The DCV is a Scam!
Bungie's claim that Red War and other vaulted content is not feasible to bring back because the coding is that outdated proves one of 2 things. Either you lied to all of us about the DCV and you never intended to preserve content, effectively destroying any hope for new players to be able to get into this game, OR, you are lying to get out a lawsuit because while you say you can't restore the Red War, you sure had no problem with bringing back 3 raids from D1, the Moon, the Leviathan, and now the Dreadnought. So clearly it is possible to restore it, you just won't do it because appealing to your audience and doing the right thing to save your game in the long run, is somehow not considered to be a financially better choice? It was criminal already to remove content that we had paid for, but to boldly assume we will continue to support your company when this practice is ongoing? Destiny will not survive past the first year of Apollo. Bungie has a lot to answer for, and continuing the same trends will only burn in flames

The DCV should never have happened. Destiny 2 should have ended, with all of its content intact and Destiny 3 would have started with Beyond Light. But it did, and here we are. 🤷♀️ -
1 ReplyI dont think it's the code that's 'outdated' per say - I'd use the analogy of the Red War is a casset tape, and the engine used to be a cassete player. We're now in an era of CDs (new engine) so just because they have the cassette it won't play on the CD.

From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip of Freehold.

i really think the layoff may have had somebody with the knowledge of how to access red war and it was just taken to there grave with them in the layoff but i’m not here to defend bungie whatsoever they put this on themselves trying to expand into another IP

“Bungie removed Red War from the servers and engine, it’s effectively gone and no way to bring it back” I know exactly where the campaign is and all its code. In fact, I am in possession of it right now. It’s on my D2 disk, the physical disk I bought back in 2017. I’m NOT condoning this or anything but I feel like we’re on a ticking time bomb until someone (not me because I have no idea how) jailbreaks the game and starts playing it in all of its “outdated” glory, creating yet another D2 scandal…

12 RepliesThey literally told us this when BL launched. We knew THEN that any content brought out of the vault would need to be updated to work with the current game engine. And Beyond Light released four and a half years ago.... Color me shocked that reality doesn't fall into either category of your false dichotomy. Nevermind the fact that you only ever pay for a license to access the game, not the content itself, so nothing about is criminal or a scam and you agree to all of it every time there's a DLC update. I know that none of these facts are the confirmation bias you're searching for, but they are real and whether even I like it or not is completely and wholly irrelevant. I'd like to still have ALL of the content too, but we don't, and we've known why for at 4.5 years, even if we don't LIKE the why.

1 ReplyI’d love leviathan and eater of worlds back. They don’t need to update them. Simple and fun stuff. They don’t need to ruin the original destiny 2 stuff. It’d be nice for them to bring back the patrol Zone leviathan that was fun. Forget what season that was. Dreadnaught is cool and nostalgic. it would’ve been nice to destroy one of these ships with the other. I’m surprised we didn’t get to do that :-(. If they won’t bring back leviathan let’s use our dreadnaught super weapon to destroy it. We already killed calus and ghaul.

A lawsuit would never see the light of day. We all agreed to the tos. They can add remove or alter content at will without giving us any notice.

afaik its not really a lie. They do have to remake it from scratch and have said as much with D1 raids returning. The only concerning thing imo is that they don't even have an internal functioning build of the Red War. They should've been working towards some method of returning this content, and they have been reprising the assets and we have seen most of the assets reused in someway that are permanent which means they could feasibly return the destinations and most of the related content. We had a lot of Titan reused in Deep, we have a good chunk of Mars in the Battleground and D1 Mars even in Vox Obscura. Spoiler! [spoiler]Due to datamining some part of IO return in the Act 2 activity. We also have a small chunk of it with Whisper[/spoiler] Haunted redid almost the entire leviathan minus some underbelly parts, the fact that raid didn't return is actually a complete joke with all the zones being present for the main encounters. We also now have the entirety of the Dreadnaught present in D2 besides the cabal ship interior areas and the shield brothers strike areas. (imo the dreadnaught should return as a permanent destination with them eventually returning the Shield Brothers strike and retaining the Heresy loot as destination loot for the Dreadnaught.)

I'm not obsessed with this game as I used to in the past so I don't really care, it was obvious that they would never bring old content back (except pvp maps)

Iirc bubgie agreed to not use the Red War content as part of the copyright claim.

1 ReplyYer they was never gonna unvault red war or any of the campaign stuff as it would need a full rework to be compatible with the engine and current sandbox and systems. We are a lot stronger than Red war to the point even a legend campaign would be easy. No money in that much work if bungie brought back old content like that it's as a loss as they would need to take devs of other stuff to do it. This was obvious when they announced the DCV we just chose to ignore it and support the studio.
