Tapir error. CIS ban has essentially been confirmed by Bungie

As a long-time Destiny 2 player, I, along with many others, demand answers. Just over a week ago, players from the CIS region, specifically Belarus and Russia (though I’m unsure about other countries, need confirmation), were suddenly unable to access Destiny 2 at all. The persistent TAPIR error code would not let us pass the title screen, leaving many of us puzzled. Naturally, players took to the forums to report the issue, and the common reply from Bungie was that they were "investigating the issue." No official statement was made on social media, no mention was TWID updates, and there were no notes in any patch releases. Then, today (September 24th), after a week of silence, Bungie confirmed the restriction was intentional, stating in the forum replies: "Destiny services are not available where access is restricted by law." I find myself wondering: What law are they referring to? What kind of a universal law makes Destiny 2 servers inaccessible across countries like Belarus, Russia, and potentially others? And why did it happen so suddenly, without warning or clear communication? The lack of transparency here is bewildering. If this decision was planned all along, why not just tell us upfront? This situation seems to mirror the actions taken back in March 2022, when Bungie suspended the sale of D2 products (DLCs, Silver, etc.) in Russia. the reasoning actually made sense: if they continued the sales, they'd have to pay taxes to the Russian government, contributing indirectly to the still ongoing hearbreaking conflict. They provided us with a clear statement. But now, it's different. Instead of a simple suspension, an entire player base seems to have been wiped out of the game, with no explanation. No heads-up. Just an abrupt and sweeping ban. As a Destiny 2 veteran, I’ve spent years creating memories and investing time into this game. Even met a few absolutely wonderful people. To have that taken away without proper communication feels like a slap in the face. I know the situation is complicated, but transparency and honesty go a long way. If Bungie planned this, they should have been clear about it from the start. We deserve to know what's going on. Maybe this is actually it and this is my time to move on. That was a wild ride for sure. edit: Destiny 1 is still available, by the way. Makes me think the "law restriction" reasoning is a pathetic excuse. SHAME.

  • I could see laws being something relating to LGBTQ content. Which if that were to be the case, it’s Bungie standing on a hill by themselves while their army(players and the game) suffers the mass casualties. If the “law” in question were to be on LGBTQ content, simple fix would be to remove the content. Shaders, emblems, etc or replace them with something else. As for Russia, I could see the Ukrainian emblem posing an issue as well.

    • I know the law that they are referring to. It is a proverb «Россия для грустных» which translates as "Russia is for sad ones". Sad tho, just bought Legacy edition with my friends...

    • If you're playing on Steam, submit a refund request for whichever Year of the Prophecy edition you bought, pick "multiplayer not working" and put "Cannot access the content I paid for and play the game anymore due to Bungie restricting access in my entire region and the resulting Tapir error codes". They issued a full refund for me in a matter of hours. If for some reason they deny your request, ask to escalate and keep trying. It's clear that asking questions and trying to do this the nice way is met with ignorance and automated non-answers. So start speaking the language they do understand - money. Vote with your wallets:) Plenty of other great games out there that don't treat you like your money is good enough but you aren't.

      • Steam is issuing refunds without any questions - it's time to abandon the sinking ship.
