I know this is old news and I understand your leadership has been dryer than a desert but I would not "underdeliver"
Overdelivery is the only way. What do we count as overdelivery?
Perhaps updates to the core gameplay loop.
Can you pump out a raid? Do so
There are some years that are better than others, but let's be real, the underlivery is going to be an issue. Undelivery got you to the player numbers where revenant was. Removing crafting wasn't the issue. It's that the formula has not changed since shadowkeep. You rank up a vendor, and its never content that will last other than dungeons and raids. Making removable content was the way back then, but it isn't now. We need change, we need a wow.
And I definitely know -blam!- won't change. Why am I still playing? Social cliques, but if I could be honest, I wouldn't have played as much if a friend of mine knew how to play different games and doesnt cheap out (bought a 500 gig xbox series s) and destiny alone is about 250gb.
They need to completely rebuild the game from the ground up. I’m only one guy, so Its going to be hard to really think about how best to make an activity replayable, but I’ll give my best attempt.
1. PvP. PvP is the only true Replayable Activity, being that it’s the only gamemode where no two games are exactly the same. Each engagement and round is different from the last. So then, what needs to be done in order to make PvP more Engaging? I think Bungie needs to start implementing Week Long events at the midpoints between each major Update cycle. These events will be like Heavy Metal, the Craftening, and Laser Tag Weekend, albeit limited to PvP and PvP alone. The reason I want to put them at the mid point of each Update Cycle is that it should allow players the opportunity to engage with the narrative in a long enough time period that the game will start to feel boring on the Campaign side of things.
2. PvEvP. Gambit alone is not enough. How then, do we innovate upon what gambit gave us? I think we need to keep the core idea of Gambit going, but enhance both how players fight with each other, and how players race each other. We currently have a ton of old Gamemodes and Activity’s that could be turned into Race Like activities. Take for example, Savathunes Spire. It has Parkour, three separate levels, and each encounter is different. What if you forced two teams of four to race each other in their own individual tower, where the mechanics per floor changed, all the way up to the boss room? Or what about the Guardian Games Gamemode that had you complete old seasonal activities and boss fights where you have to kill each boss as fast as possible. Introducing an Invasion mechanic to this will further make it more interesting depending on how it’s implemented. Essentially, More gamemodes, more maps, and more life to the genre will breathe life into Gambit.
3. PvE is where it gets hard. It would be easy to say add a specific Legendary piece of gear to each strike (That CANNOT drop adept) that provides either a unique archetype, unique perk, unique perk COMBO, or a unique origin trait/armor perk. (In the case of the armor perk, it would be active at only one piece of gear as opposed to two). Have it drop at the same rate as Raid Exotics to make them rarer and increase drop chances up to 10% when at GM level would be fair. Otherwise, idk what else to do for it. I guess make GMs different than the base Strikes, similar to how there was a base and Sivafied version of D1 strikes back when Rise of Iron dropped.
Raid, Dungeons, and Campaigns.
The biggest thing we can do here is to make it so that Crafted Weapons cannot be enhanced. Make that exclusive to Random Drop weapons, and the replayability of each activity goes up. Reintroduce Weekly Campaigns with their own Adept Gear, and see to it that we have the return of IN GAME COSMETICS for the purposes of just LOOKING COOL. I mean, having alternate and limited Ornaments for your Raid Gear would be cool. Just like in D1. Or having unique Ornaments for your weapons beyond just the Adept gear. There is so much that can be done on the cosmetic side of the game to make an activity replayable. Oh, and to make the ornaments even more exclusive, make it so the Ornament itself can only be placed upon its corresponding piece of Armor, meaning you can only place an Ornament you get from the Kings Fall Raid on Kings Fall Armor.
