Hi, I'm Dthen and I'm here to share my opinion regarding moderators or forum ninjas and administrators on Bungie.net. I would like to think that some people will at least take note of my opinion, as it may take a while to complile into a legible format, such as a written post. Anyway, withour further ado, here are my two cents regarding the matter: Moderators & forum ninjas play an essential role in any forum's hierarchy primarily by keeping order within the forum, banning trolls, idiots, spammers & other pesky assorted trouble makers. Considering how essential they are to a forum in general, it is imperative that moderators/forum ninjas are active and high in number to stop a forum from becoming a cesspit, so to speak. While having a large number of moderators can make moderating a breeze, it is also worth making sure that each candidate is trustworthy so as not to have corruption amongst your ranks. I sense that Bungie.net seems to achieve this quite well, as most of the moderators and admins seem to be relatively sensible. This thread is a good example of how active the forum ninjas and admins are on Bungie.net, which is the reason why Bungie.net seems to be such a wonderful palce to spend my time. While trolling is rampant on these forums, retribution is swift and merciless. An ideal moderator should be courteous, active on the forums, intelligent and not afraid to dish out bans when they are necessary. They should be fair, indiscriminating and should always follow the ruels themselves. This last point is one which is often overlooked, as many moderators on many sites seem to feel as if they are above the law, somehow. That they don't need to follow the same rules which they enforce. For administrators, obviously, this is not true, as they are above their own rules and can do whatever the hell they want. I have seen it happen on many forums; someone posts a sensible thread & a moderator comes along and posts something neither constructive, nor pleasant to read. Sometimes these posts are justified. Some forums I visit are extremely hostile towards any violation of rules. Some are worse, some will bite your head off for just not being perfect with your manners. Other forums are hostile towards those incapable of proper spelling & grammar, which I feel is a bit mean. Spelling, I can agree with, for the most part, as spell checkers make making mistakes very difficult, assuming you bother to take the twenty seconds it takes to run your writing through a spell checker, but many people really do have problems with their grammar. Some of these people aren't native English speakers, so these people can be excused for the most part. I feel that the number of moderators on Bungie.net is adequate, although could never hurt, as long as there aren't more moderators than normal members, as that would just be weird. One thing I will note about Bungie.net is that there appears to be a very low number of real spammers for things such as -blam!- or viagra, etcetera. I'm not sure how Bungie have achieve this, but however it has been done, it deserves congratulating, so well done, Bungie.net users of Bungie.net on not trying to sell me viagra. Unfortunately, some things just cannot be properly combatted. Idiocy just happens to be one of these things. There appears to be no way to stop people from posting stupid things. No matter how many stickied topics there are saying to be courteous, no matter how many times it is nicely suggested that people use proper grammar and spelling, no matter what you attempt, you always seem to get people who just cannot be bothered to learn, or to write properly. I will admit to being riled by this, but there seems to be nothing anyone can do about it, but I can live in hope. Oh well, that was my short, jumbled up stream of thought on moderators. I have no idea what it means either & I apologise for how poorly formatted it is. Thank you for your time, Dthen.
