Personally i am a gunfight kind of player, i never really run ability spam heavy builds since i dont enjoy it.
But lately it feels like i am fighting two grenades, a smoke, a child of the old gods, and god knows what else every time i engage someone, and i really dont enjoy it to be honest.
I get that there are more ability focused builds that are really fun to play and some off meta stuff as well that relies on synergies and weird loadouts, but i never really got onboard with that due to lack of experience and knowledge.
So how about you guys, you enjoy the current pvp meta in terms of abilities? Or do you feel like it could stand to be toned down a bit, or even adjusted up a bit?

I just hope after bungie realises that the prism hunter nerfs won’t change a thing in this new episode that they decide to hit them with a second round of nerfs in 2025

Edited by Ghostfire239: 10/6/2024 8:19:14 PMI don’t really care too much. They’ve always been apart of the game. I also think people make it seem like there is way more ability spam than there actually is. I wish things could go back to how they were during the Forsaken/Shadowkeep PvP era. It was actually fun back then.

1 ReplyI feel on reflection we need more ability spam!!! Lots more !!
-
2 RepliesI'm not really a PvP player but the other day had to play a few matches for the tommy catalyst. And i did not see ability spam at all. Yes there was a few but nothing game breaking. Maybe some of you take PvP a bit too far? I mean it's not an EA tournament. 🤔

3 RepliesI think PvP on PC needs to go away or they need to nerf the reticle friction to controllers. They are so broken and the XIM us on MnK users is through the roof. I am hoping at the 1 month mark when people Ring 1 Sub goes away we have less cheating issues.

2 RepliesI think it's too much, but NOT BY MUCH. Only minor changes are needed.

5 RepliesAbilities are fine… space magic in a space magic game is to be expected….

Considering how much slower my abilities are in the crucible compared to the rest of the game they feel like trash in the crucible compared to PVE use. I’m not normally a PvPer but my abilities recharging at 30% speed compared to normal doesn’t feel fun to me. Maybe it’s because I have spiky armour that’s hard into a few stats so I notice the nerfs more but I don’t see how you call the crucible “spammy” unless you come from CoD that doesn’t have abilities so you don’t understand why a melee is considered more powerful than a gun…..
-
1 ReplyThis kind of question is so loaded… people at the super high end think abilities are everywhere when they really aren’t (outside of Hunter dodge spam). People at the low end don’t know how to use abilities well. For all the ability talk… I don’t die to abilities very much other than supers. Loaded up a match last night and don’t think I sides to an ability once, and all my kills were using my bow or sidearm or melee cleanup.
-
Using abilities is kind of a large part of Destiny's identity, so trying to remove them or greatly reduce them in pvp, is basically trying to change the whole identity of the game to fit other FPS on the market. Besides there are already modes which focuse on gunplay by reducing ability recharge.

I think ability spam is a good thing in this game considering it's a game about space magic, however the recent ability spam have been extremely strong and very annoying . Titan wall spam was extremely annoying but it was nerfed and the game was good again, then came prismatic clones and smokes being spammed every ten seconds, warlocks electric sliding every single gun fight and amplified titans always having a diamond lance (which will only get worse). But idk that's just my opinion on ability spam.

5 RepliesIt's really not too bad, just tweak storms edge a bit- less verticle hit cone bubble and no more kills through walls. Yes I main hunter- tweaking it just a bit will bring the other supers into fruition
-
6 RepliesI think abilities are in a good place right now with the exception of prismatic hunters. They just stacked them with generally faster cool downs than any other class.
-
3 RepliesI don’t touch D2 Crucible, so I really have no dog in the race anymore. That said, I’m still hoping for a miracle from the PvP Strike Team for you masochists still trudging around in the playlist. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

1 ReplyBeen too much since beyond light, 30th anniversary was peak pvp
-
2 RepliesIt's Destiny, so I think having pvp be guns only is stupid. There are a hundred COD clones out there and only one Destiny. I think it's the height of stupidity to expect pvp in Destiny to restrict abilities.
-
Sometimes its worse than it should be due to lower gameplay quality. Its amazing how everything usually synergizes when you see what its like when it works as intended too. If you get the chance to see it. Whoever's job it is to do the synergizations must be pissed every time they turn the sbmm on. I don't blame Bungie though, and I especially don't blame the hardcore rebel alliance they simply have to have within the studio that has to hide and speak in hushed tones.

Edited by Olórin: 10/5/2024 7:53:45 PMNot really that bothered overall since I kinda just adapt to the spam and no longer initiate fights since I'd most likely be either running into a Shadow Clone, Smoke or Solar Scatter Grenades. I just wish a lot of things had decent counters or not having one class being too jam packed full of utilities and bloated kit - it becomes the staple for PvP experience. It gets boring seeing the same shyte but it's bearable, 10th Anniversary had a good balance I feel.

13 RepliesThe best crucible has been in a long time was the original checkmate iteration. Earned special & way less ability spam, actually created a skill ceiling & more tactical ability & special usage. What we have now is just catering to smoothbrains

1 ReplyI think ability uptime is the best its been. I get into plenty of gun fights. I think its so ridiculous for people to make these wild claims that abilities are getting more kills than guns. I still get in more gun fights that have zero abilities involved whatsoever than engagements with abilities involved. People rarely actually die to abilities. Am i annoyed by some of them? Sure, but that's ok. Im way more annoyed by certain special weapons then i am by any abilities. Even then im not asking for anyone to remove those from the game. Ive never even asked for less special ammo. Maybe they should just make hardware permanent.

4 RepliesI think titans need a significant buff in pvp. I play one, and it's soooo bad. My bubble titan build wrecked in pvp before this season. Now it's a joke. Sunbreaker takes an eternity to get it's super, as well. We're not even gonna talk about the stasis subclass, that hurts your team more than it benefits them. Strand is -blam!-, as well. The arc subclass is probably the most well balanced subclass. Prismatic is also disappointing. We also have no good exotics for supporting our abilities. Armamentariun is the only reliably good titan exotic. And bungie would find a way to nerf that if they could. I'm just so tired of seeing storms edge in pvp. That's literally all you see anymore. I played iron banner the other week and played against a team of six of those -blam!-. I was playing bubble, so you already know how that -blam!- went. I'd like to get in on the ability spam, but instead, I get a melee ability that doesn't kill in one hit at shotgun range. Shoulder charge is a high-risk ability in today's pvp meta. It needs a buff bad. Never understood why we don't have an exotic for thermite grenades either. They just scream that you should use them on a titan. Our barricade animation takes forever. Scorch isn't lethal, either. Never could figure out why voltshot is tied to a reload. It makes so many weapons useless in pvp. There is so much wrong with pvp right now. Too many to list. And a majority of them are with titans. Special ammo should be more abundant as well. If you haven't sniped in forever in pvp, don't try it. You will suck at it and you will not get enough ammo to practice. It's also really stupid that shotgunners have their ammo drop at their feet, but if I'm using a sniper, I have to run out into the open to get the -blam!- brick. Why can't you just get a round of special to reserves automatically when you get a kill? That would make my voltshot useful on special weapons. Special crates should drop 2 rounds, not one. And bring back some of the old d1 maps. D2's maps suck. I miss when first light was a trials map. The maps in D2 are so terrible. And bring back interchangeable optics. I wish I could change the sights on some of these weapons. The guns are the only thing fun about this game, but bungie just refuses to let us have fun with them. Makes you feel like a vasectomy patient with erectile dysfunction in a strip club. It sucks. This game is not what it used to be. We kept all of our special ammo on death in d1, and nobody complained about that. They started this stupid special ammo economy change during the late days of rise of iron and have been on the warpath since. I just miss when this game was fun, bro.

I don't really care because Destiny PvP is a joke, a funny one at that. 1, No dedicated servers and it's 2024 that the game is stuck with their outdated P2P and the entire time blaming the player base because of how cheap they are. 2, The devs literally do not play the game, PvP or PvE. I would love to see to see them play PvP because it would be -blam!- comical. Hell, I'll even pay to see that. 3, There is no actual PvP team, because the PvP team was fired. Not that it really matters because of #2 4, The security was fired I'm sure that helped. 5, Nerfing every single thing in the game, and some items multiple times. And now going back to Destiny 1 flawed logic of nerfing entire categories because that is how to balance a PvP game mode, right, right guys, that is how balancing works? Whoops, my bad, when you balance a PvP game mode you only look at what's used the most and nerf it. Never, ever buff anything to compete. 6, Paid caries are a wealthy business. 7, Account recoveries are a wealthy business. 8, Cheating across the board has gotten a lot worse because of the new light system. 9, PvP has ruined the PvE aspect of the game, not becase of PvP gamers, but becase of this business not knowing what they are doing. PvP is holding PvE back from ever going anywhere, and you liars for years pushed that "PvP and PvE Balancing was separated" 🤣 10, Oh, let's not forget the stealth nerfs over the years that this business claims "they have never done". They said it so it must be true, right? 11, This developer has screwed up IB so badly that not even IB is worth playing anymore. Especially if you are only playing for the loot. Hey, let's change this and that, and Ooh, let's remove this and that. Stop! put that back and move this over there, and place that over here, and Umm, Um, um...... let's pretend we know what were are doing, these gamers are blind. What a great PvP experience Destiny has 👍

Special ammo dumps are a bigger issue
-
Yeah it’s just infuriating. It rewards low skill players by allowing them to compete outside their skill level. It’s infuriating to play against 2 swarms and 3 smokes and a clone every fight. It feels borderline mandatory to have high healing from a rift or weavewalk to simply play the game without having to run and wait for half a minute just for the abilities to stop and your health to regen.
-
I like abilities in general, we are playing a space magic game after all, but there are three I feel need to be toned down. Swarms, smokes, and clones. The smoke both blinding and slowing is a little too much for me, and swarms are basically you either run for 30 meters, or you go to half health and get scorched. Clones aren’t as bad, but they can still get really annoying if someone dodges right next to you while you’re low. I’m not a game dev, and I don’t have any idea how to fix these, but this is just my 2 cents. Keep other abilities though, I don’t think we need to nerf throwing knives or anything.
