So I, like many players out there, have been wondering how to unlock the "legendary ending", and if there is in fact a legendary ending at all. There are many theories out there on how to unlock it, but this forum focuses on a specific theory, my theory: that there is a certain combination of armor permutations, and possibly emblem and colors as well, that acts as a password to unlock the legendary ending when Lone Wolf is played while connected to XBOX LIVE using said customizations.
Now right now you might be saying to yourself, "Gee, since there's so many players out there, surely all combinations have been tried already." Wrong. The fact that Bungie instituted a credit system for unlocking armor (online) ensured that the whole armory wouldn't be unlocked (online) until at least a couple of weeks after the game's release.
So what's the customization password then? Well here's the juicy bit: I was playing campaign the other day when I realized that there were some inconsistencies regarding- that's right- Noble 6's default armor. Here's some examples.
At the beginning of the mission "Exodus", Noble 6 has crash landed back on Reach. During the cut scene, he/she goes to retrieve his/her magnum from the ground, and takes a couple of steps away from the camera. Then, Noble 6 looks down at his/her left wrist , looks around as if gaining his/her bearings, then proceeds to evacuate citizens from an occupied city.
Why did Noble 6 look at his/her wrist? There's nothing there! At this point I headed to the armory, and found the TACTICAL/UGPS wrist attachment, unlocked at Lt. Colonel. Convenient, yes? Now the cut scene makes a lot more sense, doesn't it? And that's not all. It is stated in the campaign and in the game manual that Noble 6 apparently has "skill as a pilot". Oh look, there's a new helmet in Halo: Reach, the PILOT helmet, unlocked at Commander. As for the rest of the custom armor "password", I think I'll need a little help from the community.
Here's what I have so far, and I'll update as progress is made:
HELMET: PILOT-HAUNTED
-Noble 6 has "skill as a pilot". (Game Manual, Long Night of Solace)
-Helmet would require a camera (uplink) for video feed. (Long Night of Solace, Lone Wolf)
-Noble 6 was used by his superior as "his own private grim reaper"
LEFT SHOULDER: Unknown
-Stealth oriented?
RIGHT SHOULDER: Unknown
-Stealth oriented?
CHEST: UA/COUNTERASSAULT
-Storage for Jorge's dog tags (Exodus)
-Up armored for explosions, falls, and physical trauma (Throughout Campaign)
-Useful for counter-insurgency operations (Mamore, May 10, 2552)
WRIST: TACTICAL/UGPS
-Used after re-entry for navigation purposes. (Exodus)
UTILITY: TACTICAL/TRAUMA KIT
-Used after re-entry for trauma, may be necessary for ultimate survival. (Exodus, Lone Wolf)
VISOR COLOR: BLACK
-"private grim reaper"
-"lone wolf"
-Assassins like Noble 6 often use the color black for stealth and concealment.
KNEE GUARDS: FJ/PARA
-Jump from Pelican (Pillar of Autumn)
-Seen in early press release models of Noble 6.
ARMOR EFFECT: Disregarded
FIREFIGHT VOICE: Disregarded
EMBLEM: Unknown
-Lone Wolf
-Noble 6
-Sabre Teams?
COLORS: Unknown
-"personal grim reaper"
-"lone wolf"
A good place to start when looking for clues in the Halo canon is here.
P.S. I'd like to point out that this forum topic is concerned with finding the armor that would make the most sense for Noble 6 throughout the campaign and in the Halo canon, possibly unlocking a legendary ending. It is not concerned with:
The armor promoted by toy companies:
Posted by: ShadeXC
I don't know how relevant this is, but my McFarlane Noble 6 action figure does not have complete default armor. He has the default helm with the HUL piece, FJ/PARA knees, GPS on the wrist, default chest, no shoulder guards. Also, he has different colors. Primary: Steel and Secondary: Silver.
The armor worn by Master Chief:
Posted by: Ewok Rex
Maybe if you bought all of the Master Chief's armor: gold visor, Mark VI helmet, etc. However, someone probably mentioned this already. Sorry if I'm restating the previously stated.
The armor suggested by... other stuff:

Wait a minute...
Security = Marathon...
In H3, Mountains reflected on visor...
"From the beginning [Marathon] you know the end [Reach]...
I'VE GOT IT!
Wear all security.
Bumping for great justice
Posted by: Wolfrog It is stated in the campaign and in the game manual that Noble 6 apparently has "skill as a pilot".
Something from the game manual is not enough to support your conjecture. Did Bungie even write it?

No legendary ending. But I'll throw you a bone; Survive long enough on Lone Wolf, and you see a special helmet in the ground. [Edited on 06.07.2011 7:27 PM PDT]

Bungie has a love for 7 so maybe you have to get the 7th armor of each section except the ones with less than 7 which are hinted in the campaign?
-
There is no legendary ending. It was cut out of the game. -facedesk-

I'm goin to do a Legendary run through and use as many different "likely" armor combinations possible. but if you do the math, count all the armor slots (helmet, left shoulder, fight shoulder, chest, etc.) and count every option in each slot (like the mk V B helmet and its attachments are all counted indepndently) you will get large numbers for each slot. multiply all those numbers by each other (example: 95x95x95x95x95x95x95). you will get an insane number, but that is how many different combinations you can get. So if there is one set armor code, it would be an insanely hard code to find.

When I play co-op with my bro on New Alexandria, regardless of what armor and attatchments Im wearing, the game only shows me in the base armor on that level. In other words, we only appear to be wearing default shoulders, knees, and wrists, and leg attatchments, but our helmets are the ones we pick, but base level with no attatchments. The chest also goes default. My character had this on while on that level: Helmet: Recon (base) Shoulders: Default Chest: Grenaider Collar (w/o the UA attatchment I selected) Knees: Default Leg: Default Wrist: Default Can anyone explain this?
Posted by: hippE 235 A Bungie employee is probably reading this and thinking, "Damn, why didn't we think of this?".
haha exactly
-
There is no Legendary ending. It was taken out of the game before it released. Have you ever look at all the game files of Halo Reach and observed each one? I think not.
-
I dont think there is one. The onlt thing it could be is what happens to Jun and Halsy, Since 6 is clearly dead.
-
Good theory. I like it. But it just seems not right.
Posted by: NotusedGamertag actually, it did. Cortana talks to Gravemind
Happened after the credits for EVERY difficulty. There is no Legendary ending /thread. [Edited on 06.07.2011 6:42 PM PDT]

actually, it did. Cortana talks to Gravemind
Posted by: In SorteDiaboIi
Posted by: RadiatioIV III yes halo 2 does they all did...
WRONG. Halo 2 did NOT have a Legendary Ending.
Has this been confirmed fake yet?

" Also among other things, s119 pointed out to me that later on in the cutscene, Noble 6 can be seen, back turned, putting Jorge's dog tags in a pouch on the front of his/her chest armor. So that narrows the chest piece down to the three or four variants with storage pouches. Keep looking for clues in cutscenes and background info, we'll figure this out" man most of the chest pieces with things you could put a dog tag into O.o i doubt its just 3 or 4
Posted by: Geordies Soul GUYS!! Massive brainwave. Why do shoulder pads that are identical cost more? I'm not talking about the one with Emile's knife, but the ones that are 75000 or 80000, and 80000 or 100000, depending on whether they are the left one or right one. A Clue? There's no difference between them... EDIT: Oh, and I'm not convinced by the armour effect. If anything, I would have said that Pestilence would be the one to have. The other horsemen are represented through the other members, so.... War - Jorge. The Reach guide talks of him being like a warlord. Can't remember the exact wording. Come on, it's JORGE. The guy's a monster. Famine - Bit of a longshot here (excuse the pun), but Famine is always the one who wears down people but is completely unavoidable. Like a sniper. Like Jun. According to myth, he always disappears when a battle is near, due to being the weakest of them physically. Who disappears with Halsey? Jun. Famine is also the speaker of the group. Who speaks the most according to profiling? Jun. Pestilence - Nobody currently fits this, not well anyway. Pestilence is the outsider, a jack of all trades. He can assist any of the others in their jobs. THAT is the biggest clue for this. Death- Kat was technically dead when she lost her arm, or perhaps Emile with his "Death's Head" visor.
Pestilence - Holland, he is "outside" of the battle that we see, yet he has a role in combat just like everyone else. He also helps everyone with their mission. His name has two "l"s, which somewhat resemble the number eleven, the eleventh card is considered a jack in a deck of playing cards. [Edited on 04.24.2011 10:29 PM PDT]

highly tactical,tactical tac pad lol
Posted by: Wolfrog I'm going to contact an online inheritor to test the theory.
Nice idea. Good luck!

If a player would (somewhat) recreate Noble Six's concept art armor, they would need Mark V(B)Helmet w/ UA Attachment, Commando Left Shoulder, FJ/PARA Right Shoulder, Tactical/LRP Chest Piece, UA/Buckler Wrist Armor, FJ/PARA Knee Guards, Default or Gold Visor, and Silver as Primary color and Steel as Secondary color Halo Wiki

I'm going to contact an online inheritor to test the theory.

Bungie is probably laughing real hard right now. Now I know everyone wants a secret ending but just maybe there isn't one. [Edited on 04.08.2011 12:09 AM PDT]

^ That's actually pretty cool.
