's 4. How many of that 4 worked directly on the game's content (and not marketing)? That's 2; Vic DeLeon and Greg Snook. There are 70+ people working at 343 Industries. 2 prominent Bungie employees is only 2.85% of the whole company.

Whilst that is a sizable list, bear in mind that a lot of these guys were not at Bungie for very long (and certainly none of them worked on Halo 1) and those who were weren't all in-game content creators. I'd personally say only Vic DeLeon and Greg Snook are the only two guys from Bungie at 343i currently, on that list, that were at Bungie long enough to actually make a sizable impact on the series. In conclusion, no, there aren't "mainly Bungie staff" but there are, at least, a few people that 343i have picked up who have done something at Bungie over the years. Prominent or important? Not as much as you'd think.
[Edited on 08.17.2011 4:24 PM PDT]
