Dear Bungie Team,
I’m writing this as a long-time fan who truly cares about Destiny 2 and wants to see it thrive.
The new power system is not just frustrating—it’s demoralizing. Grinding 450 power levels every six months, only to be permanently underpowered in almost every activity, makes progression feel meaningless.
You’ve added a new armor/weapon tier system (T1 to T5), but then locked the highest tiers (T4 and T5) behind content that forces us to play at a -40 to -50 power disadvantage. This creates a punishing cycle:
We need better gear to survive high-difficulty activities,
but we can’t get that gear without suffering through those activities first.
That’s not challenge—that’s a punishment loop.
What's worse: even “normal” difficulty starts at -10 power, so no matter how hard we grind, we never feel powerful. The entire identity of Destiny as a power fantasy is being undermined.
Please consider:
Removing power scaling from standard/normal content.
Letting players feel the benefits of their grind.
Making progression meaningful again—not a reset treadmill.
Allowing us to gradually access T4 and T5 without forced penalties.
We love this game, but this system doesn’t feel respectful of our time or effort. Destiny should reward dedication, not suppress it.
Sincerely,
A Guardian who wants to feel powerful again.

This is completely true. No reason to grind past 200 since you are locked at 50 under. What they should do is add more world tiers every 50 light levels past 200 that you can access whenever you want. Tier 4 and 5 gear can stay at the highest tiers. When you level past a tier lock it at -10 or -15 so you can't 1 shot everything but you can at least feel powerful. Mythic difficulty is going to kill the casual experience and therefor the lifeblood of the game

5 RepliesHonest question. All of your characters are at 10 power. So are you not playing in anticipation of the grind or is this an alt account you’re posting on?
-
2 RepliesBrilliantly said… there are forum members who deny this negative power modifier exists … it’s comical at this point
-
Literally nailed the point right on the head. I've been grinding pretty heavily since the expansion released, and despite being almost 360, I do not feel more powerful at all. The previous system was too easy, but you at least felt a little more powerful, now its just a number to unlock higher difficulties you have to play to go higher but never feel more powerful.

1 ReplyIt would be great if the power (light level) just went away. If you want to grind for high tier weapons in hard content then you should be able to do so at any point. It should be based on skill, not your grind in power level.

5 RepliesStop crying and play the game grind just like anyone else yall gotta stop asking for handouts

10 RepliesThey seem to think power fantasy means running meta choices so you can get your grenade three times in a damage phase. What it should mean is FEELING POWERFUL.
-
horrible. power needs to go, or allow us to outlevel the enemies. also if power stays this width then give us +30 drops for doing master level content, i barely got +5 higher today.

8 RepliesAlso Idk why the raid is -blam!- 20 POWER UNDER. Like what?? It’s a NORMAL MODE raid and the power disadvantage is almost as high as old gms

3 RepliesEdited by ForeverLaxx: 7/25/2025 10:31:12 PMWhat slays me is that we grind to increase our Power so that we can go into activities where our relative Power is reduced further and further. Gain Power to Get Weaker seems like a strange system to build everything around if you ask me.

Edited by Northern: 7/25/2025 8:36:04 AMDaily peak concurrent players has dropped by 50% on Steam in just over a week. >.<

yep, and they wonder why playercounts are dropping RIP bungie

OP: Bump+++ 👈 That is all. Ease Springs! 👻

Well said, all of it!

2 RepliesPower level should have been removed years ago already.

8 RepliesAgreed, I've played for years and just asked for a refund. This entire expansion seems aimed at one thing, player engagement hours key permance indicator (KPI). I've played for years and this expansion is a step too far in engagement hours KPI. It requires you to grind for 100s hours to be able to access tier 5 gear, then they reset you back down every 6 months, so you have to grind again to gain access? You have to use latest gear every season for extra damage and resistance? I have a family, I have a life outside D2. Don't farm me for time every 6 months for me to be able to START the gear grind I want with the tier 5s... then not let me use them next season... it's a joke. Greed gone too far. The same behaviour is present in exotic catalysts, that was too much for me already last season, light grind is an insane choice from every angle... except... if your main aim is to farm players for their time. If I ask 5 whys to get to root cause I'd need to ask Bungie, but hypothetically it could be the below... Players exploited purely for their time at expense of enjoyment... why.?.. bad game design forces players to spend 100s of hours with no reward... why?.... engagement metric / key performance indicator (KPI) needs to be green? (players are the livestock/resource)... why.?... Bungie pay incentives are based on this KPI/? why?... that's what shareholders care about and no customer/player focused KPIs? Root cause = missing customer focussed metrics / KPIs. e.g. feedback ratings, enjoyment feedback, surveys... KPI priority order should change to CUSTOMERS (PLAYERS) --> EMPLOYEES --> SHAREHOLDERS in terms of KPIs. Don't start and stop with shareholders. Root cause = wrong KPIs Action to fix = Add customer KPI as top priority and link to Bungie employee incentives? Just ideas and theory. Hopefully our time is more respected in the future as players. I want to grind for gear, I don't want to grind 100s hours to be ALLOWED to grind the gear I want (tier 5), with my progress reset every 6 months and forced to use loadouts I don't want to use.

kill the deltas in mythic too. Being 50 under is stupid.and sometimes you can even be 70 under.

1 ReplySo nobody eat me alive here, but should bungie make armour more resilient and helpful so you have a better survival chance then reduce weapon damage a little bit and increase ability damage so you don’t feel underpowered in survival circumstances? Maybe alter bosses health to scale to damage output as you proceed in light level (in matchmaking and fireteam activities make it an average number based on everyone’s light level combined) so as you progress the activities seem to get more difficult as you progress? I’m sure I could come up with a way to make the power grind feel less gruelling too but that’s a different topic You all can add to my comment with ideas or even disagreement

4 RepliesYou wont grind 450 power levels every 6 months though.
