After Heresy - Should they have done an “Age of Triumph” update and then moved on to Destiny 3?
Maybe a small DLC to add the third darkness sub class to finish the trio.

Yes and No. A lot of players like me really want to see a complete game between both Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 especially since Destiny 1 holds a lot of relevance to Destiny 2 and they just don’t work like direct sequels since the narrative between the two are continuous. Compare this to other games where they would isolate the in game narratives to make a full story, while still allowing growth into the next game. To any end, players would like to see Bungie go back and remaster old content and bring it up to par with modern content in gameplay and structure minimum, while upgrading the systems and gameplay to allow this old content to grow and continue with new content, as opposed to the current “gimmick” system we currently have. I mean, the Caldera has Matterspark and these abilities, which is all fine and dandy but then we’re getting something completely different for the next expansion, with no sense of continuity within the game. It’s all a mess and Bungie should at least try to design the destinations with the idea that each destination should provide something unique. Like if we get Matterspark and these Dark Matter Abilities here, why not add a Stasis variant to Europa, where you get not only the bonus Stasis Ability regeneration, but you also have Stasis Resonance where you get these stasis abilities specific to Europa. Or what if in the European Dead Zone, you get “Dead Light Abilities” based around the Shard of the Traveler. The cosmodrome, you get Siva abilities, or better yet, you get abilities reminiscent of the Iron Lords. So on, so forth. I’m just rambling on at this point, but I think Destiny could honestly be better than its current iteration without focusing on highly requested subjects like Clan Housing and what not. Just focus on the baseline aspects of the game.

What would that look like? As others suggested, The Guardian is flung forward in time by the nine. New time period, New state of the solar system, New Lore and Mysteries, Giving many of the narrative threads established by past seasons time to build up. Like the return of Ahamkara, the New Dread Faction, Eliksni and Fallen of Riis, New Vanguard, etc. We could have a far more extensive campaign that does a better job getting people excited for the new saga. Because “more of the same” (which was the overwhelming criticism about the aesthetic and assets of EOF) does not get people excited. You want the first impression of the new saga to be as good as possible. And what I am seeing is that the first impression of the new saga is that it feels too safe with an uninteresting villain i.e. the conductor. Now tbf, we are still dealing with the legacy of Pete Parsons. So it will be sometime before we see some real change in direction.

15 RepliesWhy is everyone so obsessed with Destiny 3 when it’s going to be another flop anyways? Same garbage upper leadership, same mistakes, same garbage game with a 3 slapped on it.
-
Should have ended years prior to TFS. TFS should have been the end of D3. But hey, semantics, right?
-
Our Guardian should have sacrificed themselves to kill the witness And the damage Megamind done to the Traveler changed the rules of the light forever Start Destiny 3 with a New Light, brand new classes, brand new powers, brand new weapon archtypes, brand new galaxy With nothing but a monument and legends and myths of our current guardians accomplishments to call back to D1 and D2

With the current shape of the game, lot more players would be on 'completed' Destiny 2 than the shell called Destiny3. It's a completely new story with so many changes to base mechanics it's almost like splicing together 2 different games.
-
They should have started a D3 with Edge Of Fate
-
1 ReplyEven if D3 was announced. Do you all trust Bungo to do the right thing?
-
Yes the nine store should have been destiny 3

I stopped playing soon after TFS, so that was the end of D2 for me. I would definitely be interested in D3 (if it ever happens), but I would want to see different stuff (locations, time period, enemies, etc). I wouldn’t want it to be a direct continuation of D1 and D2, with everything coming back again. From Bungie’s perspective, I guess it makes sense to keep D2 ticking along and bringing in money while Marathon is being developed.

I think D3 would've been a perfect opportunity to "sunset" the old gen consoles.... No hatred to the old console players, I was on PS4 for the last 10 yrs, but I knew darn well it wasnt gonna survive once EoF was released...it was either buy a PS5 or quit playing Destiny. It wouldnt be right for D2 to have an update that excludes PS4 players... but there's nothing wrong with offering a NEW game thats only available on the newest consoles.
-
Ultimately, yes, I think so. With how Marathon has been received it would've been much more sensible to let D2 finish, start work on D3 and then release it a few years down the line with an up-to-date gaming engine, better graphics, zones with better freedom, more to do and fewer barriers to name a few things. Instead, Bungie are fighting on 2 fronts out of shear panic and DR is saving their blushes by the thinest of margins. Imho, they should consign Marathon to the bin, leave DR as it is, finish D2 with Renegades, and take a hiatus while developing D3. Release it in Sept 30 or 31 and see wot happens. Of course its not certain that D3 isnt in the works already, but until we know, that's wot Bungie should do.

Yes.. I think it was implied in the title.. We were ready for that and the expectation was set.

2 RepliesIt was the perfect, natural break to ANNOUNCE the plan to start work on D3…even if assisted by several different creative studios, with Sony / Revamped BHQ at the helm. ITMT: open the D2 Loot floodgates…make everything available for all to enjoy…let the loyal players, and New Lights and Returning Guardians, have some fun. Also, get as much feedback from all types of player about what they’d like to see in D3… For these are your Customers…so, look after them and treat them with RESPECT! Build it properly and they will arrive. 👈 That is all. Ease Springs! 🖖

At Final Shape, full stop. Take a year or 2 to update the game engine. Or go full D3.
-
Kind of feels like it did. That game is hardly recognizable today.
-
-
In all honesty, probably yes. At least until D3 or project Payback could have been worked out. Basically if a DLC isn't on the same level or better as forsaken, Taken king, Witch queen or Final shape than I'm not keen.
-
Would have been the smart fiscal move.
-
Would have been crazy if our character met their end. Iron man style.
-
Probably would have been wise…
-
Looking at this year …yes ! It would have been a perfect finish then start fresh in the near future . But no greed took over to squeeze every last drop out of d2 .

11 RepliesThe game should’ve ended after Final Shape. Keep the servers open. Maintain the game. Let Sony use a different studio to make Destiny 3. Then Bungie (because they’re so dead set on it) could focus on making Marathon. That’s what should’ve happened.
-
Yep. During / right after final shape I might have thought otherwise, but seeing the state of the game right now it's clear that continuing to modify and add onto D2 is causing more issues and bugs than Bungie's current workforce can support (for whatever reason).

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes. I will say that a third darkness subclass so late would have been pointless though. It should have been introduced ages ago. But a D3 would have been the right path forward. Destiny 2 was never build to last. It was never the intention for D2 to be a full live service game that could potentially be updated indefinitely. The game's internal design didn't support this and I'm banking money on the idea that this was the reason why Bungie had to cut away a huge portion of their game. The original contract between Activision and Bungie was for 3 or potentially 4 games in 10 years. A little bit ambitious but potentially it could work. But a in general a D2 with a clear beginning and end would have been best. I personally always felt that D2 should have ended with Shadowkeep with the return of The Witness. It also would have made sense considering Shadowkeep is a somewhat smaller expansion like Rise of Iron. Both of which came after a previously bigger and more impactful expansion The Taken King/Forsaken. A Destiny 3 would have started with Beyond Light. Introducing players to darkness based powers to players with a new one being introduced each expansion. Not introducing a new subclass in Witch Queen was the wrong move. ultimately the game would have ended with Heresey and Bungie could have taken a break and focus on a real full MMO live service style Destiny. Call it Destiny: Frontiers and we'd be in business. But ultimately that didn't happen but even still I'd felt that a D3 was the best route after Heresy and even now I still think that's the case.
