Power level is absolutely pointless in this game now
Bungie showed their hand with how they view the power grind and proved its only there for engagement numbers/time played, not because it actually benefits the player or how the player chooses to get the power. Power level advantage has been removed from pvp, and there is a power delta in essentially every PVE activity. So just remove the power grind entirely at this point, it literally does nothing for the player. Just have the gear tiers locked behind difficulties, and let players approach those difficulties at their leisure. Power level means nothing if it only exists to extend gametime and act as a barrier to entry. I have not seen this much discontent with a dlc within 24 hours of releasing. Not even Lighfall had this much negative sentiment this quickly. You can't sit here and say "we want the power grind to mean something again" while simultaneously throwing a power delta into every single piece of aspirational content that keeps us -20 to -50 under no matter what.

Like what even is this? Who was this even for? What was this supposed to accomplish? Power now exists solely as a gate for access to higher tier drops. You can’t enhance the tier of your god roll. You have to chase it again and again for each new tier that you reach. Mass dismantling still exists only now for a worse reason. “The difference in tiers is very minimal, it doesn’t really matter.” They why do tiers exist? Then they all become objectively worse in a few months anyway because of the new gear bonus. “New gear bonus is very minimal, it doesn’t really matter.” Then why does it exist? I mean c’mon. The writing is on the wall here people. Are people really out here falling for and defending this? I saw this mostly negative response and low player count coming a mile away as soon as they announced it. This is uninspired grind bait and it’s as cheap as it gets. Most people didn’t want this. I see why Joe left. He probably saw this coming too. All his work absolutely shredded to bits. What a shame.

Portal is a free to play grind.....yes? It's ok though there is a plan! Bungie will now add all our past paid season content and just recycle it to the free to play crowd slowly as new content in portal hoping to sell micro transactions to kids lol. You see it now?

Destiny has always been weird. Your actual player power level is determined by available gear, even if the gear isn't being worn or carried in inventory. Whenever we get arbitrarily demoted by the latest DLC, I barely worry about my gear, at least until I hit a cap. Sometimes I put on the highest number in the slot, even if it's blue. Other times, I just save the highest number, and play with the old stuff. I don't notice any difference. I've never liked it, but OTOH, Halo didn't have power levels at all. Just variations in the gear strength and the selected difficulty level. I feel like Destiny pretty much does the same thing except without having direct difficulty levels for the player to choose. Bungie picks the difficulty and players have to grind up the phony number to play the top level stuff for the top level rewards - if you're lucky enough to get a decent drop. Apparently, the problem now is the disparity between enemies and whatever arbitrary handicap Bungie puts on the player. If I'm not understanding this correctly, please give me the right info.
