Universal Visual Ornaments - NOT SO UNIVERSAL

Subject: Universal Ornaments should actually be universal (Exotics included) Hello Bungie team, I’m writing this as a long-time Destiny 2 player, Conqueror title holder, and someone who genuinely cares about both gameplay integrity and visual cohesion in Destiny. Right now, there’s a design contradiction that feels increasingly outdated: 👉 Universal Ornaments are not truly universal. The concrete problem I purchased the Apex Draconic universal ornament set for my Titan. As advertised and intended, it creates a cohesive, premium visual identity across the entire armor set. However, I run Stronghold Exotic Gauntlets in my build. Because of the current system: Exotic armor pieces cannot accept universal ornaments I’m forced to use only Stronghold-specific exotic ornaments Or worse, mismatched exotic visuals from other gauntlets Result? ➡️ The entire Apex Draconic set is visually broken ➡️ The fantasy and aesthetic coherence collapse ➡️ A paid cosmetic set becomes partially unusable (See attached comparison screenshots: full set vs. forced exotic mismatch) Why this is a problem (design-wise) From a systems perspective, this makes no sense: Universal Ornaments are paid cosmetic content They are marketed as class-wide, flexible, fashion-focused Exotics already retain their mechanical identity via perks, icons, and UI Visual restriction ≠ balance There is zero gameplay advantage in allowing a universal ornament to visually override an exotic armor piece. This is not a balance issue. This is a hard-coded legacy limitation. The irony You already allow: Exotic weapons to accept multiple ornaments Legendary armor to fully transmog Full shader control across all gear Yet armor exotics remain locked behind an artificial visual wall — in a game where fashion is endgame. Suggested solutions (pick one) Any of these would fix the issue without breaking clarity: Allow universal ornaments on exotics, with: Exotic icon retained in UI Exotic name/perk unchanged Add a “Use Universal Ornament” toggle for exotics Restrict it to PvE only, if PvP readability is a concern Allow universal ornaments only if the player owns the exotic (already true) Why this matters Destiny is not just a looter-shooter — it’s a character identity game. When I buy a full ornament set: I expect visual consistency I expect it to work with my build I expect “universal” to mean universal Right now, exotic armor: Punishes build diversity Punishes cosmetic investment Forces players to choose between performance and fashion And that’s a bad trade-off in a game that thrives on both. Final thought This isn’t a rant — it’s constructive feedback from someone who: Buys ornaments Plays endgame content Understands systems design Wants Destiny to feel as polished as it deserves Please reconsider the restriction on exotic armor visuals. Let universal ornaments actually be universal. Thank you for your time, and for continuing to build a game we still care enough about to write feedback like this. — A Titan main who just wants his Stronghold build to look as good as it plays [spoiler]Moderator edit: This thread has been updated with tags that are more appropriate.
