Unless Froniters is absolutely incredible and offers a complete servers update and anti cheat system, looking at the current state, which is awful along with the further player base drop, I honestly don't see Destiny making it past mid year without a substantially increased playerbase.
I'm going to ask a genuine question: Is the game going to die out this year? Is it worth looking for another mmo style game?
I don't mean to be negative as there is a lot of that in the forums already. I just want an honest opinion 😊
Thanks.

Based on how much effort is still going into the game, I think it's done. It's just going to be these cookie cutter episodes until they aren't profitable to make anymore. Which from the looks of things might be sooner rather than later.

4 RepliesYou're not wrong about that other game it offer substantially better anti cheat. But here's the issue (at least in my opinion) There's no other game like destiny out there. Will the game lose a bunch of players? Absolutely! But the majority will return to it IF the issues are fixed. Otherwise yeah it's pretty much gonna wither and die.

10 RepliesWon't be completely dead unless there is a competitor in this space. I'll be swapping my main game to MH: Wilds though

You've had one foot out the door for so long, just go; don't ask strangers for permission.

Dump it, the games done.

Possibly... final shape was a fitting end for a lot of players, it would seem (judging on player numbers in other posts or articles), and those with the annual pass may think the same when heresy is done. What frontiers might do is attract new players, or give newer players a better platform to build from... that's all positive. I'd put returning players in this category as well... those who've been away for a few years maybe. Older/legacy players may feel that changing the hamster wheel isn't enough... but everyone is different and I'm sure there will be many players who will enjoy the updates.

Oh c'mon, "Mid 25 and then dead ?", no need to go THAT far ... End of January at best, lmao

Who knows? The new player experience looks like it would be awful. Constant paywalls walls and disjointed story. This game has no power progression and after years of playing, things are going to become stale and boring for people. As people leave, they need to be replaced. IMO, they should focus more on bringing in new players than retaining the ones that are here. There’s a lot of existing content that players could enjoy for the first time which is an advantage over trying to make enough content to retain bored players.

Edited by xbroggiex: 1/16/2025 12:32:13 AMHonestly, all it took was one peek at gameplay of the mobile game and what it contains to really push me to the opinion of "this game is so cooked". There isn't much Bungie can do now except hope that their kicking the can down the road strategies pay off to let them keep going another year. From what they shared of Frontiers its sort of base line level stuff that they should've done years ago and nothing has truly "wowed" me in those articles. Maybe it will change with Heresy and more reveals about Frontiers but I don't really have much hope in Bungie to deliver something actually worth while. Them also posting vague tweets to reference old guns returning like Palindrome and Exalted Truth (both void HC's for some reason) is just sad, do they genuinely think people actually care that Palindrome is back for the Nth time or that some random Trials handcannon is coming back? Those are both guns that have their identity based in PvP but the PvP is just dead in the game because hardly any new maps get released and they haven't evolved the crucible beyond the usual 3v3 and 6v6 modes for years. Like either they genuinely don't have anything to give us that would excite us or they genuinely think they a cooking something great when what they are actually cooking is just the excrement of a sick dog between 2 moldy pieces of bread.
offers a complete servers update and anti cheat system.
Ain't gunna happen. If that kills it, then so be it.

Depends what Frontier's will give us like we can easily can have new stuff but the problem with this tha "new" means refurbished content at Bungie and if Bungie learned from their past mistakes ( unlikely ) then we can have real new and interesting stuff and not reused content I don't mind if players can't wait to play Frontier's because new experience but i keep my expectations low so can't be disappointed

Edited by TwinStripe9070: 1/15/2025 9:52:13 AM
I'm going to ask a genuine question: Is the game going to die out this year? Is it worth looking for another mmo style game?
The answers to those questions are 'more than likely' and 'always' The hourly concurrent players on Steam dropped to under 4000 this week and the peaks are hitting barely 20,000 at the weekly resets and weekends. By comparison, Warframe gets double that, Path of Exile 2 gets 6 times that, and Marvel Rivals gets 10 times that. Even if you extrapolate out and say that that's a third of the playerbase for those games (which is doubtful, because PC made up 60% not too long ago), that's far too few players for a free to play game relying on the sale of expansions (which don't exist anymore) and cosmetics to support a staff of 850 (bear in mind that the three other games I mentioned each have a staff of half that at least with sustainable, but optional, monetisation). The changes you've mentioned aren't going to happen, and if you genuinely have to ask the questions in the first place, you already know the answers. Besides, if by some miracle Sony are willing to shoulder the burden of a developer constantly in the red and the game does still limp along, having another game in your stable will only enrich your gaming experience in the long run.

2 RepliesOnce Human is pretty good for an MMO with third scenario coming up after Manibus and Way of Winter, fun and the weapons and armor are worth chasing

3 RepliesBeen playing New World Aeternum made by Amazon an it's been good.

I stopped playing, and none of the many people I met and played with during lockdown still play (which is one of the reasons I finally quit). Still have a buddy who plays D1 with me, though. Prognosis not good.

5 RepliesEdited by Hyperstorm76: 1/15/2025 12:20:27 PMI think that if it IS a catastrophic failure it'll remain on life support but new content may dry up while they work out whether to continue with D2 or start on D3.

I am starting to think that you wont have to make a decision because it will be mostly free. Without making some population gains via some bold changes and delivery now (unlikely investment).. they wont be able to gate the population from a paid experience vs non-paid. There will be too few paid (and MUST project a steep decline in pre-orders) and all the rest with their unpaid vaults will just not log in as much... making the experience worse and worse... (you generally want to manage that decline not have it drop to nothing)... I think they wouldn't shutter the game before making it all free.. because they seem to be happy with pure engagement as a metric and because as we speak people are willing to buy from ever-verse and there must be some general stipulation on allowing a customer to access what they paid > for a certain length of time... or refund I guess for certain period of time could make that sudden...
