No craftable weapons and Pinnacle grind

Craftable weapons was the thing that brought me back to Destiny 2. It's a nice to have a system to get your favourite rolls and weapons and even change them back if they buff / nerf some of them. With its removal on this episode and the reintroduction of the pinnacle farm, I just lost interest on the game. The pinnacle farm removal between seasons was so well received, doesn't make sense to introduce it back. Bungie isn't listening to the player community, and it's these small things that makes me lose hope on the future. What's your opinion on these topics? Do you miss crafting season weapons? Do you miss the pinnacle farm?

I understand the reasoning for removing crafting from the seasons (in some ways I even agree with it), but it's just my luck that this is the first season in a while where I'm actually interested in the seasonal weapons available and not just being excited for the reprised ones and I cant craft them. I dont even know if they're gonna be focusable since I dont see a pop up at eido, maybe it's coming later since it's just week one but idk. Crafting was a safe haven for someone with horrible rng (me), plus I was able to play around with more perk combos too, I had a lot of fun doing that. I'm hoping for a middle ground at the least (like multi perks, attunement or maybe even reworking crafting all together) because the seasonal activities are here for a limited time and once they're gone getting a specific weapon from the activity is near impossible. And its onslaught this time, I like onslaught but it's an hour long activity per run for a 50 wave. I'm not spending an hour for this, Into the light had the attunement making it not feel as bad but now everything drops wherever. So you spend and hour to not get the weapon to drop, you then grab the engrams to the vendor (or focus if that's available) and still not get the weapon/a good roll. Feels bad

  • Totally agree that the decisions made this season were totally tone deaf. Removing weapon crafting from the seasonal weapons. Saying something along the lines of, "We heard your feedback about loving Onslaught, so we double-downed on it." I liked Onslaught, emphasis on liked, past tense. No amount of new paint is gonna impress me. It's still Onslaught. I'd play it if I could get weapon patterns out of it.

This games likely dead, the team has clearly switched to lazy development mode, limited actual content, padded heavily by rng.

    • They're grasping at straws. The new game director has no fresh ideas. His vision of D2 is just to roll back to previous systems that only worked in the past because the game was new enough that people were willing to grind endlessly for good loot, since it felt like we were building a vault full of great stuff we could use for years to come. At this point nobody believes this game is going to continue to be relevant because the playerbase doesn't have confidence that Bungie knows what they're doing at this point because they've been flailing for years. For example, just look at the number system above your character's head in game. It was pointless to begin with because Bungie scaled it in the stupidest way possible... The ladder makes no sense. Premade three man activities shouldn't exist before level 9, and six man activities shouldn't exist before 10. Then they made it where you couldn't even see the requirements until you reach that level. As a result, people don't engage in the system. Personally, I'm ignoring that system and eventually I'll be running around with a big #1 on top of my head even though I have all the best stuff. I've also noticed that "11s" tend to be piss poor players when I see them in playlists. Obviously the majority of them rely on other people to carry them to that level, much like Aztecross. Don't even get me started on a commendation system that destroyed the ability to just stay in matchmaking and go from activity to activity. Instead your faced with an extra couple of minutes between activities staring at a commendation screen that people only interact with for 5 commendations a week. I know some people believe Bungie is full of intelligent people because they write code, but it's obvious that they aren't. Some of the most boring and least capable people I know focused on a career in writing programs merely because they envisioned a life of solitude where they wouldn't be bothered.

      • Yes…think not having crafting was a big mistake. I mean, it still takes several runs on red bars to make a weapon craftable….how is this bad? No one wanted the pinnacle grind. Not sure where that came from. The content in this release was anemic. It’s not because we could power consume everything at once. The story was just lackluster. The dungeon is ok…..I’m not sure why I’m surprised. The game is dying….there’s really not other games like this out there. It seems like they are sucking the fun out of the game as well. Anytime a corporate giant like Sony acquires, it’s all about profit and loss. They will decimate the Bungie team even more if they don’t make their numbers. I don’t want to be a defeatist…..but the new season launch, the new dungeon, ….this isn’t going to do it!

When they announced the return of the pinnacle grind, those defending it said that power doesn't matter with the team leader boost. Well, a standard nightfall is now 2005 power and I expect it will become 2025 as they already said +10 per episode - no team leader boost for that, grind or become too weak to run a standard nightfall.

Bungie only makes decisions that benefit them, never the players. That is pretty clear by now.

          • I personally am not a fan of crafting at all, I feel like the addition to some of the perks make weapons way better than they were meant to be.

          • Yes... I also think that craftable weapons for farming are part of the season.. I have no idea why Bungie thinks "if we no longer make them craftable but only farmable - players will come back/play more/longer" so brain dead. I only played the season activities for red borders, now I wont play them anymore (for what? hoping for an RNG drop? - while I have 532x Rose without a god roll) NTY. Its much more likely that many players will play even less now (the 0 content quests this season also contribute to this) (And they want even more money for that?) what is that for a JOKE. I wish I hadnt bought the annual pass... I definitely wont buy the next DLC. With this season, Bungie has shown how you can trust them (after a 10-year plan)... This is what D2 2025 will look like... Final SCAM

            • It’s not that Bungie isn’t listening to customer’s feedback. It’s that they’re focused on bringing the franchise out of this -45% hole they’re in. You have to keep in mind that this studio is far in the red, blew all the profits they’ve made from Destiny on stupid projects no one is interested in and classic cars, and have laid off a huge portion of their talented employees. We all know these decisions weren’t made by dev trying to make the game fun and more attractive. These decisions came from the suits in upper management to artificially improve player play-time, engagement, and concurrent player population for the bean-counters and stock holders. I’m sure the suits told the dev team they need to improve these numbers and with the limited resources and talent on staff - this was the best they could do to appease them.

I think most people, including Bungie, need to realize how good a system that has an end in sight for getting loot. When we grind, it's always at the mercy of RNG. Why would Bungie get rid of a system that actually had people play for a guaranteed reason and loot that they want. Why is there no straight forward way to get what we want. I think that looking at a piece of gear to see if it's perfect shouldn't be the main point of ANY game. I think that being able to do something a set amount of times or collecting something a set amount of times should be the main way we receive our power level AND loot. If they wanted to make crafting into something that engaged the players longer, they could have made it so that it takes longer to get the patterns while the RNG drops were enough to hold us over until we do. And then RNG would be considered a shortcut to getting the roles and stats we want rather than the main way we get things. This includes with pinnacle cap. We should be able to choose which slot gets upgrades with some sort of currency we get for completing pinnacle activities and encounters. Go to a vendor and choose said slot. RNG makes people feel like they're wasting their time. That's the main issue I have with the game. I'm not fighting for anything but the chance to get something I need or want rather than directly grinding for it. Whether it's a long journey to get it or short, I don't care. As long as there's an end in sight that I can curate with what limited time I have to grind, I would accept it with open arms. A lot of MMOs have this and Destiny is one of the only games that DOESNT have this for some reason

                • Tbh, i think the main issue was the mindset they created when they rolled out the enhanced perks. It made to so that crafted weapons were just straight-up better than non-crafted weapons. That mindset for over a year and a half lead to a refocusing on getting crafted weapons above all else. They should bring them back, but with reduced drop rate. So that they’re a chase for the season, and can serve as true bad-luck protection

                • 1) Pinnacle shows some form of progression (however empty you feel that progression is) and whether or not someone is an active/current player. This has nothing to do with a players value in an activity or how good they are but can be an indicator as to whether or not that player knows current game trends (good/bad weapon choices, rotations, etc) Some players like to feel they are making progress and no pinnacle grind has really no way to measure ANY progress. 2) Crafting (by using red borders for PATTERNS) broke the looting part of the looter/shooter and COMPLETELY devalues loot after pattern acquisition. EVERYTHING is then just a material. The game showers loot on you so the last few seasons I had received all my red borders just by random engrams and activity drops before I even needed to focus them… which means I played some good activities (like Echoes Battlegrounds) even less. Probably only ran Core 3-5 times total for the episode. Crafting should either… a) only offer some perks, which would be poorly received by the community… or… b) patterns should go away and we should build our godroll by farming perks off of drops. Both keep the value of random drops but b is the better choice by far and I think/hope that is where they are going with more crafting changes coming later.

                  • Doing them at the same time might have been a little much for some people to handle. Pinnacle power is basically supposed to rise passively but if you don't have as much interest in the content then its gotta be rough.

                  • In "Destiny 2: The Final Shape," I am not merely a player; I am the pinnacle reward. My greatness defines the game, not vice versa. Every triumph is a testament to my inherent supremacy, where I am not just the player but the ultimate achievement. I am the game's climax, the very essence of victory.

                  • Every weapon should be craftable, but only with perks that you’ve had already drop for that weapon. Move crafting away from the relic and put it into collections so it is not just a PNG gallery. Would also fix vault space issues a lot of the collectors have.
