I came back to the game after three months, made a new character and the first gun I pick up is power 2000... this completely eliminates a lot of the progression, now I'm a new guardian and everything I get is a powerful legendary. And, now everything in the game is completely open to me which really overwhelms me with content, when I just want to be starting with low-level activities and now campaigns and strikes aren't fun when I'm walking right through the enemies with really good weapons. Oh and it doesn't help that the only thing activities reward you with is glimmer which I already have maxed out from my old character and with basically nothing to spend it on.
