So yeah. Tried for 8 hours yesterday to get a group together for Contest SD. 8 hours of being rejected because I have hearing issues. Rejected because I didn't want to use a mic with said issues. Posted in 5 different LFG's explaining the issue. Not one person replied back looking to help.
A game that I have enjoyed for years, made friends with, made memories with, and now I hate even loading it up. Im not saying the entire community sucks. But a big portion of you can kick rocks.

lol I get rejected because my guardian rank is too low, considering I’ve did day 1 raids, dungeons etc. the last 2 dungeons and new raid I haven’t even got to do. I pretty much just gave up and don’t really bother playing lol. Destiny community is probably one of the worst but it is what it is

1 ReplyHey Bro, I'll help you. Not the best player. Headset or not. I good with that....TitanBTUSN#0380 I'm usually on here everyday, you can hit me up....

27 RepliesThere is far too much elitism and gatekeeping imo…

7 RepliesThe community is a reflection of the creators. They encourage toxicity in their game.

I’ve played destiny from the beginning and this community is by far the worst I’ve ever played with, gta is a close second, and I’ve been gaming since the first Atari. However, I’ve discovered it’s fun to troll them because they take everything so personal 🤣.

1 ReplyI don't know you, or how you engage with the game. I don't know how good or bad you are, and frankly speaking it doesn't mean all that much. That being said, while I understand that your disability isn't your fault, I can also see how people wouldn't want to add that variable into the equation when doing a contest version of a dungeon. In a tense environment where call outs might matter a bit more, having a team mate that can both hear and speak is invaluable because it takes less time for me to verbally say something to you and for you to hear it than to type it out and read it. Again, not saying that you aren't capable, but working with you is probably going to take a bit more effort than working with someone who has fully functional faculties. It doesn't sound like anyone was actively being rude to you, and unless a person is being actively rude I see no issue with people being selective of who they play with. Their fun matters just as much as yours does, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Next time I'd recommend having a premade ready a few days in advance who are aware of your conditions and will work with you.

The community does not suck just because you did not find a team.

9 RepliesHow do you not have a group of people tailored to your needs? Don’t be a burden to others because of your faults. I don’t want to be playing slightly better VotD with 2 ray charles.

Ran a crota lil while back with a deaf streamer. He was probably the fastest texter I've ever seen. Full paragraph in the time it'd take most ppl to do a few words. Anyways, I'm not sure if it's an in game feature or a program he has or what, but it turned our voice comms to chat for him. Don't know if it's in game chat or not. Didn't go into details. But I'd think just setting your phone next to your TV/PC speaker and turning on voice to text would be a huge help. Sorry you didn't get to do contest mode. I like the dungeon a lot but I didn't even remember they were rerunning contest. Bummer.

Personally, I have been stuck on master challenge for the Witness encounter for over an entire season. My tolerance reached its limit. Thus, I stopped accommodating. If you don’t have a mic, you are not welcome on my fireteam.

As a note to anyone -blam!- I suppose its to late for this contest but if your looking for groups hit me up. Our discord link is discord.gg/lightbearer. We literally help everyone who asks and really the only limitation is generally schedule conflicts but we do have a healthy EU and NA population. Our mentality is "teach a person to fish" so you'll learn alot along the way. Look forward to helping anyone who is interested.

5 RepliesRule nr 1 about destiny community: NEVER make a post about leaving becus of community, you will get attacked, made fun of,told to git gud and so on.
-
If you do t have a team u can rent one
-
the game is only built for the top .01% destiny has become to mechanic based throwing mechanics in dual destiny ,then strikes and now dungeons. it will not retain players that dislike heavy mechanics ever.

5 RepliesOkay man, we gotta be real sometimes. You’re trying to do CONTEST MODE. A thing very few people ever can even achieve. Me and my 2 friends who are pretty damn good, could not get past the final boss at all. Ain’t no way any major issue like one that involves hearing would have been cool with us yesterday. That sucks, and I’m sorry for you my dude, but sometimes you have to understand you’ve been thrown a curveball and people will people. Once again, you’re trying to do something as difficult as a contest mode dungeon. This is something very few people ever achieve, and countless others wish they could achieve. That’s life…

1 ReplyI sympathize with your experience, but I feel you can’t entirely blame people for wanting to optimize their chances of completing the activity when there’s a strict deadline. What I’d recommend is try to find teams of like-minded people without the pressure of the contest time limit. Make friends who you can more reliably call on instead of LFG’ing the day of. Having people who are prepared to take on the challenge with whatever level of communication is required for you before contest starts is generally a better idea rather than scrambling through tons of teams who are not interested in accommodating you. I’d recommend using a Discord lfg community instead of Bungie’s official LFG if you intend to try to make meaningful connections. There are plenty of players who are happy to play with no mic and text comms (social anxiety, hearing or speaking issues, etc.), you just have to seek them out proactively for challenges like contest.

1 ReplyEdited by Peanut_343: 2/24/2025 9:36:24 AMMy issue with playing with ppl who can’t hear is that you can’t hear my call-outs and as I play controller typing isn’t easy. If you can hear me but can type to tell me things that’s fine. Perhaps try pc players who can type more easily?

3 RepliesIt's a shame that it didn't work out for you, but to blame the community... I don't know. We're talking about a contest here. With lots of challenges where loadout, speed and so on are important. If there's someone there who has problems communicating, it gets difficult. Of course, people only choose the ones where they think they'll be most successful. As I said, it's a shame that you didn't have any success in the LFG, but you have to understand the other side too.

1 ReplyI’m not going to comment or give you hassle. I’m just going to post this link:- https://m.facebook.com/groups/deafgamers/posts/i-probably-asked-this-before-but-is-there-any-apps-or-any-technology-that-gives-/9053371561393065/ Hope this helps.👍

5 RepliesNone of this is anyone else’s fault. You are trying to do the hardest content in this game that requires near perfect communication when you cannot communicate, you are asking for a borderline carry at that point. You are the one being unreasonable.
-
1 ReplyCan I say a lot of players were having technical issues getting on for the contest run #2. I myself had these issues while mid run helping others get across the line. I needed up being out for 17 hours longer than the PS outage. Sorry to hear others didn’t want to play but this could just be one of those days where things didn’t go well for you. I have had one this week where I ran the 12 man mission six times to have no one join for hours or a team that couldn’t do the mission itself. It can be hard but that’s what can happen. I hope you made it in the end and Head up Guardian.

1 ReplyI mean, the game is done. Frontiers is just gonna show the cracks in everything the game has. Heresy is like the burst of energy patients get when nearing death, they seem better but it's just the body pumping everything it has left. Hope it was worth Pete's car collection.

Respectfully dude, most of us started playing destiny in our teens and we’re all grown adults with full time jobs and families. When we get an afternoon or an evening to play, time is precious and people want to find and make a solid team to clear timed content. I’m not saying that’s the case for everyone but selfishly I wouldn’t have joined your fireteam for the reasons listed above. I hope you don’t feel bad enough to quit though as this game has been a great space for many of us and I hope it continues to be one for you, despite your recent interaction.

If you need any help with GMs this season shoot me an message. I’d love to play with you.
-
Yeah, not to be that guy, but how are you blaming that on the community? I get you have issues, but are people supposed to sacrifice their time to help you just because or just to be nice so you can do the dungeon?
