There's not really much more to add. This has been the single most immersion breaking, gameplay disrupting mechanic I have ever experienced. The o ly reason this even seems to have been there is for no other reason than to elongate the playtime. I spent more time looking for these stupid holes to go in than actually engaging in gunfights. Please dont ever create anything like this again.

3 RepliesAgreed. It makes no sense, has eff all to do with the story and is just plain annoying. Oh look there's a small hole in the wall and there just happens to be a matterspark generator next to it. Why?
-
Hey Bungie, the matterspark jump sucks, the game test team let you down on this one. It's not fun. Prismatic was fun. This is poop. Have a great day.
-
I have always got lost before the metroid knockoff trying to find where the vague white icon is telling me to go. Now its so bad I just exit campaign missions and play something else. This game always adds new ways to make me feel dumb.
-
Playing it right now just trying to get thru the most stupid Destiny campaign ever done. Turning into this ball every 5 minutes is driving me crazy.
-
I wouldn't mind a jetpack add-on tho. It would finally give me the excuse to dust off my Warlock. The Fallen got all the cool toys & all we got was the ability to turn into a ball. 🤦♂️

Edited by Wolves: 7/18/2025 3:33:35 PMAll this ball and hole mechanics kinda makes me want to go play a golf game, should rename this expansion to golf ball simulator, lol.

2 RepliesI was not angry till the final mission. It was annoying. I died way more to falling from squishy controls than I did fighting enemies. But the final mission… Lots of swearing. It was unnecessary. It was too much. It wasn’t a puzzle, it was a massive hindrance to me enjoying the game. It was a headache. Add to that, my Xbox crashing for the 5th time while fighting the archon and I’m regretting this purchase. Haven’t said that EVER playing Destiny. Bungie owes us more than a trite apology.

5 RepliesTo me matterspark was just plain annoying. It just does not belong in to destiny. Transforming into small lightning ball in the middle of chaos, strike some generatos while trying to kill enemies, then trying to find small pipes where to go and rush here and there, transform back to guardian then again to lighting ball - just annoying, not fun. I really hope Bungie will forget this matterspark and I dont wanna see it ever again. Just fail.
-
Only half way through the campaign so far and am so sick of matterspark😒.

1 ReplyAgreed. That the ability exists is fine, but to make it into a puzzle piece over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again was frustrating, boring, and didnt do anything in terms of fun. I can take the occasional usage, but to make it mandatory so many times is dissapointing.

Edit: For me, it's so annoying having The Portal as the primary entry and then the Director as second. The Director is still outclassing it. It has its clear language—visually—and is simply beautiful. Except for the new toned-down colors.

Nothing says epic shooter like turning into micro ball lightning and rolling through duct work.

Literally quoting one of the devs from one of their first livestreams - “This is the crown jewel of this expansion”. As soon as I heard that I knew this expansion is gonna be very, very bleak. How can you have the audacity to call some gimmick ability the crown jewel….. delusional..
-
My problem is it's just terrible in its implementation with no explanation and no elaboration or good reason...you just reach out to some random console and can suddenly turn into a ball of rolling plasma....so why can't we activity use the hive magic we have literally been trained to use over the course of years? It's a gimmick just like prismatic and war mind cells....at least warmind cells added to the game...and prismatic is barely a sub class with half the functions it should have given the "lore" around it even though it was just for no good reason dropped on our shoulders from some shiny hole in the ground just like the morph ball....

It was way overused for sure. You can tell they thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread with how often they forced you to use it. It's insane that they would make you go into ball-mode just to get to one side of a tiny wall, push a button, then ball back out. Once or twice for something like that, sure, but when it's every other time you use it (and you use it a TON) it gets extremely tiring and wastes time. They had one chance to make the playable space actually feel like a real structure, where there aren't human-sized corridors everywhere, and swung completely in the other direction where everything is connected by tiny rat tunnels. It was insane.

Agreed it sucks

1 ReplyThis thing triggers terrible motion sickness. It gets stuck between objects, and falls off ledges because it goes too fast for areas you have to maneuver carefully through. Don't even get me started on whatever the camera does when this is activated. Including the mechanic with boss fights was asinine. I understand what they were trying to accomplish but they obviously didn't test this much. I got so frustrated trying to move across death traps and maneuver into a tiny hole that this ball just will not line up with. Slapping a timer on it (that can kill you) makes this even worse.
-
It just makes getting around more difficult, feels horrible to use
-
My brother watching me play Matterspark .. "Wow. So you can turn into an electric man plum anytime you want ??" "Yup" "Why ??" "Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to use these highly conveniently placed pipes, which by the way are just the right size for my highly charged manberry, so I can go places"

13 RepliesI'm sorry but I just started the campaign on legendary and after hearing ppl like U whining about this I thought, what's so bad?? There is nothing wrong with the matters park at all. It's simple. U get the spark U find the entrance, if Ur smart U find entrance first, get the spark take from a to b, simple. Well done. Job done. That's a gd one

1 ReplyI really liked it. Never had any trouble finding the holes. Every hole is surrounded by spores and in an open area for the most part. Camp wouldve been boring without it

6 RepliesEdited by Dr Livingston 9: 7/17/2025 12:43:15 PMGet rid of puzzles too. I don't want to do one puzzle. Destiny is not a puzzle game.. that is the number one reason for less people playing. The final shape saw a drop because of puzzles..people don't want to be stuck and want brainless shooting. They push puzzles because they know you hate it. Now Sony will take over and tell Bungie to bend over They want a puzzle everywhere so you get stuck for hours . Ha ha here is another puzzle you can't figure out you garbage. I want to shoot tough you will do puzzles and get stuck with no progression for days. You are going to do a 100 puzzles so you can shoot one dreg you garbage.
-
Agreed. Most pointless and unfun annoyance ever seen.
-
Me no think me shoot gun
-
6 RepliesHonestly. Im actually surprised Nintendo isnt sueing them for ripping off Metroid.

I like puzzles, matterspark, with a few exceptions just felt like roadblocks to slow me down in the campaign not anything clever.
