The power fantasy is neatly long gone in Destiny 2 with its current state and community state.
You can’t go anywhere in the forums without someone lecturing you with the disturbingly common “you need to watch multiple dungeon walkthrough videos and memorize everything before attempting a dungeon for the first time”.
Or “You need to look up better build videos” or “you need to use this extremely specific gear to feel powerful”.
Destiny 2 is now a game that revolves around players constantly needing lectures and education from Streamers and die hards on how “you’re supposed to play the game” according to the streamers and die hards who run and dictate everything now down the very patches and reworks that occur.
I like the menagerie, I like content where players are encouraged to be engaged and learn the content themselves without extremely high stakes involved.
Fortnite has millions of players every month not bc people are that competitive, it’s bc all of the fun casual game modes Fortnite now offers gamers in the creator made communities and LEGO communities and music communities.
If destiny 2 cannot thrive without streamers constantly explaining everything from news updates to video build guides, then destiny has no future. Destiny 2 needs to be able to have gamers learn the content themselves without needing outside help. To make top tier builds without outside help. To enjoy the game and be part of the community without having to subscribe to someone’s twitch.
I distinctly remember that when I was most active, gear wasn’t very complicated. You could use all the new equipment from a season including the seasonal exotic weapon and armor and feel extremely powerful without having to do extensive research and build crafting. It was as easy as just equipping the new stuff. Now we are getting back to the point in time where new weapons are less and less viable and you need extremely specific weapons from trials endgame or a very specific event if you even hope to feel half powerful whenever you try higher difficulty content.
Bungie, you are killing player counts by crafting this ideal streamers paradise game that becomes so convoluted and so high stakes that the avg gamer can’t stay involved and powerful without constant outside help. I enjoy dungeons I can figure out all on my own with friends, but I don’t like dungeons that are so damn hard that they feel like a mini raid.
Or how about raids being the most unpopular activity they’ve ever been in all of destiny’s history?? Raids are too damn long, and hard and complicated for the meager loot they provide which has long been outclassed by newer versions of these weapons. And not being able to find genuinely chill gamers thanks to the crappy restricted lfg system we have now, you’re almost guaranteed to be signing up for a multi hour long toxic argument between bitter and salty gamers who can’t get past a certain encounter.
If destiny 2 wants to stick around for the long run, streamers need to go bye bye. The game needs to be able to sustain itself and generate enough buzz and interest without needing countless streamers to try and muster some small amount of hype from the community to play the content that was clearly designed to be enjoyable by streamers the most.
Bungie and Destiny 2 are more than capable of stepping up and being more involved in their own community rather than leave all the hype generation and all the community building efforts to streamers who are purely profit minded and driven. Streamers genuinely don’t care about the future of any game they play, if they did they wouldn’t be switching games on stream every time their view-count dips 10%

Edited by Joulevette12: 11/30/2025 12:53:51 AMYup that's why it's dying the portal was just the last straw This game was dying way before EOF due to the dismissal of the casual audience at the cost of pleasing the top players giving them challenging content. No one is willing to teach and show you what to do, they just tell you to go watch a video but it still doesn't help because you still don't have hands on experience which still most likely won't get you a team since players value their time in the endgame which is why you see soo many KWTD or experience players only while seeing those single players in a Fireteam asking for help in FTF that never come. Bungie need to ask themselves *How we get new players? *How can we get them to stay ? *How can we get Casuals to play the endgame? *How can we get more players comfortable to play together? These are the main issues they need to address first.

Stop buying then. Money walking away is the only thing that makes Bungie change the game.

Edited by Altoryu: 12/3/2025 8:22:44 PMRemember when explorer mode was a thing during the rite of the nine event that literally -blam!- told you how the mechanics worked so people could practice for the higher difficulties? Yeah, what happened to that -blam!-? They have it for one throwaway event to lead into EoF and never utilise it for anything going forward. Explorer mode is the perfect way to teach newbies how a dungeon works cause not only do you get explanations of mechanics and even nodes telling you where to go, but there is also no darkness zones so no fears of wiping so you have an easier time trying to absorb what you are learning. Bring explorer mode into other dungeons and let people be able to learn as they go rather than having to sit there trying to watch and remember some knob streamers guide. Thinking about it, might be why it's not a thing in EoF cause they are again trying to cater to the streamers by making you have to go watch their -blam!- cause Bungie is too lazy to do it themselves via explorer mode.

2 RepliesThe game is currently catering to the “pro”. Wolds firs events. Speed runs. Tweaking builds and mods for beat score. Leveling that is tied to max difficulty content. This game is not promoting sherpas for newbies. No training runs. Not promoting sharing of build details. Not promoting learning groups. Limited public spaces. Not allowing people time to learn and methods to improve outside of the pressure cooker. This is the problem. Difficulty can be overcome without third party tools if support is both promoted and encouraged. This is a recent management decision so can be reversed. It is also why I was sickened reading it when announced.

1 ReplyTldr: a bunch of stuff that doesn't make a lot of sense, a claim that things should be easier, a complaint that other people aren't playing nice, streamers suck, evidently taking responsibility for their own experience is an unknown concept, the less effort required the better, and they would be happier playing Fortnite. Did I mention that streamers suck?

Edited by Detective Salsa: 11/30/2025 12:38:59 AMSoon as I got to the part where your crying about having to watch a video I just stopped reading. Seriously sick of people wanting to -blam!- waste everyone’s time because they refuse to learn what to do before hand. Not everyone wants to waste 4 hours til you get it. People have jobs, wives, kids, some still also chasing school degrees and can’t wait a billion years for you dense kids to figure it out. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. STFU

They had a start of a good idea with explore mode dungeons back in Rite of the Nine, which they obviously abandoned despite the positive feedback. The very basic level of the activity should be accessible to all kinds of players.
The power fantasy is neatly long gone in Destiny 2 with its current state and community state.
Literally the composite of reality. The game has never let you be as strong as it does now. There’s never been as many things as strong as they are now. By all means go play D1 and see how much less powerful you feel in a game with far less outrageously strong options there are.

23 RepliesDon't blame other players for telling you you need to look up how to do it, blame Bungie for designing their content so that you need to look up how to do it.
-
2 RepliesThis is true. "Commoners" like us just want a game we can jump on enjoy and leave. Not to say that there shouldn't be higher end content, but it's like the whole game is for elitists. No story line, no jump on and enjoy with randoms or friends, its all just have this ridiculous, over complicated build or dont play. Remember black armory? When you released that over top mechnic to unlock the final armory? It's now like that but with this over complicated gear system and ability system. Brilliance on the basics... Bungie, you've lost your way.

People have always been sheep and done exactly what charismatic people say. Just look at how people talk about weapons. My biggest pet peeve is when someone asks me “What is THE god roll for this gun?”. I always follow with “well, what do you want it to do?”. There is no “god roll” on weapons. There are natural pairings, effective combos, and classically good perks, but typically there are at least 2 or 3 effective things you can do with each gun at a minimum. The current system does hurt any build diversity heavily though. When we can’t use 90% of the guns in the game for certain activities or modifiers, people will naturally try and seek out answers someone else already figured out. So yea we see mint retrograde a lot bungie. Any guesses as to why bungie? Oh yea, because it’s the easiest to use out of less than 10 kinetic slot special weapons in the new system. Champion stunning capabilities only further decrease the options you can use.

Edited by Raijinmeister: 11/29/2025 5:05:51 PMBlame the devs. They are the ones doing the game. Right now, D2 doesn't know if it wants to be WoW, Dark Souls, or Warframe. And it's failing miserably at being any of those 3 games. And above all else, it's failing in being Destiny.
-
Honestly, you have a point but the thing is, new players dont stick around because they dont feel powerful, new player will not stick around because the onboarding is -blam!-. If I teach multiple new lights and they have to ask me every time how to do a single specific thing, then I am sorry, the onboarding is just that bad. No -blam!- we dont get a lot of new lights, if they dont have someone holding their hand, its so convoluted, you would cry

Wow, if you want to play a battle royal game go ahead... this isn't it.

1 ReplyYou know why you feel like no one wants to help? We are at the end of a season. So most people who have done it all already. Have already taught allot of people on how to do it. Next to the fact that the ones (who are willing to help) are most likely playing different games by now. But that has been always the case with every season. If we are nearing the end. Most people just simply already have done it so many times. You can not blame someone for helping those 20 people before you and expect everyone to help you every single time!! Its not a job!!! The best way to beat this issue is to have..... friends🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 So you dont have to rely on people you dont know. Because you want to get stuff done. But if it start to feel like a drag for others, they will most likely value their own time more and drop you like a brick. And as i explained before, that doesnt have to do with not willing to teach, that has to do with having already put numerous of hours into this content. So here you have the other side of the pisture... we are all egocentric in a sense. But thats okay. As long as we understand each others motives, the community is not that bad at all. But we usually only look at it from our own perspective without looking at the other ones perspective

2 Replies“You can’t go anywhere is this forums without someone lecturing you…” That’s the problem with why you’re doing, this forums is not the place you want to be if you enjoy the game. It’s been full of kids who each try to outdo each other with negativity and lies to attack the game for almost a decade now. If you want real people to talk about the game with, literally go anywhere else.

12 RepliesMain problem - light level today isn't power level, it's debuff and difficulty level. More light you have - tougher enemies you get, more stupid modifiers, more champions, more damage done to you... If my light is 350, why am I must do operation on "master" to just get "B"? Especially in situation when your light level cuts below activity level? I don't care about light level, I just want chill like it was in Destiny 1! Why am I forced to go into more difficult activities, just to complete daily "challenge" that will give me 10 of bright dust"?
-
3 RepliesI hear you and I agree to some extent I hate to have to watch tutos for a Dungeon or mission… and I hate that some content is getting way too sweaty. Now when it comes to build crafting, this is the core mechanics of the game. You do need to invest on your build to feel powerful, by design. The same way you need to buy street and house in Monopoly to make money. Thats what makes D2 unique.
-
Bungie did this to themselves. In the beginning when we asked them to start putting actual numbers to gear descriptions they said they wanted the community to discover it. ie: We don't wana and y'all can figure it out yourselves. We bought that hook line and sinker. Now here we are where content creators and the game are symbiotic in nature. The game(bungie) needs them(CCs) to tell others how the game works and they(CCs) need the game(bungie) to keep their addiction going through monetary means. Instead of just adjusting how they worded things in game to make it more understandable from the get go as well as ways to introduce game mechanics before they actually get to end game. Yes they have been trying in ways to make it more understandable in game but it is always too little too late with Bungo.

I met some guys that I've been running with and they will make some lighthearted jokes about my boss damage at the end of a raid and that's about it. They always invite me back 🤷🏻 lol they're pretty cool about it.

this was the most enjoyable read I've had in this forum, by a LARGE margin I'd kiss u on the mouth if I could.

Edited by Dooodley: 11/28/2025 8:11:47 AMWhile it's never been great I have to say that it has gotten worse- a lot worse. Hell, you cant even get the most out of the portal without fiddling around. It's constantly on my mind that people who don't have a Destiny interest that stretches outside the game and organically pick up hints and tips are probably playing the portal in default mode - and by doing so are never reaching the scores required to progress. As for end-game content - and me being a returning player - there's just too much BS. I'm watching videos and it's just go here, do this, stand on this plate, shoot this thing three times etc etc. Now I'm expected to remember all this or find a group that is willing to put up with it - which by the look of FTF is nearly impossible unless you join a clan. And I get it, I should have played that stuff years ago and known it by now but I wasnt here back then. And clans? Have you seen the recruitment forum? Every somewhat serious post make it seem like you have to commit to it like fulltime job, be in discord at all times, hand over your SSN or you wont get a spot when it's time to raid. The D1 raids were much more manageable to a new player - but for some reason they had to complicate those too. That said, I am not blaming the streamers. I think they're actually suffering from raids and whatnot not being accessible to more players. Why watch them raid if you know from start that you're probably not going to do it yourself? Also, I dont know what they have in store for the portal but that -blam!- needs to change. If the new motto if "we're beinging back FUN" then let us have fun. Constantly having to be concerned about timers and revives against a delta is not fun - or ideal for daily activities. That stuff was interesting in old GM's but few want to play a GM every time they play. Even the original portal system was way better than what we have now. But in old Bungie fashion they couldnt just increase the rewards, they had to put time and resrouces into a completely new system that made everything worse instead - and IMO isnt even working as intended.
-
Couldn't agree more. This is the biggest reason why the game cannot attract and retain new players. There's no tutorial (what Bungie calls a tutorial is just a bad joke), and everything in the game requires research on 3rd party sites like Youtube and the Destiny Data Compendium, because Bungie seems to be deathly allergic to giving the players even the slightest bit of information about how anything works in game.

Edited by BoomboxCollosuss: 11/28/2025 4:31:13 AMAgreed (mostly). WHy can't there be even tiers of difficulty for dungeons and raids. At least the average player could try them without the constant perfectionism of the biggest chair potatoes in the game? Most (almost all) of the in game LFG is also "micless", which means nobody in Destiny LFG is doing sherpa runs either. It's the same dwindling crowd doin the same stuff while the rest just become discouraged or apathetic because the time and grief they have to endure just to even try it. The REAL fix would be making REAL options in the LFG tab besides these redundant "My LIttle Pony" comments and like 24 of the same meme. WTF is that anyways? Seriously.
