I mean: I play this gane a lot and I have made many tonics and only have 40 tonics discovered.
You just put those tonics somewhere, Bungie.

1 ReplyThe grind behind them is actually obscene. I currently need to do 5 campaigns, plus post campaign stuff, plus 50+ seasonal challenges, plus around 50 quests, & then I find out I need to unlock 61 tonics, the onslaught & elders ones take like 50-100 activity completions to get the materials to unlock the tonics & they take over an hour each run if I can even complete them given I'm 25 under level, oh & I need to level up but most of the pinnacles sources are 2030-2040 so again I'm under level, nearly forgot all the fieldwork stuff that only gets unlocked by unlocking 61 tonics, oh & I've only 4 weeks to get it done bcoz mm will die when the new episode drops. No wonder new players run a mile lol

it's a flat materials grind where you can't even do enough tonics to make them worthwhile until you have done the seasonal activity so often that you loathe it, it is literally to drive people into enduring the seasonal activity longer than they want to - along with some other activities a lot of players mostly skip because they don't enjoy it it is purely to manipulate players for metrics on the grind and to keep players logged in because their tonic buff still has a bit of time remaining and runs in real time. Similar to call of duty xp buffs. It's utter trash design with regard to player value. Nobody asked for this. This isn't a remotely adequate replacement for weapon crafting, as far as dopamine and rewards. This is the swan song of destiny 2, less content, more player manipulation for metrics, more f2p style systems to create more grind out of less content. Destiny 2 makes an INSANE amount of profit but because it is declining it is treated as a complete loser that is given barebones treatment and suits act like it is just something to extract as much money from players on the way down.

2 RepliesRemember the people that thought crafting was ruining Destiny.

Tonics are inherently a good idea, just implemented in a terrible way. The tonic unlock process should of been completely by game play, not spamming green, blue, purple etc in a confusing manner. They should also never of had a timer. Just set your tonic at the start of game play and it stays active until you change it. They are also not particularly interesting. The only one I use is making tonic traces give bit of life as I love arc hunter this season. Why not have them do stupid bombastic things? Anyway, no hate... just my feedback

Watch Tonics be in the Trials update lol -
4 RepliesI really don’t get all the whining about them. They’re cool. It’s free loot and access to stronger artifact perks. I get some people want crafting but it’s really. Not. That. Bad. If you play trials with one you get absolutely showered with loot. If your bad at trials that sucks but it’s an endgame activity wether you like it or not and there’s always time to improve

The entire Tonic system needs scrapped. This is NOT a replacement for crafting. At best, Tonics are a simple boost to a stat or ability like meals in Monster Hunter. However Bungie historically struggles to balance the game. Tonics complicate that balance. For this reason, Bungie would be better off scrapping the whole thing and instead focusing on making crafting a more straightforward and viable option. After weight gate, Tonics, and failed story progress, the best Bungie can do is offer loot and a direct way to obtain it. Each run of an event should offer a chance for a god roll. If the roll doesn't drop, then dismantling it should make progress in crafting a god roll. . Bungie said that crafting robbed players the joy of "earing" a god roll. Do they know what EARNING actually means? RNG is literally the opposite of EARNING. Crafting is EARING. . The argument that "players will stop playing once they can craft a weapon" should also tell you why "random drops" were not random and I highly doubt they are now.

I have no idea what they do, I have no idea how to make any specific ones and please no one explain the concept to me either. Thank you

"We hear you don't like tonics, so we are giving you tonics for your tonics"-The bs....I mean Destiny 2 team -
I’ve had 45 forever! I don’t know if I’ll ever get the 46 one but I don’t care screw this game!
-
1 ReplyThe problem is most Tonics require ingredients exclusive to activities that people don't want to play more than a few times a week. They need to either increase how many we get, or the number of sources.
-
tonics = fantastic idea with terrible unlock system
-
Not prepared to run round like a medieval apochry in order to play a game.
-
Or just don’t do it ! It’s made absolutely no difference to how I lay this game .

They really want that -blam!- tonic system to work. Just bring crafting back to its glory.

Edited by 123TheCloop: 1/9/2025 11:03:28 AMI refuse to interact with tonics, the entire system is stupid. yeah lets waste resources to craft the green tonics JUST to unlock the blue tonics to then JUST unlock the purple tonics. Tonics should have been tiered in there resource requirements, so blue tonics have completely separated requirements to blue and purple tonics (and same applies for blues and purple tonics being independently) but each type of resource drops equally so this way, you can burn your "green tonic resources" without it effecting your ability to craft blue tonics, and the blue tonic resources dont effect the purple tonics. this is why the tonic system is straight up toilet paper with a brown smear on it. Had tonics been introduced this way instead of the current way I would have been fine crafting them. Yeah cool, let me just burn what little resources I have because to be frank im not spending 1+ hour in onslaught salvation to get mediocrity in drops. I'de rather spend that 1 hour+ farming in PoE2 to be honest, game has a far better "loop" when it comes to grinding and minmaxing for god rolls etc.

Edited by PK_Haseo: 1/9/2025 2:22:23 PM…keep forgetting that “Destiny 2” is a RPG game. If it was any other game (borderlands) it would’ve had offline mode cough’ cough’.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 1/8/2025 10:13:31 PMThis has to be the worst seasonal system since Drifter. Another materials grind. Some are locked behind specific activities, including an exotic mission, with unreasonably low drop rates. Multiple tonics for the same weapon for different activities? You have to spam make lower tier tonics you won’t use just to unlock the ones you do want. It’s so needlessly overcomplicated. They should have just made all tonics work for any of the seasonal activities and not had activity specific materials in order to make them. Or you know, we had a superior system with attunement for the original onslaught.
-
In my opinion, the drop rates for tonic materials are just waaay too low. By the time you’ve collected enough reflective flakes, you likely have done your fill of the new exotic mission. Tonics should’ve been something that takes a small amount of time to collect, but allows you to target farm. Imagine this: You do an activity like Tomb of Elders, and you receive 3-5 random materials per bonus objective completion and another 5 from the big final chest. There are 17 different tonics that let you target farm a weapon each with their own material. But you only need 1 of that material to craft a tonic that lasts 100 minutes. - You need a specific one, but the material drops are plentiful and the timer is long. Weapons have a 100% drop chance from enemy defeats, 75% drop chance from activity chests. Would’ve gone significantly better than the current version.

2 RepliesI’m not making tonics. Don’t see how that applies to a looter shooter
-
I haven’t touched tonic with a pole, life’s too short.

1 ReplyThis idea was so stupid that it actually got me to quit the game. I was actually mad that I spent money on this garbage seasonal content
-
1 ReplyI stopped playing the main content from Act 1 ... The moment tonics made it's appearance I quit playing the content. I then went to Plan B and played the other parts of the game but bugs upon bugs, disconnections, error code hell and cheaters in PvP ended my engagement totally. For now. However there seems to be no improvement.
-
16 RepliesI really don't see the issue with this system. You get the ingredients from playing and doing bounties and fieldwork. All you have to do is to use a tonic and for around an hour you will get drops of the chosen item. To me it is a good system, being able to get Episodical weapons simply by killing ads and completing objectives in any activity, is great.
-
5 RepliesYou need to keep making tonics to "discover" higher tier tonics of the same kind (armor, world weapons, onslaught, etc)
