Tormentors need to be erased

They ruined tons of 40 wave onslaught runs and their back making players hate the nether, the only time I lose revives is tripping and the tormentor. I don't know who thought to make a miniboss/boss with ridiculous damage reduction to the point area denial frames do 100 body shot damage over time and bolt charges do sub 10,000. HE feels like a damage vacuum or black hole that runs you down constantly to hold you in place while the ad army eats your "limited" health.

  • Tormentor boss in that one section is the new Valus Taurac from vanilla D1. Bullet sponge on steroids.

  • I enjoy the Tormentors, Wyverns, Guardian-Hive mini bosses way more than flooding all their content with Champions. Although, I wish Bungie would design cool new & fresh bosses to fight rather than repurposed mini-bosses.

  • I don't know if this is a mechanic, a cheese, or a glitch: There are two structures on the high area at either side. Each is a square base with four near-vertical spars at the corners, with the space between filled with roiling light. If the Tormentor is pursuing you, run through that light-filled space. If it's close behind it will get trapped. Then just stay behind cover at the relevant corner and shoot its health away, remembering to check for ads spawning. I did this earlier, discovered it by accident with my Void hunter.

Are we really meant to be surprised that an "Area Denial Grenade Launcher" isn't suited for a highly mobile boss that requires critical hits? The guy is annoying, no doubt, but you have to take some responsibility for your own loadout choices. At least this one has the crit spot on his back like the Liminality boss, but that's not much help for solos that struggle. Also, don't fear the grab attack - it does absolutely no damage right now, whether it's a result of the health changes or just a bug I don't know. If you really need to, leave the arena with the portal at the back and farm the respawning pots for health and ammo.

      • You can cheese it by entering the higher up arena portal. Walk through very slowly until you see the Tormentor. Stand still and dps. The tormentor won't move. Once he/she is dead, kill the adds. And that's it. Zero hassle works every time.

          • I dont mind them but when it comes to boss variant tormentors that damage reduction either needs to be reduced or removed. Was in the nether solo cause team kept dying like morons wasted all res tokens and im out here damn near out of ammo fighting a dude thinking he's Mario jumping around every 5 seconds.

              • Bungie got carried away with stuffing tormentors into all sorts of activities, even if it contradicts the lore and banal logic. I think that everything should be done sensibly. As for the new activity - tormentor is the only boss with a very large number of hit points and healing, and I don't see the point in this except for artificially increasing the time it takes to complete the activity. When I think about going through the new activity again, my brain tells me "no, I'd rather go to PvP, Gambit, anywhere, just not the fat tormentor again."

              • 2 Issues with this game mode. 1: Heavy ammo is super rare both for drops and from vases 2: Every damn enemy in this thing uses tracking shots. So no matter behind a wall, ducking or playing smart you are getting hit continuously. Add in the tormetors dumb mechanics, absolute immunity to damage till you break his shoulders which required most of your heavy and its just a boring, frustrating poorly or not at all thought about encounter. What pisses me off the most is Bungie. Someone sat there and coded this -blam!-. Put the hp at X, damage at X, enemy types and how the tormentor requires 80% of the run time and said "oh this will be so cool". That should tell everyone what they need to know. Bungie hates its player base, never plays they game they actually make and are just checking off a list of to do's. To think this same idiot thought players having to do this all damn season long and still made it this shows Bungie absolutely hates the very game that pays their wages and the players playing it. Its that or someone is intentionally trying to kill this game because -blam!- like this is why its failing

                • I wish I could fight them in nether before they fix the health bug. Alas, I don’t have stable internet at the moment. Tormentors are fine. I’m so happy to 1v1 them when I hear them spawn I start smiling. I recommend damage mitigation an overshields to not die so often to them. Learn when to back off when things get hairy. If being aggressive at close range isn’t your thing they can easily be kited around the arena especially now with the rally barricade recent buffs. Hopefully you take these pointers to heart an start eating them for breakfast. Sincerely, Tormentor Eater GM level

                  • The entire point of Tormentors and the Dread in general were designed to waste player's time by forcing them to do critical damage or basically nothing, adding extra time to whatever activity Bungie wants to make more tedious. Which in itself was the start of the plummet in player numbers beginning in Lightfall when Bungie wanted to "bring challenge back to Destiny" by means of making activities just take longer with endlessly and instantly spawning adds. It's all well and good that I can vaporize an enemy into subatomic particles but somehow their little backpack or drone can still spawn from that inexistent state, or the outer flesh of a Nezerec clone is simply immune to an explosive blast despite having 1-2 glowing weak spots. None of that gameplay feels fluid or is an enjoyable experience, particularly when they are dashing after another player that is running away with their back turned to you. Here is an idea instead: if an activity is fun, then players will play it often and repeatedly for solid rewards, without the need to force them to slow down for less rewards.

                    • Yep it feels a little bit hilariouse basically all slow supers are pretty worthless because it triggers instantly the tormentors super counter attack stoping it. Even when he is focused on my teammates when i am far behind him and do my super he instantly turns and fuggs me. Thats pretty stupid imo.

                    • Generally speaking, Bungie is mean. Not in a good way either. I’ve found saving my super to unload first thing and then getting another if it drags on can make a big difference.

                    • Agree . I rather fight 100 different hive guardians than 1 stupid tormentor .. These new witness enemies are the worst created enemies i have ever seen in any game . Those bats , the little ones that threw freeze stuff and pull you in with their strand things and the subjucators , my lord ... But i rather fight multiple waves of them than one tormentor . The final mission of the final shape campaign was amazing . It was fun to do and no tormentor . Those subjucators do a lot of damage but at least they don't chase you around the map , do a heavy slam attack that supresses you to eventually grab you and finish you . Nothing in destiny should suppress you . It defeats the whole point why anyone plays destiny 2 . We have all this space magic but no , one tormemtor slam and you are useless . No more space magic , start hopping like a bunny and hope for the best 😂 Freakin tormentors ... I absolutely hate them .

                      • The strand subjugator is far more annoying. His basic attack does more damage and his suspension clips through cover. Tormentors at least like to play ring around the Rosie while you crit them to death and their leaps are easy to dodge.

                        • I just wish their crit boxes actually matched what we see (unless that's just bullet magnetism pulling my shots away from where I'm actually aiming). Like 90% of the shots you'll miss on them and Subjugators will be due to either flinch or them shooting you 0.15 seconds before you do. And I'm sorry, but no one is reacting that quickly to flinch or them shooting you in a way that alters their entire stance or hit box. It feels especially bad in the Nether when ammo is so limited and you end up stuck with a primary like Crimson (which I feel needs a slight rework), even more so when you're stuck fighting *multiple* bosses in that area.

                        • The annoying thing with Tormentor is not that they are challenging, but rather that their gameplay loop needs rework. A lot of super in the game involve being up close to enemies, and the fact that they can immediately suppress your on going super or abilities, with little to no way to counter it is annoying.

                          • They are tough enemies but that is the fun part. They are one of the only enemies that make me go “oh shoot. That’s a tormentor”. As for losing your super yea that’s the tormentors main thing. Being close to them is dangerous regardless of the situation. Keeping your distance and using precision weapons is their weakness. They have a solid ranged attack but a sniper, linear fusion rifle, or even a machine gun is able to handle them fairly easily. On lower level content even shotguns can do it if you have enough defense. If you know you might run into a tormentor you should have a precision weapon on and keep your distance. Easier said than done but they have a clear cut weakness.
