A new dungeon launch used to be something I would get excited for, and I'm still excited, don't get me wrong
But as someone who does not have a consistent high end playgroup, that excitement is being dampened by the fact that I'm basically gonna have to wait two or three days to go and actually be able to run it.
It's a kind of thing I can accept for raids, the contest race for raids is something that's very important to destiny, but this just feels... hollow. Kind of like an artificial attempt to try and replicate what raids have to make up for the fact that we're gonna be getting less raids every year, and it just doesn't feel like it works to me.
And I am a relatively high end player, I can't imagine that the players on the lower end of the spectrum are happy about this. Dungeons are a sort of entry level end game activity for their sake, and this goes to muddy that a bit, in a way that I don't think is good for the game or the community long term.
Edit: So I wanna make this clear, because I feel like it's important that I do given how much I'm already seeing you types come out of the woodwork (you know who you are).
I do not agree with you guys on the streamer hate. I do not think we should be using streamers as a scapegoat for our problems, and that this community is so ready to attack itself and it's most prominent members is a part of why we are considered to be one of the most toxic communities in gaming right now.
I do not want you guys here, and I am not going to sit here and let you use my post as a springboard for your agenda.
Edit 2: I have been made aware that contest is only gonna be required until the top 3 teams finish, which, while I still disagree with the idea of contest on dungeons, that's significantly more tolerable than having it be required for like 2-3 days the way that they do with raids now.

I keep this short and simple as a bright engram. Bungie's little contest race for dungeon was a clown car train wreck nuked from what's left of Bungie remembers pleasing their Sony overlords. Two Bungie should have learned from the black armory incident not to gate-keep stuff players paid for. And finally, They shouldn't disable any of the gear and supers so that the casual and novice to-season players could have a fighting chance agist the hardcore die-hard veterans.

Contest mode has been and will always be bad. It doesnt make the races more competitive, only makes the casual player base wait longer to play. If it was competitive then they wouldn’t handicap everyone. Raid races used to be one of the only legitimate competitions in the game. In an actual competition those who trained and prepare win. Now, not only does the same crowd win them anyways, but the larger player base has to wait to play. This all happened because a raid lair was beaten embarrassingly fast. If you want contest mode to be the only valid race for worlds first then fine. But at the bare minimum it should be optional when it releases

1 ReplyI agree with the sentiment about streamers. They are just people who enjoy the game they play and are entitled to their own opinion on it. If people didn’t agree with them, they wouldn’t have the platform that they do. People need to stop acting like they’re the literal devil and realize that they are just trying to make a living and stating their opinions, just like we do on here.

Well, why NOT have a contest for the dungeons? The top 1% get maybe 2 activities per year to actually be tested by the game. With dungeons, it's now 4. It honestly seems like an addition bungie should have made a long time ago. The contest experience didn't feel hollow or anything like that this time around. It felt like a genuine challenge for teams of good players to improve themselves. I don't see how it really harms any other players to wait 4-5 hours for the race to end. Especially when those "casuals" are people who have things to do outside the game. Isn't 5-6 pm a better start time than 12-1 pm for these individuals anyway?

1 ReplyWhatever. The game has been lost for awhile now, no matter who is in charge... I do not care. I hate the whole raid shenanigans too! Whatever Bungie needs to do to feel good about themselves and their product; let it be. I am so very tired of supporting all bungies' mismanagement and false starts while Destiny withers and dies.

Toxic developer = Toxic community. That is 100% fact because when a developer works with their community, you don't see any forum like this. The problem is right in front of your nose and you are trying to ignore it, by doing what you tried to say others were doing, passing the buck onto the community. Sorry, not sorry, this business called these fake people that flip on a drop of a dim for views "your community leaders". When the -blam!- in 10 years has any of these "community leaders" that are supposed to support the game and the community ever included the community in anything other than trying to get gamers to buy this business product as if they were selling cars??? Hate, you are damn right, these people helped Pete destroy a once great studio because they only care about their wallets, and they were ready to walk, playing their BS game as usual, but flipped on a dime as usual. What! Contest mode, Ooh, suckers. Whoops, I mean more views. Get real! Edit: You want to know what real streamers are, people who actually care about the product and the community that they include the community in just about everything? Go look up Age Of Empires. Those streamers are what you call real people, unlike destiny streamser that are always trying to sell you something.

As a player at very much the lower end of the scale and who has relied heavily on friends to get stuff done prior. Current Destiny "feels" out of reach. After 10 years of playing the game it feels like climbing a mountain again. Just a personal view and is why I no longer engage with the game. Before anyone posts, use fireteam, join a clan , ask on here. It isn't a case of players to play the game with but more it feels like that is more of a requirement than just booking a week end night to run the raid or GM NF etc.

15 RepliesNo one thought it was a good idea. The streamers are getting desperate

9 RepliesThe timer ruined it for me. Don’t mind a harder difficulty but enrage timers? Really?!

13 RepliesFor me I don’t agree with contest mode at all cause I honestly don’t want to wait for content to be over for a more causal and enjoyable time then having to have the pressure of being worlds first to complete it Cause to me I think “great I have to wait to play the game cause someone else wanted to be known as worlds first” personally i couldn’t give a dam about who wins or loses, I just want to play the game i enjoy

4 RepliesEven with Contest off, how is anyone supposed to solo this?
-
2 RepliesWhy would you wait 2-3 days to run it? They clearly stated you could play is off contest mode as soon as it’s beaten by someone. It’s open rn
-
7 RepliesSo, “you’re not going to sit there and let people use your post for their agenda”. Really, exactly how do you intend to stop anyone from stating their opinion on a public forum? A forum, I might add, in which you stated your own opinion. See the irony yet?
-
The important question is “Did Esoterikk solo it yet?l🤔🤣
-
2 RepliesStandard mode is open anyway now that should be a fun run. Let the hardcore have a couple hours of challenge like no big deal.
-
1 ReplyWith all due respect, boohoo and cry some more. Play the normal mode if you can’t hang. Thats why normal mode is available.

6 RepliesEdited by Roach: 10/12/2024 4:36:07 AMI paid for the Dungeon same as the streamers, I should be able to play what level I want the day it is released. Otherwise Bungie, say that you are prioritising people who make money from the game over me and let me make my decision to purchase based on that. There is ZERO reason for this outside of making sure that the pointless Worlds First title goes to one of their shills for all their hard earned PR work. Contest mode is shutting out the majority because of pandering to the favoured minority and creating two tiers of customers. Same as Dual Destiny, where they hyped exotic class items without saying they were hidden behind an extremely raid mechanic heavy mission. The games population is nose diving so Bungie do what they always do, more of what got them there.

1 ReplyIt literally is the streamers fault

1 ReplyEdited by Killapete232: 10/11/2024 9:55:59 PMPure trash for contest mode. Why even make builds if you are going to disable everything in the game. Make 2 modes one for the contest mode and another mode so we can just play the damn game. The fact I have to go on Reddit to find a list of everything deactivated is a joke. Please make your own list prior to release so we can better prepare for this type of thing. At this point Diablo 4 has been more enjoyable no cap. Sad but true. I just want to play the game and not have to juggle through ever damn exotic and figure out what is not banned so I can play and enjoy my game is it really that much to ask for. I don't care for ice breaker day 1 I'll get it eventually, have every red border up to the current season, every exotic and catalyst, just let players choose whether they want to do contest mode so the rest of us can enjoy the damn game Sheeeeeesh.

I went in by myself just for sh*ts and giggles. I lasted about 5 seconds and got burned down by a horde of invisible sh*t with shrapnel cannons.

2 RepliesLooks like it is going to be salvation version 2.0 where it has been tuned for streamers to stream on day one and everyone else will give it a go or two and leave it due to it being an overly complicated complete lack of enjoyment..... Just one guys take though. Well maybe more than one guy based on player engagement.
-
2 Repliesseparate contest mode for world first is just hollow for everything and everybody. Basically they are saying "your not good enough! So you have to wait." It is a crappy way to run a game, no one cares who is world first a year from now or even a month from now. Are you really going to say I was on the world first team 40 years form now? I have not heard a single person anywhere say "I was world first" not even when WOW was 12 million players did people brag about it. It does nothing for the game in general or for all players.

Edited by xbroggiex: 10/12/2024 12:02:28 PMThis dungeon is somehow worse than Ghosts and how do you go from Warlords Ruin which was actually fun to this absolute travesty? Reused assets and locations. Cool anomaly thing? Just a -blam!- desktop wall paper background you don't go to it at all. weapons? All terrible archetypes or perks. Armor is a disaster as well they should fire whoever is designing these terrible armor sets. Mechanics are the worst with the timed augment buffs which didn't need to be timed at all, they just put it there to be an annoyance. Also for Solo juggling all those different augments will actually be cancer. The devs that made this should be fired with how jank and poorly designed it is. At this rate game won't make it to Apollo. Contest mode isn't even designed to be fun its designed to be annoying because its meant for streamers and content creators rather than actually something that benefits the game. You'll see people sometimes mentioning things like "the game is only hard for two days a year" or w/e but I guarantee you if you put contest available at all times with no rewards no-one would play it. Its not about the difficulty genuinely being enjoyable its just for bragging rights and being WATCHABLE which when designed through that lens will not be designed in a way that is actually balanced or enjoyable.

1 ReplyContest as an option is fine. Contest as a time gate, is dumb. Simple as.
