Lightfall is kind of.... Good????

Trying it again after such a long time on another character and I strangely like it.... I get why the hate, I do like the whole fact that it's connected to the final shape. Idk, I like the whole cyberpunk theme to it, neomuna is beautiful. I'll probably get some hate for this.

    • It was okay at best. Strand released kinda weak because all the good fragments were timegated and lack of strand weapons. The story wasn't great, new lights having to fight a tormentor in the first mission was a big L. No one knew what the "radial mass" was when the 3rd mission launched. Osiris yelling in our ears the whole time. Felt like a strand tutorial at times. Calus boss fight was alright but his second phase was to short on legendary to even care. I think the trailer for neptune set expectations a little high. I was expecting fighting in buildings more dimensional layout. Instead we got a glorified sparrow track layout. The raid was good, definitely easy. The fact it's a cabal raid doesn't do it any favours tho. Great design tho. But season of defiance was probably one of the worst seasons to launch. I still don't use any of those weapons. The story was just underwhelming. Prisoner rescue on earth after losing to the witness didn't feel like It progressed towards lightfall but the ability spam was fun. THAT BEING SAID. It's greater than the sum of its parts. It was fun and worth the weight, and even though I look back at it with criticism. I did enjoy it at the time

The city feels empty and also kinda looks like a halo 5 forge map. Didn’t meet the hype of being a hidden city on Neptune. They didn’t give us the guns shown in the advertising. Only gave us the hand cannon since people kept talking about it. Where’s my cool breach loader GL? Campaign took to much time teasing you with strand. Give it to us in mission 2 or 3 so we can utilize it during our time planting the campaign. The raid was stupid easy with lackluster encounter. Aside from planets. Love that one. Also can’t forget Nimbus. Hate that guy. Other than that, it was pretty solid. I specially strand, which was done extremely well.

      • If it wasn't for Nimbus's cringe writing , it would have been received better He doesn't mature or grow at all, even with the responsibility of being the only Cloudstrider and his mentors death , there is no indication he remotely grasps the scale of his responsibility

        • Disagree. Hate the place. I never felt like it fit in Destiny. It's too much neon and gives me Tron vibes🥴 Kinda creeps me out, add to that the weirdo Silver Surfer ripoff and I'm out.

          Lightfall was a placeholder. Bungie decided to lengthen the saga and, in the process, massacred the already weak main story that went all the way back to D1. If they had been able to properly finish the Destiny Saga - going from Witch Queen and then next to TFS, the game would not have suffered so. Lightfall (Neomuna) after TFS would have been much better. They could have built from there.

        • While I didn't mind it overall (Nimbus was ok at absolute best and the sheer amount of "Radial Mast" with no explanation would make a drinking game of it a capital punishment) it definitely was NOTHING like how it was revealed to be at the start and felt way out of order. If it took its time with the narrative and didn't have it done before any of the DLC and had the portal as the big thing just before the Witch Queen and Ahsa was telling us we need her help to beat the Witness but didn't specify and then later on the portal happened and we go "So this must be why we need Savathun so bad" I wouldn't dislike it as much.

        • People's main complaints were that it was difficult, barely advanced the story, & strand was weak at the time & especially weak on the parts where we were forced to use it. Those issues don't really matter if you play it today.

          • The issues of lightfall have mostly gone away today, but if you only play everything in chronological order, it is very confusing, the veil is poorly explained, and the origin of the witness was originally only a seasonal cutscene, not even tied to dlc. As well as poor writing of nimbus, after rohan's death, nimbus may have felt a bit of grief, but it quickly disappeared, not in a way that its like, we are cloudstriders, this is what life is like, because Im pretty sure no cloudstrider ever usually died in combat until rohan, there was no transition, nimbus was just distracted by the next mission and that's it. But also, calus feels like a very easy boss in the end, even with the legend difficulty, the hardest part wasn't dying to tormentors, it was getting yeeted off. As well as that calus didn't have too much health for a boss, and that his attacks were all base cabal enemy attacks, centurion, and gladiator. As for the actual story itself again, many things that didn't have clarity, such as the veil, the witness had literally no more info on it than it had when it was revealed, other than zavala saying that it is instead an entity that uses the darkness against us. The music of lightfall was good, the look was nice I guess, but strand didn't feel properly tied into the story as well, it was cast off as a side effect of the veil, while stasis was the focus of beyond light, and prismatic was in a vision of the traveler telling us that we need light and dark to stop the witness, add on that there is a training montage in lightfall about strand. To top it off, lightfall's first and last cutscenes can be stitched together into one, which could be used as the first cutscene of final shape, or part of it. Though i like how final shape went, lightfall's story was definitely worse than witch queen's with many flaws, one might even argue that the feel of neomuna, the cyberpunk ish feel, doesn't really fit with the theme of the witness nearing finality, though that might be seen as nitpicky.

          • Lightfall WAS good. You’ll see hardly anybody agree with you about that on these official forums though, because everyone here is a contrarian. One gender non-conforming character and streamer discourse together made it impossible for many here to accept Lightfall. And the moderators here just let the bigotry ride. So over time the consensus has become that it was a bad expansion everybody hated. Which is just not true. It was good. And arguably some of the best music the game has ever hosted is in Lightfall.

            • I enjoyed it but really wish these planetary locations were much bigger and more to explore and do. Aside from that it was fun for what it is.

            • As far as game statistics go, you'd be correct. There was far more engagement with lightfall. The story was bad. There was no question, but the other content wasn't as inaccessible as it is now.

            • I liked Lightfall and Beyond Light more than Witch Queen simply because of Stasis and Strand. I wasn’t really a fan of crafting being added to the game in Witch Queen. Nimbus was the only thing I hated in Lightfall.

            • many of the missions in terms of gameplay were fun and challenging when i first ran it on legendary wish i could say the same for its story
